Limits of Schema Mappings

Kolaitis, Phokion, Pichler, Reinhard, Sallinger, Emanuel, Savenkov, Vadim 02 October 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Schema mappings have been extensively studied in the context of data exchange and data integration, where they have turned out to be the right level of abstraction for formalizing data interoperability tasks. Up to now and for the most part, schema mappings have been studied as static objects, in the sense that each time the focus has been on a single schema mapping of interest or, in the case of composition, on a pair of schema mappings of interest. In this paper, we adopt a dynamic viewpoint and embark on a study of sequences of schema mappings and of the limiting behavior of such sequences. To this effect, we first introduce a natural notion of distance on sets of finite target instances that expresses how "Close" two sets of target instances are as regards the certain answers of conjunctive queries on these sets. Using this notion of distance, we investigate pointwise limits and uniform limits of sequences of schema mappings, as well as the companion notions of pointwise Cauchy and uniformly Cauchy sequences of schema mappings. We obtain a number of results about the limits of sequences of GAV schema mappings and the limits of sequences of LAV schema mappings that reveal striking differences between these two classes of schema mappings. We also consider the completion of the metric space of sets of target instances and obtain concrete representations of limits of sequences of schema mappings in terms of generalized schema mappings, that is, schema mappings with infinite target instances as solutions to (finite) source instances.

The theme of violence against women is widely debated by feminist movements and is marked by a number of challenges in the implementation of policies that consider the diversity of women. The activism of prostitute women, in the Brazilian and international scene, from the demands for the recognition of sexual work and the expansion in the conquest of rights, made precise distinctions between the practice of prostitution and sexual violence. However, the criminal treatment offered to sex workers still fluctuates, categorically, sometimes portraying them as victims, sometimes as villains. In addition to the binarisms that hide complex and multifaceted realities, in this work I try to get closer to the looks of five girls from the program of the "Center for Prevention in STD / AIDS" in the municipality of Franca and their perspectives on sexual violence, rape And the intermediation of state institutions. Considering that the practice of prostitution and violence should not be confused, I intend to analyze the negotiations and corporal and affective limits established in the organization of sexual work in France and to establish relations with what they claim and recognize as sexual violence. The dialogue with the learnings, the very notions and strategies of confrontation of the program girls before the operation of the repressive forces of the state and its narratives on the crime of rape composes the objective to think experiences, resistances and the power of agency of women, Alive and intense by the subversion and plurality of their knowledge. / 2015/03018-3

A search for a light charged Higgs Boson decaying to cs at √s = 7 TeV

Martyniuk, Alex January 2011 (has links)
A search for a light charged Higgs boson decaying into cs is presented using data recorded in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.3 pb⁻¹ collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC between June and November 2010. The search is based on the semi-leptonic tt channel searching for the process t → H⁺b where H⁺ → cs⁻. The invariant mass distribution of the dijet system consistent with the hadronic decay of a W⁺ is used to search for a secondary bump from hadronic H⁺ decays. With no observation of the charged Higgs signal, 95% confidence level upper limits on the decay branching ratio of top quarks to charged Higgs bosons are set as a function of the charged Higgs boson mass.

Role metaforického zobrazení v rámci vztahu člověka k transcendentnu / The role of metaphoric representation in the relation of man to transcendence

Stehlíková, Hana January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with the topic of a relation of the human being to transcendence through the concept of metaphor and metaphorical representation. It begins with the comparison of two philosophical systems, namely the ones of Immanuel Kant and Friedrich Nietzsche, whose conceptions are in thesis connected through the question of the limits of human understanding and the relation between the process of thinking and language. The thesis deals with those questions from the point of view of the philosophical concept of the metaphor. This concept, its history and implications are the main topics for the last two chapters. The conclusion will offer two opposite positions, symbolism and idealism. We can find those positions retrospectively in the mentioned works of Kant and Nietzsche thanks to the theory of Jacques Derrida in the final part of the thesis, but we also come to the assumption that their opposition will remain undecided.

How to reach a better consideration of physical limits in energy policies design?

Hajjar, Joseph January 2014 (has links)
The energy system is today facing a major double issue: the shrinking of easily accessible and cheap fossil resources on the upstream side, and climate change on the downstream side. Energy policies must integrate this double physical constraint, as well as other physical limits, and have a long time and a global horizon, in order to anticipate and avoid a future energy and climate crisis that could be dramatic to society. However, politics tend to focus on other aspects (satisfying immediate social desires for instance). This report hence discusses options available to allow for a better consideration of physical constraints in energy policies design. As they strongly rely on energy scenarios, it appears that energy policy makers need a more transparent and didactic frame for scenario design and analysis. That is why The Shift Project has been developing an original, transparent and pedagogical energy scenario modeling tool, Rogeaulito, which is intended to highlight physical constraints. By developing narratives (quantified stories) and organizing and animating workshops with policy makers, using Rogeaulito, it is possible to convey messages and knowledge about the energy system and issues, and improve the policy making process. Nevertheless, policy makers remain subject to socio-political influences and to self-interest concerns, which can prevent them from making socially optimal choices on the long term. Therefore, the civil society as a whole must be included in a continuous and coherent debate to improve the common understanding of energy issues, of the (physical, cultural and psychological) obstacles to solving them and of concrete consequences of the possible choices. It will then be possible to give a democratic, legitimate and collaborative orientation to long term energy policies. At the end, it appears that a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, involving physics, environmental science, economics, technology, sociology, political science and psychology is required to finally produce energy policies appropriate in order to face the issues mentioned above.
