HAMEV and SQRED: Fortran 77 Subroutines for Computing the Eigenvalues of Hamiltonian Matrices Using Van Loanss Square Reduced Method

This paper describes LAPACK-based Fortran 77 subroutines for the reduction of a Hamiltonian matrix to square-reduced form and the approximation of all its eigenvalues using the implicit version of Van Loan's method. The transformation of the Hamilto- nian matrix to a square-reduced Hamiltonian uses only orthogonal symplectic similarity transformations. The eigenvalues can then be determined by applying the Hessenberg QR iteration to a matrix of half the order of the Hamiltonian matrix and taking the square roots of the computed values. Using scaling strategies similar to those suggested for algebraic Riccati equations can in some cases improve the accuracy of the computed eigenvalues. We demonstrate the performance of the subroutines for several examples and show how they can be used to solve some control-theoretic problems.

The purpose of the workshop was to bring together scientists using parallel computing to provide integrated discussions on portability issues, requirements and future devel- opments in implementing parallel software efficiently as well as portable on Clusters of Symmetric Multiprocessorsystems. I hope that the present paper gives the reader some helpful hints for further discussions in this field.

Second Order Sufficient Optimality Conditions for Nonlinear Parabolic Control Problems with State Constraints

In this paper, optimal control problems for semilinear parabolic equations with distributed and boundary controls are considered. Pointwise constraints on the control and on the state are given. Main emphasis is laid on the discussion of second order sufficient optimality conditions. Sufficiency for local optimality is verified under different assumptions imposed on the dimension of the domain and on the smoothness of the given data.

Lipschitz stability of solutions to linear-quadratic parabolic control problems with respect to perturbations

We consider a class of control problems governed by a linear parabolic initial-boundary value problem with linear-quadratic objective and pointwise constraints on the control. The control system contains different types of perturbations. They appear in the linear part of the objective functional, in the right hand side of the equation, in its boundary condition, and in the initial value. Making use of parabolic regularity in the whole scale of $L^p$ the known Lipschitz stability in the $L^2$-norm is improved to the supremum-norm.

The paper is dedicated to the modeling and the simulation of random processes and fields. Using the concept and the theory of weakly correlated functions a consistent representation of sufficiently smooth random processes will be derived. Special applications will be given with respect to the simulation of road surfaces in vehicle dynamics and to the confirmation of theoretical results with respect to the zeros of random polynomials.

On the analytic representation of the correlation function of linear random vibration systems

This paper is devoted to the computation of statistical characteristics of the response of discrete vibration systems with a random external excitation. The excitation can act at multiple points and is modeled by a time-shifted random process and its derivatives up to the second order. Statistical characteristics of the response are given by expansions as to the correlation length of a weakly correlated random process which is used in the excitation model. As the main result analytic expressions of some integrals involved in the expansion terms are derived.

The aim of the thesis was development of an innovative treatment of bone defects. Human multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) play a crucial role in bone healing. Clinical applications of MSC require large amount of cells, which could be obtained by autologous expansion of MSC harvested from bone marrow. As a first step, the standard protocol of MSC expansion based on αMEM medium and fetal bovine serum (FBS) was used. Experiments replacing FBS by pooled human serum (HS) in the culture medium concluded in patenting of a new MSC cultivation protocol (EU 1999250, CR 301141). This one-step cultivation protocol and xenogeneic protein-free cultivation medium is based on CellGro® for Hematopoietic Cells' Medium, HS, human recombinant growth factors, dexamethasone, insulin and ascorbic acid. The preclinical in vitro and in vivo experiments with MSC from both expansion protocols were carried out. Fibrillar polylactic scaffolds were seeded with MSC, cultured, differentiated and implanted in immunodeficient mice (NOD/LtSz-Rag1-). Bone-like mineralized tissue containing vessels was observed. The MSC cultured according to patented method were classified as Advanced-therapy Medicinal Product and has to fulfil the European Medicines Agency regulations to enter the clinical trials. Swedish forest industry is relying on the cut-to-length method for logging and there has always been a constant quest to make it more efficient and sustainable. Reduction of forest soil damage and operator vibration dosages are crucial steps that could facilitate meeting the above stated targets. In this context Skogforsk- The Swedish Forest Research Institute has decided to explore the potential usage of caterpillar tracks on conventional wheeled forwarders. An efficient way to perform this study is to use multi body simulations to evaluate the performance of the tracked forwarder concept over different terrains. This thesis work aims to model and simulate a tracked forwarder in Adams ATV module. As part of the thesis a conventional wheeled forwarder was selected and a track unit was conceptualised to fit it. The concept was modelled and simulate with Adams ATV for various ground conditions. An effort was also made to identify the performance parameters required to improve traction, handling, and ride performance. Based on this some results were selected and studied and inferences were made. The results from the thesis work could provide a guideline on the methodology to be followed and a a deliverable is also a multi-body dynamics model for future design research. / Svensk skogsindustri jobbar efter kortvirkesmetoden för trädavverkning. Det finns en strävan efter att göra denna metod mer effektiv och samtidigt mer ekologiskt hållbar, exempelvis en minskad markpåverkan reduktion av de helkroppsvibrationer som operatören utsätts för. Motivet till detta examensarbete är att utforska möjligheten att ersätta dagens hjulbaserade skogsmaskiner med banddrivna. Det överordnade syftet för examensarbetet är att utveckla en modelleringsmetodik för dynamiska systemsimuleringar. Metoden för detta är att modellera och simulera en banddriven skotare med Adams ATV-modul och att beskriva ett rekommenderat tillvägagångssätt och möjliga resultat. Som en del av arbetet har en traditionell skotare valts och en konceptuell bandenhet har skapats och anpassats för att passa till skogsmaskinen. Konceptet modellerades och simulerades med Adams ATV för olika markunderlag. Ytterligare arbete lades på att identifiera de parametrar som är viktiga för grepp, fordonskontroll och framkomlighet. Baserat på några av resultaten valdes några för en fördjupad studie. Resultatet från examensarbetet kan ge riktlinjer för val av lämplig metodik för denna typ av prestandastudier. En konkret leverabel från projektet är också en dynamisk flerkroppsmodell, som kan utgöra en bas för fortsatta konstruktions- och prestandastudier.
