Novostavba stavebního objektu / Newly-built of a building

The diploma thesis processes the documentation of project which displays a building of school facility with an area for kindergarten and center of leisure time. Construction is situated in village Jesenice, part of Zdimerice, in district Prague – west. Resolving land is located within growing residential region. The new building is designed as a standalone with two aboveground floors, covered with flat vegetative rooftop with extensive greenery. The entrance into the object is mutual for both organizations. At the first aboveground floor is positioned the kindergarten with two sections each for twelve children. The second aboveground floor is designed with the purpose for center of leisure time activities for children and young adults. It includes art studio, ceramic workshop, ballet hall, musical or computer classrooms with the overall capacity of forty-three children. The space is lay out in accordance with conditions of barrier-free use.

Modeling Micro-Cracked, Salem Limestone during Monotonic Impact in Abaqus Explicit

A finite element model is developed in Abaqus Explicit to determine the resistance of Salem Limestone with three levels of initial micro-cracking to high-speed, monotonic impact. A comprehensive description of the model development is included, and the model is validated by comparing simulation impact results to known penetration depths during a mesh refinement study. The uniaxial compression simulations were performed to correlate the HJC damage parameter to the uniaxial compressive strengths from mechanical test data. Then, the HJC damage parameter is compared to the unconfined compression strengths to correlate the micro-crack damage levels. Subsequently, the model was used to determine the correlation of the penetration depths at the finite damage levels. In conclusion, the model described in the paper can adequately predict the penetration depths of the projectiles for a range of micro-crack damage levels. The micro-cracking did/did not affect the penetration depth.

Microfacies Analysis, Sedimentary Petrology, and Reservoir Characterization of the Sinbad Limestone Based Upon Surface Exposures in the San Rafael Swell, Utah

The Lower Triassic Sinbad Limestone Member of the Moenkopi Formation has produced minor amounts of oil in the Grassy Trail Creek field near Green River, Utah and is present below much of central Utah including the recently discovered Covenant field. Superb outcrops of this thin (15 m), mixed carbonate-silicilastic unit in the San Rafael Swell permit detailed analysis of its vertical and lateral reservoir heterogeneity. Vertically, the Sinbad Limestone comprises three facies associations: (A) a basal storm-dominated, well-circulated skeletal-oolitic-peloidal limestone association, (B) a storm-dominated, poorly-circulated hummocky cross-stratified siliciclastic/peloidal association, and (C) a capping peritidal cross-bedded oolitic dolograinstone association. Eleven microfacies are present in 14 measured sections within the Sinbad Limestone. Lateral variation is most pronounced in the upper part of the basal limestone where storm-deposited beds pinch out over a lateral distance of one kilometer. Otherwise, individual beds and microfacies display a large degree of lateral homogeneity and regional persistence. Diagenesis is strongly controlled by microfacies. Diagenetic elements include marine fibrous calcite cements, micritized grains, compaction, dissolution and neomorphism of aragonite grains, meteoric cements, pressure dissolution, and dolomitization. The paragenetic sequence progresses from marine to meteoric to burial. Marine and meteoric cements occlude much of the depositional porosity. Hydrocarbon-lined interparticle and separate vug (largely molds) pores (1-5%) characterize the skeletal-oolitic limestones with permeability ranging from 0-100 md. Low permeability/porosity characterizes the middle silicilastic unit. The best reservoir qualities (permeability 400 md) occur in portions of the dolomitized oolitic grainstones that form the upper 2 to 3 m of the Sinbad Limestone. Fracture analysis of the studied area indicates a strong NW-SE trend. Fracture spacing is associated with lithology. Fracturing of limestone possibly displays a higher dependence upon bed thickness and microfacies type. The degree of dolomitization controls and increases fracture spacing while siltstones display more closely spaced fractures. The basal limestone unit is an oil storage unit, medial siltstones are flow baffles/barriers, and the dolostone caprock is an oil flow unit. If good connectivity through fractures can be obtained between the dolostone and limestone units, the Sinbad Limestone has potential to serve as a reservoir. This study will not only aid in future Sinbad exploration, but will serve as a model for parasequence-scale intervals in thicker mixed carbonate-siliciclastic successions.

The Early Pennsylvanian (Bashkirian/Morrowan) Round Valley Limestone of northeastern Utah was deposited on the Wyoming shelf, a slowly subsiding depositional surface located between the Eagle and Oquirrh basins. The 311-foot-thick Round Valley Limestone displays a distinct cyclicity formed by stacked, meter-scale parasequences, comprised of a limited suite of open- to restricted-marine limestones with minor interbeds of siltstone and shale. Open-marine deposits are characterized by mudstone and heterozoan wackestone-packstone microfacies (MF1-4) and comprise the lower portions of parasequences. Rocks of these microfacies were deposited during maximum high-order transgression of the shelf. As sediment filled the limited accommodation, the shelf became restricted, leading to deposition of mollusk-peloid dominated wackestone microfacies (MF6). Grainstones (MF5) microfacies are volumetrically limited in the Round Valley and represent deposition on isolated sand shoals that populated the shallow shelf. The complete Round Valley section at Split Mountain in Dinosaur National Monument is comprised of 5 intermediate-order sequences and 48 higher-order parasquences. Twenty-one of the shallowing-upward cycles are bounded by exposure surfaces as indicated by the occurrence of rhizoliths, glaebules, autobreccia and alveolar structures. Four of these that also indicate a significant drop in sea level (abnormal subaerial exposure surfaces and surfaces with erosional relief) constitute candidate sequence boundaries. The high percentage of cycles capped by exposure surfaces indicates that deposition of the Round Valley took place intermittently and that the Wyoming shelf was exposed during a significant portion of the Bashkirian epoch. Intermittency of deposition is confirmed by comparing the thickness and sequence architecture of the Round Valley Limestone with coeval strata in the eastern Oquirrh basin (Bridal Veil Limestone). The Bridal Veil Limestone is four times thicker and contains 24 cycles not represented on the Wyoming shelf.

This study will deal with a new type of concrete that focuses on cement particles. As you alreadyknow today, concrete is one of the most used materials in the world, and the negative is that it has acontributing factor to pollution with as much as 5% of global carbon dioxide pollution.To reduce this, a new environmentally friendly concrete was produced that reduces pollution anddamage to the environment.The type of concrete we have studied has a higher compressive strength than the reference mix.Many tests were carried out to produce concrete that is environmentally friendly with highcompressive strength.The study will highlight the actual effect of the cement particles when large particles that perform afilling effect are not as important compared to the small particles that enter the hydration process andreplace with large particles of limestone (>0.036 mm). Through the method (Normal Limestone in anew abode), concrete has gained greater compressive strength than the reference mix.With the results achieved in this study, the construction sector is given the opportunity to useconcrete with higher strength and be more environmentally friendly in the future.

Quarry Stories - Architecture through Narrative Exploration

This book, Quarry Stories - Architecture through Narrative Exploration, collects the process and proposals of our thesis, responding to the question: How can critical post-humanist philosophy, using stories as a tool, enhance our understanding of architecture and activate narratives in limestone quarries? We view the limestone quarries on Gotland as an example of humans’ relationship with nature: we take what we want and leave. Although significant for the industry, the quarries are troublesome from an ecological perspective. Rather than debating their existence or non-existence, we aim to explore their potential - what imaginaries can we envision for these sites?  We use the word ‘story’ to let narratives shape architecture, partially by writing stories for each quarry but also by including different narrative perspectives. We were curious to examine what architecture our entanglement with non-human actors can generate. We believe that stories can help us challenge our imagination and explore architecture from an alternative point of view.  While the outcome is three proposals for three different quarries on Gotland, we view the project as an exercise in exploring architecture through practical and artistic research. Here, narrative activation and critical post-humanist philosophy serve as an approach to architecture.

<p> This study reports on karren forms on limestone dip slopes, which were recently exposed by deforestation on the Quatsino Formation and observable relationships of the karren features of a specific sl~pe are represented as a detailed map. Also, many relationships of gravitomorphic runnel characteristics are analyzed for significance. Runnel types being considered are Hortonian, decantation and composite forms. Solution runnel width, depth and width/depth ratio are studied in association with length. These relationships determine whether the runnel types conform to a theoretical model. Typical aeas·ares of the karren in this area were also recorded. Composite forms are the most abundant because Hortonian and decantation runnels amalgamate beyond about 3m to form composites.
