An exploratory study of government ministerial libraries in Maseru, Lesotho.

Keta, Mary Manthati. January 2004 (has links)
The present study explores the status of government ministerial libraries in Maseru, Lesotho, with the purpose of discovering the factors which affect the growth and development of these libraries. To provide a wider context within which to view this study literature dealing with government libraries was examined. Nineteen government ministerial libraries were chosen as a population for the study. However, only fourteen ministerial libraries were eventually surveyed. Twenty library workers were interviewed using a structured questionnaire as the data collection instrument. The collected information was analysed manually. The study established that there are very few laws and regulations that govern the existence of libraries in Lesotho. The responses showed that even though there are government ministerial policies they do not accommodate libraries. The majority of these libraries do not get support from government for library material and therefore they depend only on donations which are not adequate, most of the time, for the needs of the users. The responses also revealed that the majority of government libraries do not function in the way that fully-fledged libraries do. The library workers revealed that the educational standards of library workers in Lesotho are not satisfactory at all. Among the staff of government libraries that were interviewed only five had a university degree, two had a university diploma and two had university certificates. It was found that some of the library services had not performed well becasue of one-man libraries and a lack of qualified staff The responses from the interviews established that government ministerial libraries in Lesotho are static; they do not grow and develop largely out of a lack of recognition, a lack of interest and a lack of upport from the government. Recommendations are based on the findings of the study with the hope that they will provide a basis for properly equipped and adequately staffed library services in all ministries in future. / Thesis (M.I.S.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2004.

HUMP? : A comparative survey of opinions about Från ord till handling – på väg mot en nationell bibli- oteksstrategi [From Words to Action- towards a national library strategy]

Eriksen, Veronika January 2019 (has links)
In this two year master’s thesis, I examine the views of library and information science (LIS) students at Uppsala University and The Swedish School of Library and Information Science at the University of Borås. As a method for collecting their thoughts on the matter I chose to create a Webb-based survey. By having them answer a 35-question survey I gathered their opinions on the new Swedish library strategy. As a part of the process of writing the new national library strategy the authors have asked the concerned parties to give their opinions on the first draft of the strategy Från ord till handling – på väg mot en nationell biblioteksstrategi [From Words to Action- towards a national library strategy]. In addition to the survey taken by the students I have compiled and analyzed the 82 views sent to the National Library of Sweden by the library community. This master’s thesis has been done to examine if the university students of library and information science is of the same opinion as the rest of the profession concerning topics such as education, children’s learning and minority languages. The results are presented in figures and quotes and then discussed with the help of a theory of professions. By applying this theory it becomes clear that the students of LIS are introduced to the views and norms of the profession early on during their education.

Vom 9. Jahrhundert ins digitale Zeitalter - Älteste mittelalterliche Handschrift der SLUB online

Haffner, Thomas 07 March 2008 (has links)

510 Jahre Ratsschulbibliothek Zwickau (1498–2008)

Mahnke, Lutz 07 March 2008 (has links)

Issues and challenges facing school libraries: a case study of selected primary schools in Gauteng Province, South Africa

Paton-Ash, Margaret Sanderson January 2012 (has links)
Fewer than 8% of schools in South Africa have functioning libraries. There is no national policy for school libraries which compels School Governing Bodies and principals to have a library in their schools. This qualitative study, based on grounded theory, investigated ten primary schools in Gauteng that had libraries, or were in the process of setting up a library with the intention of providing a rich description of the issues and challenges facing these schools. The schools were chosen on the basis of location (Soweto and Johannesburg), and the school fees that were paid in a continuum from low/no fee paying schools to the fee paying ex Model-C schools. The resourcing of the school library, the operation of the school library and the role of the library were examined. The findings highlight the lack of a national policy, of school library posts, the theft of computers as a result of the lack of security, as well as the lack of understanding by teachers of the role the library in teaching and learning. Furthermore, there appears to be a disjuncture between the trends evident in the international literature on school libraries and what is actually happening in the primary school libraries in my study. Most significantly low/no fee paying schools with libraries were the exception and those that did have libraries were as a result of the enthusiasm and efforts of one or two individuals with the backing of the principal. Ex-Model C schools had the advantage in terms of the provision and staffing of school libraries as they had the funds to support them and, in some cases, a school librarian, provided that the principal supported the idea of a school library. In all the schools, the belief in the importance of the library regarding reading and literacy was the main motivating factor in establishing or maintaining the school library. A growing public awareness of the value of school libraries was an encouraging trend that emerged from my study.

Bücher suchen Paten: Von einigen Mühen und schönen Erfolgen

Bürger, Thomas, Kühnemann, Bärbel 02 June 2008 (has links)

Kühnemann, Bärbel, Golsch, Michael 02 June 2008 (has links)
