"You'll never walk alone" The use of brand equity frameworks to explore the team identification of the 'satellite supporter'.

Globalisation and advances in communications technology have greatly expanded the potential marketplace for professional teams, especially for internationally popular sports. Lewis (2001) claimed that fans are now more likely to support a team based less on a shared geographic connection than on personal reasons. As Ben-Porat (2000) claimed, for these fans a foreign-based team is like “an 'overseas sweetheart,' far away but close to the heart” (p. 344). These 'satellite supporters,' (Kerr 2008, in press), or 'satellite fans' (Kerr & Gladden 2008) represent significant revenue, especially for those team brands that seek international expansion. In addition, an individual's decision to purchase the sports product is largely dependent upon their level of identification with a chosen team. Team identification, or “the extent to which a fan feels psychologically connected” (Wann, Melnick, Russell & Pease 2001, p. 3) to a particular team, is critical to the financial viability of a sports organisation. However, despite the increased attention paid to team identification, the reasons why satellite supporters identify with a foreign-based team have been largely unexplored. To address this need this study asks: What are the most important antecedents in the identification of satellite supporters with their chosen sports team? Recent research also suggests that a relationship exists between team identification and brand equity (Carlson, Quazi & Muthaly 2002; Kerr 2008; Underwood, Bond & Baer 2001). Therefore, the study also asks: Can a conceptual brand equity framework predict the determinants of team identification of satellite supporters? The thesis adopts a case study approach using mixed methods; a strategy that can provide “a fuller understanding of the sports fan” (Jones 1997b). Online questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were administered to members of fan organisations dedicated to the English Premier League's Liverpool F.C. Liverpool F.C. was an appropriate subject for the case study as it has a global fan base, a rich history, and is arguably one of the world's premier team brands. This thesis proposes a number of important antecedents in the satellite supporter's identification with a foreign-based team. These are: media coverage; style of play; the presence of particular player(s); team success; history of success; participation in the highest division; stadium; history of ethical behaviour; and the broadcast quality of games. Furthermore, a conceptual brand equity framework is shown to shed light on the possible determinants of their team identification. This study also confirms that social identity theory is an appropriate perspective to examine foreign fandom; satellite supporters might derive positive psychological benefits from their fandom; and the existence of a brand community dedicated to a professional sports organisation.

Enjeux publics et privés du réinvestissement des espaces historiques centraux, une étude comparée de Gênes, Valparaiso et Liverpool

Gênes, Valparaiso et Liverpool sont trois villes-ports dont les acteurs publics ont choisi comme stratégie de sortie de crise le réinvestissement des espaces historiques centraux, urbains et portuaires, par une politique de patrimonialisation et d'interventions urbaines. A partir d'une approche comparative sont étudiées les régulations urbaines en jeu dans ces transformations, du point de vue des configurations particulières d'acteurs et des modalités de légitimation qui les accompagnent, dont témoignent les modalités d'exercice des événements urbains. Ce réinvestissement urbanistique et patrimonial, par des interventions publiques et privés, modifie également les usages et pratiques, produisant dans les trois cas un phénomène de gentrification, entendu comme phénomène résidentiel mais aussi commercial et touristique. Toutefois ces transformations ne sont pas consensuelles et se traduisent par des conflits sur les principes même de l'aménagement et les usagers des espaces, et en creux redessinent une spatialité de la ville, via la conception du patrimoine mise en avant. En effet, les régulations urbaines mobilisent des modes de légitimation qui reposent sur des conceptions du patrimoine et des espaces urbains, étudiées comme figures de ville, reconstructions visant à donner une caractérisation des imaginaires impliqués dans les transformations urbaines. À une autre échelle s'opère une légitimation par le recours à des modèles internationaux d'aménagement, permettant de définir les multiples échelles de référence des régulations urbaines et des imaginaires mobilisés dans les transformations des espaces historiques centraux.

<p>During the 19th centaury Liverpool was an industrial city of great magnitude owing to the well-established communication and infrastructure in the area. During the 1950’s the industry decrease swiftly - and although Liverpool as a city gain interest as a result of the sensation of the Merseybeat and The Beatles - the reduction continued through the 70’s and during the 80’s the people of Liverpool suffered from great unemployment. Today Liverpool is a post-industrial city with a growing experience economy that mainly benefits from The Beatles tourism and the Merseybeat-era. The focus of these studies is the experience economy in Liverpool as a result of globalization and production in the late modernity. The study is bases on “partaking” observations and interviews with some of those involved with the experience economy.</p>

Vilka skillnader upplever vårdpersonal och närstående mellan den vanliga palliativa vården och en vård med styrda vårdplaner? : En systematisk litteraturstudie

Syftet med föreliggande studie var att ta reda på vårdpersonal och närståendes upplevelser vad gäller vanlig palliativ vård och strukturerade vårdplaner så som LCP/ICP. Studien genomfördes som en systematisk litteraturstudie där underlaget inhämtades genom att med specifika sökord söka i Högskolan Dalarnas databas ELIN@ efter vetenskapliga artiklar. En artikel har även sökts från en annan referenslista där artikelnamnet använts som sökord. Vid sökningarna har sökorden använts var för sig och i kombination med varandra varvid 13 stycken artiklar valdes ut till resultatet. Resultatet visade att det fanns brister i den ordinarie palliativa vården vad det gäller kommunikation, symtomlindring och anhörigvård. Tidsbrist och stress var också utmärkande i den ordinarie palliativa vården. Vad gäller patienter som vårdats under LCP/ICP så upplevde närstående och vårdpersonal att både kommunikation och symtomkontroll var avsevärt bättre än i den ordinarie palliativa vården. Tiden för det goda samtalet fanns i betydligt större utsträckning vid vård under LCP/ICP. En orsak var att sjuksköterskan istället för att lägga ner tid på dokumentationen hade möjlighet att vara där för patienten och dess närstående. De närstående hade också möjlighet att vara delaktiga i vården på grund av att de hade tillgång till dokumentationen kring patienten.

GEOTHERMOBAROMETRIC ANALYSIS AND TECTONIC EVOLUTION OF THE LIVERPOOL LAND ECLOGITES, EAST GREENLAND CALEDONIDES

Mineral chemistry and thermobarometry of mafic pods in the Liverpool Land Eclogite Terrane (LLET) provide insight into potential relationships with regional high-pressure (HP) and ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) terranes such as the North East Greenland Eclogite Province (NEGEP), the Western Gneiss Region (WGR), and HP granulites in the East Greenland Caledonides at Payer Land. Grt-cpx thermometry and jadeite barometry performed on garnet and omphacite cores in a sequence of retrogressed eclogites give minimum and average P-T values across six samples for eclogite at 18.4 ± 3.7 kbar at 764 ± 156 °C. Granulite facies conditions based on early retrograde Opx-Plag symplectites, garnet rim compositions, and relict omphacite grains give P-T values at 12.7 ± 0.6 kbar at 860 ± 10 °C, based on grt-cpx thermometry and the opx-grt-pl-qtz equilibra. Late retrograde amphibolite facies conditions, marked by matrix plagioclase and biotite and orthopyroxene symplectite replacement by hornblende symplectites, give mean P-T values of 6.8 ± 0.4 kbar at 740 ± 150 °C, based on grt-cpx thermometry and the grt-hbl-plag-qtz equilibra. Thermometers and barometers yield a qualitative P-T path from lower eclogite facies pressures through the granulite facies via hot isothermal and static decompression, preserving symplectite textures, to amphibolite facies conditions via isobaric cooling. The path is consistent with low-pressure WGR eclogites and suggests affinities between the LLET and Baltica.

The Anglo-Confederate mercantile house of Fraser, Trenholm and Company played an important, even vital role in the Confederate war effort. Recognizing its inferiority to the North in terms of manufacturing facilities, capital, and foreign trade, the Southern Confederacy relied upon British commercial interests and an ideology of free trade to overcome this disadvantage. Fraser, Trenholm and Company was a driving force in the formulation of this unique alliance between the Confederate government and private British business interests. The wartime experience of Fraser, Trenholm and Company illustrates the fundamental flaws in Confederate financial policy. The blockade running trade, the outward manifestation of the Anglo-Confederate alliance, although successful, could not be controlled by the Confederacy, and the free trade ideology prevented reform of the trade until it was too late. / Department of History

This master thesis covers the palliative care in a hospice and a hospital. A lot of seriously ill patients suffering from incurable diagnoses die in hospitals. Therefore the nursing staff come into a close contact with patients near the end of their life.The nurses are in a close contact with the patients. The nurses sense emotions and suffering of dying patients. They sense also feelings of patients in case when improper cure and treatment are applied. Taking care of dying patients is stressing situation. The care covers not only the patient himself but it also includes the communication with the patients´ family and later the bereaved families.The hospital environment is primarily targeted to acute care. The palliative care is at the periphery. In The Czech Republic the palliative care is emerging in hospices mainly. That is the reason why the hospices may serve as a source of inspiration for improvements of the palliative care in other medical institutions.The first part of the theory section describes the main principles of a palliative care. The next part deals with mutual relations between the dying patient, the disease, between the nurse and the family and relatives of the dying patient. The last part deals with the ethical problems in the dying patients nursing, describes the environment where the palliative care is provided and researches the palliative care standards. There are three main goals of the work. The first goal is to compare the level of palliative care standards in different types of medical institutions. The second goal is to evaluate the possibility of providing of the palliative care in the different types of the medical institutions. The third goal is to suggest possibility of the hospital palliative care improvements according to results of the surveys.In the research part an analysis of written documents was performed. The quantitaive part of the research used an anonymous survey. We created two surveys to perform the research. The first survey was targeted to the nursing management and their view of the palliative care provided in the different types of medical institutions.The survey was distributed to 238 relevant medical institutions by electronic means. It consists 6 questions. 3 of them were closed questions, remaining 3 were semiclosed. The survey was opened by 78 respondents of different institutions. 26 respondents took part and finished the survey. According to answers of 26 nursing managers 18 of them agreed to cooperate further and participate in more detailed survey targeted on the nurses who work directly with patients and provide the palliative care. The second survey consisted of 26 questions and 13 of them were closed and 13 semiclosed. The survey was finished by 150 respondents from different medical institutions: hospitals, long term care hospitals and hospices. The data of the both surveys were statistically evaluated.We established 4 hypothesis. H1: The presence of palliative standard depends on the type of medical institution. The hypothesis is valid. H2: The palliative care standards are focused mainly on the basic physical needs providing and less to the spiritual and psycho-social needs providing. The hypothesis was not sufficiently proven. H3: The possibility to provide palliative care by nursing staff depends on the type of medical institution. The hypothesis is valid. H4: From the point of view of nursing staff the palliative care providing depends on the environmental conditions. The answers of the nursing staff take us to the conclusion that the environment influences providing the palliative care. The results of the research shows, that the palliative standards in the medical institutions exist. The standards are focused mainly on providing basic physical needs. There is an evidence that the quality palliative care can be provided in case when the conditions are adequate.
