No. of bitstreams: 1 Roberta Motta de Oliveira Silva.pdf: 4716767 bytes, checksum: 6f34f75542671777edea9997cd69fff4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-06-10 / The relevant increase in the number of select companies in the garment industry and related activities with the Secretary of the State of Pernambuco in the county of Riacho das Almas, shows the share of the relevant municipality in APL clothing in Pernambuco state. This activity is already established and ingrained in the cities of Caruaru, Santa Cruz do Capibaribe and Toritama. This research aims to review developments and to characterize the production of the garment industry in the county of Riacho das Almas - which is slightly less than 20 km from the city of Caruaru, one of the three major cities of the Garments 'Pole' of the Agreste of Pernambuco, and 162 km from Recife, capital of the state - by examining the consequences of growth and development of this activity, especially in the rural area. Within the perspective of this research is a survey and analysis of the installation of these companies in the Rural Zone, and the consequent transfer of the labor force for rural local garment industry, without the necessary qualifications or expertise, in addition to examining the high rate of informal enterprises and hiding their employees. Another aspect of this research is to identify measures and projects which the government is taking to support the growth and structure of this branch of activity, including providing environmental preservation, since many of these companies are based in the rural municipality.

Strategie francouzských výrobců automobilů na mezinárodních trzích / Strategies of French Car Manufacturers on International Markets

Snížek, Martin January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis aims at comparing strategies of French car manufacturers Renault and PSA Peugeot Citroën on international markets. The first chapter is focused on unveiling the particularities of different markets with paying special attention to distinguishing traditional automotive centres from emerging economies. The second part of the thesis presents Renault and its activities on international markets. Renault's activities are more profoundly studied through analysis of production (geographic distribution and its evolution, methods of entering new markets) and sales. The same structure is applied to the third chapter concerning PSA Peugeot Citroën. The author comes to a conclusion that even though France and Europe remain the main markets for both car makers their importance declines to the benefit of developing countries. Moreover, it was found out that both car manufacturers are entering new markets via cooperation with other car makers.

Zvonaři, kostelní zvony a jejich osudy na území historického Loketska a českého Chebska / Manufacturers of bells, church bells and their destinies in the territory of the historic Loket and Cheb regions

Bělohlávek, Miloš January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with church bells as specific instruments of liturgy and lived faith on the example of today's Karlovy Vary Region, respectively historical regions Loketsko and Chebsko. Part of the text will focus on individual families who were engaged in casting bells. Emphasis is placed on the social and economic status of these families, their social mobility and the level of production in different epochs. These topics are traced from the early Middle Ages to the period of requisitions of bell funds during the world wars. At the same time, the work will attempt the first comprehensive mapping of historical bell collections in today's Karlovy Vary Region and give an explanation of the use of bells in church practice, taking into account the regional specifics of the culture of Egerland. Thanks to the connection to Germany and the important position of Cheb and Loket, there have been many bell-making manufacturers since the Middle Ages. In the early modern period, together with the development of mining activities in the Slavkov Forest and in the Ore Mountains, the prestige of the bell-making craft increased. Therefore, most of the church bells preserved to this day come from this period. Thanks to the parish archives, chronicles and topographies from the turn of the 19th and 20th...

In search of international tort law : civil liability of arms manufacturers for indirect sales to embargoed conflict zones

Simonsz, David January 2007 (has links)
This dissertation seeks to demonstrate the practical possibilities of holding arms companies liable under the common law of torts as a possible instrument in support of the enforcement of public international law and international human rights law. The United Kingdom is used as primary example because its tort law has been widely spread across the world by colonialism, so any case that is successful in the UK may be successful in other common law countries with (relatively) little modification. This increases the relevance of this dissertation. / Thesis (LLM (Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa)) -- University of Pretoria, 2007. / A Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Law University of Pretoria, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Masters of Law (LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa). Labelling Accuracy in Low Nicotine e-cigarette Liquids from a Sampling of US Manufacturers

Jackson, Remonica, Huskey, Mariah, Brown, Stacy D. 01 June 2020 (has links)
Objectives: To assess labelling accuracy for low nicotine concentration e‐cigarette liquids. Methods: Nicotine concentration in twelve e‐liquids, available in 3 and 6 mg/ml strengths, was assayed (5 replicates each) using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Key findings: Average nominal concentrations of nicotine were lower than reported in 23/24 products tested, with 2/12 products labelled 3 mg/ml, and 3/12 of the 6 mg/ml products showing statistically significant differences from controls. Conclusions: Despite the emergence of a global regulatory environment for e‐cigarettes, inaccuracies still exist in nicotine concentration labelling, which may affect user habits and reliability of products used in smoking cessation.

Assessing the Availability of Wood Residues and Residue Markets in Virginia

Alderman, Delton R. Jr. 16 July 1998 (has links)
A statewide mail survey of primary and secondary wood product manufacturers was undertaken to quantify the production and consumption of wood residues in Virginia. Two hundred and sixty-six wood product manufacturers responded to the study and they provided information on the production, consumption, markets, income or disposal costs, and disposal methods of wood residues. Hardwood and pine sawmills produce approximately 66 percent of Virginia's wood residues. Virginia's wood product manufacturers produce three primary residues: chips, bark, and sawdust. These three residues comprised nearly 83 percent of Virginia's total residue production in 1996. Approximately 200,000 tons or 6 percent of Virginia's wood residues appear not to have adequate markets. A second survey was directed to all municipal waste, construction and demolition, and "other" waste facilities in Virginia. The focus of this survey was to quantify the volume of solid wood residues received at the facilities. In addition, the study was conducted to ascertain tipping fees, did the landfill(s) actively market wood residues, were wood residues recycled, were wood residues restricted from being landfilled, and disposal methods for wood residues. Additionally, the survey was conducted to determine the type of waste facility operated, the quantity of all wastes directed to each landfill, and tipping fees. Seventy-five respondents provided information on the total and solid wood waste volumes received at their respective facilities, recycling efforts, and disposal practices. Approximately 689,000 tons of solid wood, or 8 percent of all wastes, was received at Virginia's landfills in 1996. Virginia's waste facilities reported processing or recycling approximately 406,000 tons or 59 percent of the solid wood received in 1996. / Master of Science

Influence of changing patterns of sucrose consumption on industrial users. Response by manufacturers of soft drinks, biscuits, cereals, cakes confectionery, ice-cream, jams, canned products and other sugar-containing foods to the U. K. dietary guidelines that relate to sucrose consumption.

Heasman , Michael Kenneth January 1988 (has links)
Sugar is intrinsically linked with the modern food system. Large sections of the U. K. food industry are dependent on its use and functional qualities. Supplies of sucrose entering the food chain have declined 25% between the 1950's and 1980's and currently stand around 37 kg/person/year. Furthermore, U. K. dietary guidelines over the past 14 years have consistently suggested caution over how much sugar is eaten, especially in manufactured foods. Dietary guidelines such as the NACNE report (1983) recommend average sugar consumption should be no more than 20 kg/person/year. Currently, two-thirds of sugar supplies are bought for use in food and drink manufacture. Continued pressures on sugar consumption and negative consumer attitudes to sugar may be reflected in lost sales of sugar-containing foods. The available information on U. K. sugar consumption is critically assessed. Although the main sources of sugar supply are identified, individual sugar consumption is shown to vary by considerable amounts. The place of sucrose is examined in relation to other sweeteners and why and where sugars and sweeteners are used in food systems. The promotion of "no added sugar" and "sugar free" products is examined since the publication of the NACNE report to the end of 1987. To further test the impact of changing patterns of sugar consumption on food and drink manufacturers a national survey of manufacturers who use sugar was carried out in early 1988. This was an attitudinal postal questionnaire and responses to the issue of sugar, diet and health were analysed. Respondents bought an estimated 650,000 tonnes of sugar in 1986, around 45% of the total industrial market. While the survey aggregate were fully supportive of sucrose, respondents reported that the majority of consumers were worried about sugar being bad for health and were actively cutting down on individual intakes. There were significant differences to the issue of sugar, diet and health dependent on company size, whether a company manufactured for a retailer's own label and if products had already been marketed at a "healthy eating" segment. However, in general, while manufacturers considered consumer attitudes to sugar to be important they had to be put in the context of other factors. So far the impact of changing patterns of sugar consumption is not reflected in the total average industrial purchases of sugar, although substantial "sugar-free" and "sugar-reduced" product niches have been established.
