Los misterios de Madrid de Antonio Muñoz Molina : parodia y novela por entregas.

Nierojewski-Vélez, Elina. January 1997 (has links)
The Spanish contemporary writer Antonio Munoz Molina is generally considered to be a representative of Postmodernism, a name given to a movement in contemporary cultural forms that displays certain common characteristics. The purpose of this study is to approach one of Munoz Molina's most recent novels, Los misterios de Madrid, from the point of view of Postmodernist theories in order to determine which, if any, of the essential characteristics of the literary movement are present in the book. In order to do so, we have turned to the valuable studies of Fredric Jameson, "Postmodernism, or The Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism" and The Seeds of Time, as well as those of Linda Hutcheon, A Poetics of Postmodernism: History, Theory, Fiction and A Theory of Parody: The Teachings of Twentieth Century Art Forms. Through the study of the characteristics of Postmodernism that are present in Los misterios de Madrid and, more specifically, through the study of one of the most important characteristics to this thesis, that of postmodern parody, we arrive at the conclusion that, although the novel may indeed be considered representative of the Postmodern period, it is by no means exclusively so.
