Etudes structurales et fonctionnelles de la nitrate réductase A par spectroscopie RPE à haute résolution / Stuctural and functional studies of nitrate reductase A probe by high resolution EPR spectroscopyRendon, Julia 13 December 2016 (has links)
The aim of my work is to elucidate at the molecular level the structure and the function of enzymes involved in energy conversion processes in living organisms. In particular, it is focused on the understanding of two important steps found in many of these systems, namely (i) their interaction with membrane quinones acting as electron/proton shuttles and (ii) the catalytic mechanism at the molybdenum active site. The nitrate reductase A (NarGHI) from the bacterium Escherichia coli is used as a model for these studies. This membrane-bound complex reduces nitrate into nitrite during anaerobic respiration and plays therefore an important role in the global nitrogen cycle. The goal of my research is mainly devoted to the identification of the molecular factors tuning the reactivity of this system at the two active sites. For this purpose, I mainly relied on the structural characterization of key paramagnetic intermediates e.g. semiquinone radicals or Mo(V) ion using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy in combination with rédox potentiometry. High resolution pulse EPR methods, especially Hyperfine Sublevel Correlation (HYSCORE) spectroscopy, were used to probe their local environment through the detection of hyperfine (and eventually quadrupole interactions) to nearby magnetic nuclei that are otherwise too weak to be measurable in conventional continuous wave EPR spectroscopy.

Determination of Single Pole Breaker Reclose Time and System Performance Using Real Time SimulationGodavarthi, Venkata Sridivya 19 May 2017 (has links)
This thesis investigates single pole reclosing in series capacitor compensated line. An algorithm is developed to determine the optimal dead time required for single pole reclose of circuit breakers and to reduce the randomness of reclosing time. The algorithm considers conditions of system, fault, voltage zero crossing, arc, and IEEE C37.104-2012 standard de-ionization time. This study also addresses difficulties of single pole reclose operation such as over-voltages at the line, secondary arc extinguishing time, dead time, over-voltages across the series capacitor, and negative sequence current. The system performance is evaluated using a set of metrics based on those operation difficulties. Methods used in the industry such as shunt reactor with the neutral reactor, surge arrester, and MOV are modelled and simulated to capture their effect on the operation difficulties. Comparative analysis is made to rank the effectiveness of each element against difficulties in operating single pole reclosing of circuit breakers.

Vývoj dopingu a jeho zákazu v moderním olympismu / Development of Doping and its prohibition in modern OlympismHorký, Ondřej January 2013 (has links)
Title: Development of doping and its prohibition in modern Olympism. Objectives: The main goal of the thesis is to present issues of doping. Partial goal is to outline the development of the modern Olympic Movement and to identify the principal points in the development of doping ban, which resulted in the current form of the anti-doping movement. Methods: This is a theoretical thesis. The scientific methods of historical research and document analysis were used to achieve the targets. Results: New substances and methods, that can improve athletic performance, are constantly discovered. However in case of excessive use, these substances can harm human body. Therefore it is necessary to guard their abuse. Unfortunately the biggest breakthroughs in doping prohibition came after athlete's deaths (caused by doping). International Olympic Committee played a fundamental role in the process of doping ban. IOC initiated establish of the World Anti-Doping Agency in 1999. WADA currently provides a really efficient fight against doping in sport. Keywords: Doping, prohibited substances, anti-doping policy, Olympic Movement, IOC, WADA.

Distance Protection Aspects of Transmission Lines Equipped with Series Compensation CapacitorsSummers, Clinton Thomas 22 October 1999 (has links)
In order to meet the high demand for power transmission capacity, some power companies have installed series capacitors on power transmission lines. This allows the impedance of the line to be lowered, thus yielding increased transmission capability. The series capacitor makes sense because it's simple and could be installed for 15 to 30% of the cost of installing a new line, and it can provide the benefits of increased system stability, reduced system losses, and better voltage regulation.1
Protective distance relays, which make use of impedance measurements in order to determine the presence and location of faults, are "fooled" by installed series capacitance on the line when the presence or absence of the capacitor in the fault circuit is not known a priori. This is because the capacitance cancels or compensates some of the inductance of the line and therefore the relay may perceive a fault to be in its first zone when the fault is actually in the second or third zone of protection. Similarly, first zone faults can be perceived to be reverse faults! Clearly this can cause some costly operating errors.
The general approach of interest is a method leading to the determination of the values of series L and C of the line at the time of the fault. This is done by analyzing the synchronous and subsynchronous content of the V and I signals seperately which provides adequate information to compute the series L and C of the line. / Master of Science

The subject of this project is a study upon the dynamic performance of surge arresters as a part of the internal lightning protection system for a residential electrical installation. At first, a reference about the actions or the natural phenomena that cause surge overvoltages in low voltage systems is given in detail and is followed by an essential theoretical approach on the lighning phenomenon. Both the causes, the consequences and the conditions in which a lightning occurs are being analysed. Furthermore, the characteristics and the qualifications a Lightning Protection System needs to comply with, are given, according to the Greek Standard ΕΛΟΤ-1197 and the European Standards IEC 62305-2, IEC 61643-12. Along with writing this essay, a simulation model using Simulink-Matlab was produced. The model represents a LV TN-C-S system that distributes power to two households with identical internal electrical installation. The aim of the present study is to indicate the optimal connection of the surge protective devices (SPDs) in the domestic electrical installation in order to prevent the appearance of potentially dangerous overvoltages to the humans or to the household equipment.
