This work seeks to understand the process of producing a collective cultural effervescence in Recife and Olinda through the creative actualizations of maracatu drummers, percussive groups and the Manguebeat Movement of the 1990s. However, to gain such an understanding, we must seek to analyze the question through individual experiences. There existed, and still existvery diverse identities being lived throughout the cities of Recife and Olinda, and within this context many collaborated to create a modern Pernambucan identity. Nonetheless, during this period of significant research into the Manguebeat Movement, the responsibility for this success is attributed only to a small circle of bands and youth of the middle class. Many of the spaces and places cited by those involved in this movement shared meaning and significance with many other individuals. Some studies propose that the decade of the 1990s, the period in which Manguebeat occurred, “de-lobotomized the clogged veins of Recife.’They attributed the success of the Maracatu-Nations in this period to this movement, perhaps because of the use of the alfaia drums of Maracatu de Baque Virado by some of these bands and percussive groups. Manguebeat is considered the point of reference for this discussion, given that a bibliography attributed to the movement is responsible for the aspirations of the middle class to participate in popular culture groups, especially the Maracatu-Nations. Discussing this relationship will permit us to understand which roads the traditional Maracatus have taken to arrive where they are today and become one of the cultural symbols most known and promoted in the state of Pernambuco. Knowing that itis a complex and difficult political struggle for marginalized communities to assert power and make these cultural practices accepted in mainstream society, the principal objective is to think about the history of the traditional Maracatu-Nations within the modern process of globalization - where popular culture becomes a local market and then spreads throughout the world. In this sense I hope to discuss the tactics, strategies and existing dynamics within the Maracatus and percussive groups and how they have come to represent Maracatu de Baque Virado.

The influence of the cultural scene known as Manguebit movement in popular culture in the Northeast is the object of this research study, and through research methods in geography, specifically regional and cultural approaches, the subsidy for the construction of the scientific concept of the cultural region of the movement itself.
