Investigation of a design performance measurement tool for improving collaborative design during a design processYin, Yuanyuan January 2009 (has links)
With rapid growth of global competition, the design process is becoming more and more complex due largely to cross-functional team collaboration, dynamic design processes, and unpredictable design outcomes. Thus, it is becoming progressively more difficult to support and improve design activities effectively during a design process, especially from a collaboration perspective. Although a great deal of research pays attention to the support and improvement of design collaboration from multi-perspectives, little research attention has been directed at improving collaborative design by a performance measurement approach. In addition, many studies have demonstrated that performance measurement can improve design effectiveness significantly. Therefore, this PhD research focused on investigating ‘How to improve collaborative design via a performance measurement approach?’ A Design Performance Measurement (DPM) tool, which enables design managers and designers to measure and improve design collaboration during a design process, has been developed. The DPM tool can support the design team members in learning from performance measurement and, in turn, drive the design project towards the achievement of strategic objectives, and goes beyond monitoring and controlling them during the project development process. It is, thus, a motivating tool as well as a support tool for the development of product design. The proposed DPM tool has three novel components: • A DPM operation model, which integrates a hierarchical design team structure with a multi-feedback interaction performance measurement approach to support DPM operation in a design project team. • A DPM matrix, which enables collaborative design performance to be measured during a design process. • A DPM weighting application model to improve flexibility of the DPM tool by integrating DPM with the design project’s strategies, stage-based design objectives, and design staff’s job focuses and responsibilities. This tool has been positively evaluated through two industry case studies and a software-based simulation.

Obstacles to innovation management in SMEs : A case study of Libo AirportWEI, YI, XU, XIANGYUN January 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines innovation, innovation management and the innovation process in SMEs (small and medium enterprises). There are many academic researchers who work on innovation management but there are very few studies on SME innovation management. The aim of this master thesis is to evaluate of the characteristics and obstacles for implementing innovation management in SMEs. The study is limited to the airport industry as an example of a customer service intensive company. By using case study and survey methods, the thesis analysis new trends of airport business and the problems of implementing innovation management in such customer service intensive company. Data was primarily collected through interviews, observations and questionnaires. Secondary data was collected from literary sources in order to provide context and background. The results display the characteristics of SMEs innovation management, which in this case for instance concern limited resources, short-term strategy and flexible administration management. The results also point out the obstacles on SMEs innovation management implementation, for example informal process model, low involvement of employees, limited budgets, slow upgraded technology and low degree of communications.

Implementering av delat ledarskap inom en kommunorganisationAnna, Gustafsson January 2014 (has links)
This report addresses the management innovation and how shared leadership is a form of it. The report is a compilation of what shared leadership means and how two municipal organizations works with shared leadership. The two minicipal organizations are Strängnäs and Vällingby. One municipality (Strängnäs) is meanwhile this report produced during insertion of shared leadership. The other (Vällingby) has about two years experience of working with this form of leadership. The main question for this work is why does a local organization implements shared leadership? Other questions are how does shared leadership work? How does one avoid confusion and ambiguity for employees? What advantages and disadvantages are there with shared leadership? And what can be done better ? Through well- selected literature in the form of books, articles, reports, etc. a picture of how shared leadership is part of a management innovation has been created. To complement this, there have been interviews with unit managers who are working or will be working with shared leadership. The reason for writing this report is that in today's situation there is not much information about shared leadership, much less on shared leadership in the local organizations. The results of this work show that there are many different forms of shared leadership, that there are several different ways to implement shared leadership in a local organization. A form does not need to fit all businesses, but it is important to adapt the leadership mold after their own business. We have listed a number of pros and cons of shared leadership the opportunities and risks there might be and how best to way implement shared leadership in a organization.

L'innovation managériale de l'invention à la diffusion. : Analyse du processus d’établissement d’une innovation managériale à partir du cas de la méthode 5 steps / Management innovation from invention to diffusion : Analysis of the establishment process of management innovation illustrated from the case of 5 steps methodCanet, Emilie 06 December 2012 (has links)
We will focus on a critical phase on managerial innovations lifecycle, sprawling between invention and diffusion. We aim at understanding the processes at work between the moment an innovation is invented within an organization and the moment it is considered established and validated by numerous organizations. Relying on a case study and a participative observation approach, we will put forward an exploratory analysis of this phase allowing to highlight its characteristics in various lights: evolution of content and rhetoric, evolution dynamics and design system
