A história da saúde do Rio Grande do Sul ainda revela-se lacunar, ponto motivador para o desenvolvimento deste estudo, que tem como hipótese que a literatura, como representação ficcional, pode propor e interpretar processos de saúde e seus cuidados, o que, no caso de Verissimo, contribuiria para preencher pontos obscuros ou não tocados pelos historiadores da área. O objetivo principal é o de verificar como aspectos da temática da Saúde e seus cuidados são representados na trilogia verissimiana. Para isso, busca-se também: levantar as temáticas de saúde na trilogia; verificar a narrativa historiográfica atual sobre as práticas de saúde no Brasil e no Rio Grande do Sul; determinar como a narrativa ficcional verissimiana compõe a temática da saúde na organização da diegese; recorrer às teorias sobre história e ficção ricoeurianas a fim de poder confrontar as narrativas historiográfica e ficcional sobre saúde no Rio Grande do Sul com vistas a comprovar as hipóteses do estudo. A partir do estudo das Confissões de Santo Agostinho e da Poética de Aristóteles, desenvolve a teoria da tríplice mímese, que envolve três momentos: o da mímese I, ou pré-figuração, diz respeito às vivências do sujeito no mundo, no entendimento do modo de agir humano; o da mímese II, ou configuração, consiste na imitação da ação pelo discurso; o de mímese III, ou refiguração, na intersecção do mundo do texto e do leitor pela leitura, em que se volta à mímese I através de mímese II. Para ele, somente a partir desses processos há a possibilidade de reconciliação do homem com as aporias do tempo. The history of the state of Rio Grande do Sul is still partially unexplored, a motivating feature to the study hereby presented and to its hypothesis. Its motto is that literature, as form of fictional representation, is able to propose and interpret processes of health condition and its care, an aspect which in Verissimo’s literary work contributes to fulfill unclear or unexploited aspects in the field. The central goal is to verify in which ways aspects regarding health condition and its care are represented in the Verissimian trilogy. In order to do so, this research aims at covering the four following aspects: eliciting the health condition topics in the trilogy, verifying the contemporary historiographic narrative about health condition practices in Brazil, as well as in Rio Grande do Sul, determining in what ways the Verissimian fictional narrative makes up the health condition in the diegesis organization, and resorting to the Ricoeurian theories on history and fiction, in order to be able to confront the historiographic and fictional narratives on health condition in Rio Grande do Sul, so as to ascertain the hypotheses proposed to this study. Paul Ricoeur in its work Time and Narrative analyses the connections of the human being with time and its form of expression, the most striking narrative genre: the fictional narrative and the historiographic narrative. Ranging from Confessions by Saint Agostine and Poetics by Aristotle, the triple mimesis theory is encompasses three moments: the mimesis I or pre-figuration, which regards the human being’s experiences in the world in its comprehension of the ways of acting, the mimesis II, or configuration, which consists of the imitation of the action by the speech, and the mimesis III, or reconfiguration, in the intersection of the text and reader’s world through reading, which turns to mimesis I by means of mimesis II. According to Ricoeur, it is only through such processes that a possibility of reconciliation between man and time is possible. As such, the intersection between fictional and historiographic narrative finds its venue in the reading movement, in such way the history nurtures fiction and fiction nurtures history. Based upon the study of the triple mimesis at The Time and the Wind, it is possible to conclude that this literary work takes a revealing role to the reader in regards to health condition practices in Rio Grande do Sul. Such conclusion is derived from the fact the fictional work referred to encompasses a timely gathering which follows along the origin and development of its society, not only in the social, political-historical aspects but also in the history of health conditions. That outcome is based upon the assumption that the trilogy plot represents the public history of health conditions through the caretaker characters, as well as through the private history in the narratives of the patient characters and in the representations of their diseases, which refigure the health condition practices in their time, evolution and emancipation in the mind of the reader.
