The purpose of this study Marias återkomst (the Return of Mary) is to examine the phenomena of “Mary’s return” in the Church of Sweden. The research questions revolve around the levels within the church (macro, meso, or individual level) where the figure of Mary has gained in-creased significance and what psychological functions it can fulfil. In total, twelve individuals with connections to the Church of Sweden were interviewed using a narrative interview method. The results show that the phenomena “the Return of Mary” is a mixture of aspects such as re-mained, new, resumed, forgotten, hidden, and longed-for. However, it cannot be confirmed that a paradigm shift has occurred, as no profound changes have taken place at all levels within the church. The higher the level, the more peripheral the figure of Mary becomes. Nevertheless, four Mariological emphases emerged at the individual level: pragmatic, theoretical, relational, and way of life. Psychological needs can be fulfilled by at least four elevations of Marian devotion: who-we-want-to-be, bridge-building, both-and, and leaving-and-embracing. Marian spirituality can thus contribute to an experience of balance and wholeness. / Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka fenomenet ”Marias återkomst” i Svenska kyrkan. Fråge-ställningarna handlar om på vilka nivåer i kyrkan (makro-, meso- eller individnivå) Mariagestal-ten har fått ökad betydelse samt vilka psykologiska funktioner hennes betydelse kan fylla. Sam-manlagt intervjuades tolv personer med svenskkyrklig anknytning utifrån narrativ intervjumetod. Resultatet visar att ”Marias återkomst” är en blandning av sådant som är kvar, nytt, återupptaget, glömt, gömt och efterlängtat. Det går dock inte att bekräfta ett paradigmskifte, eftersom ingen djupgående förändring har skett på samtliga nivåer i kyrkan. Ju högre upp, desto mer perifer blir Mariagestalten. På individnivå framkom fyra mariologiska betoningar: pragmatisk, teoretisk, re-lationell och livsföring. Psykologiska behov besvarades av minst fyra marianska elevationer: människan-vi-vill-vara, brobygge, både-och samt lämna-och-inlemma. Mariansk spiritualitet kan därmed bidra till en upplevelse av balans och helhet.
