Tylö : Sauna Lighting

<p>Tylö AB is the leading manufactor of sauna cabins in Europe, but there is a lack</p><p>of a sauna lightning produced by Tylö. The project of developing a new sauna</p><p>lightning series was assigned two students at the developmentengineering</p><p>program at Halmstad University. The main problem with lightning in the sauna</p><p>is the heat and security aspect. The selection fell on LED technology as the</p><p>lightning source, thanks to its small measures and low heat emission.</p><p>The work of constructing of a lightning armature which the capability of cooling</p><p>down the LED lightning was carried out during autumn ‐06 and spring ‐07. The</p><p>project resulted in a brand new concept of sauna lightning, the usage of LED</p><p>technology in the sauna have opened up new possibilities for designed sauna</p><p>lightning. The lightning concept replaces an ordinary wooden panel in the</p><p>sealing, the only visible part is the glass cover. By using a smart deign combined</p><p>with extrusion of aluminum a profile only 12 millimeters thick that`s suitable</p><p>for mounting in the sauna sealing was constructed. The construction</p><p>guarantees an efficient cooling and sufficient lightning.</p><p>The project resulted in a patented and design patented product. The project</p><p>has further more resulted in a employment at Tylö AB for the project members.</p><p>The purpose with the employment is to take the product from a concept state</p><p>to a market introduction in end of 2007.</p>

Adaptation of Lighting Styles from Traditional Paintings to Computer Generated Scenes

Image making using Computer Graphics has become extremely popular. Great advances in computer graphics have led to an increasing number of people using this medium. But Computer Graphics on its own is not art unless art principles are applied to it, as is the case with any other art medium. Studying art principles used in traditional paintings is an invaluable way of learning how to create images that tell a story, look believable, evoke appropriate emotions, and remain aesthetically alluring too. With that motivation in mind, a visual analysis of paintings of John Register, Jules Breton and Chris Peters was conducted to better understand their styles. Two paintings by each of the three artists were then selected for an in depth study and based on those, computer generated renderings were produced. Inspired by each artist's style, digital scenes were modeled, lit and rendered using 3D authoring tools. The final rendered images exhibit the lighting style unique to each of the three artists.

Creating effective computer generated scene lighting using traditional film lighting techniques

This thesis explores the process of translating traditional cinematic lighting into the digital realm by understanding distinctly different lighting styles of three Directors of Photography. These Directors of Photography are Conrad Hall, Gregg Toland, and Zhao Fei. Digital lighting studies representative of the work of each Director of Photography were created. In these studies, the lighting in scenes done by each Director of Photography was digitally mimicked. As a result, the lighting studies provided valuable insight into the approaches of these masters of light. An animation was created to display a scene lit in the three lighting styles of each Director of Photography. The process, learned from the lighting studies, of creating three different lighting styles representative of each Director of Photography was applied to the final animation. The analysis and lighting studies of each Directors' of Photography style expedited the process of lighting the final animation in each different style. As a result, a more complex environment was effectively lit in three different cinematic styles with animated light.

Creating computer generated scene lighting in the style of Edward Hopper

The goal of this thesis is to study the lighting styles used in three selected Edward Hopper paintings: Morning Sun, Summer Evening, and Night Windows and to create an original, three-dimensional scene lit in a similar style. For a general understanding of the reference paintings, visual analyses were conducted before studying the lighting styles depicted in them. During the process of conducting this lighting study, the lighting styles in the three reference paintings were closely examined and digitally reproduced. The artistic inspiration gained from these three paintings and the lessons learned from the reproduction process are integrated into the creation of the original work which serves as the final project of this thesis. Consequently, the final project displays the lighting style represented in those of the reference paintings, refined by this researcherâ s own style. This study defines an approach to develop the digital lighting that can dramatically enhance the moods in realistic scenes referenced by lighting in the three Hopperâ s paintings.

Advancing lighting for aquaria

In this thesis I will explore the creation of a professionally advanced aquatic lighting fixture that will offer more flexibility than is currently available in the professional aquatic lighting field. I will investigate how the flexible fixture can enhance aquatic microenvironments through application of a design approach. In this investigation I will focus on the visual composition of light within the aquarium, while providing physiologically supportive light to the living inhabitants of the microenvironment. In order to explore this process I will create a LED aquatic lighting unit that shares many of the properties of a traditional theatrical lighting grid; specifically: flexible positioning, focusability of light sources, color control, and intensity control. I will design and build this flexible unit, and demonstrate its capabilities on a minimum of three contrasting aquatic microenvironments. The project will be displayed in an exhibit within the Winship Theatre building, where the human viewing environment will be designed to provide a soothing light and sound enhanced experience. / text

This creative project concerns itself with the design and installation of a unique light control system for the contemporary theatre. The project begins with a study of light control devices previously used in the theatre and a study of requirements for a light control system utilizing recent electronic advances. Most recently, a new solid-state device, the Triac, has become available. This crevice allows for considerable power consumption in a rather confined or limited space and is fully capable of being remote controlled. The completed dimming units are located adjacent to the light instruments on the battens. Each light is is capable of being individually controlled permitting maximum flexibility. The control panel is basically a three scene pre-set model possessing four submasters, master, and line options for all control circuits in all three scenes. The patch panel feature low power signal distribution rather than high power line voltages. Installation of the new system is a vital element of the project and has been realized at Anderson College where the author teaches.
