近年来,中国内地市场化报纸纷纷开设"报网互动栏目"来常规性吸纳和利用网络用生成内容。本文试图对这一现象作出描述、分析和解释。本研究从新闻常规和新闻内容两个面向,对作为中国"报网互动栏目"范例的《S报》"网"版进行了考察。考察围绕以下问题展开:"报网互动"栏目的新闻常规是什么?它与一般新闻常规有何异同?这些新闻常规是如何形成的,又发挥了怎样的作用?是否帮助"报网互动栏目"突破中国媒体在践行传媒公共性上的局限?为什么会出现这样的情况?以往对用生成内容、新闻常规以及传媒公共性三者关系的研究都主要产生于自由主义传统的社会。本研究将为此提供一个新的参照,其背景是像中国内地这样的非自由主义传统的社会。 / 本研究通过对《S报》"网"版的考察发现,"网"版在吸纳用生成内容时因应出一定的以公共性为导向的新常规,这些常规主要存在于新闻生产的发现、选择、报道以及撤稿等环节。在这些常规的作用下,"报网互动栏目"重视吸纳与公共利益相关、尤其是与监督公权力相关的用生成内容,并在报道中彰显出鲜明的民间立场。但是,《S报》同时保留了既定的对传媒公共性具有破坏作用的新闻常规。这些新闻常规限制了"报网互动栏目"对传媒公共性追求,使其难以突破过往中国媒体在践行传媒公共性上的局限性。 / 中国内地市场化报纸"报网互动栏目"所展示出的局限的公共性是国家、市场、新闻专业主义和互联网技术等多重因素共同作用的结果。其中,国家、市场、新闻专业主义均不同程度地发挥了促进和破坏传媒公共性的双面作用。因此,尽管互联网科技为传媒提供了提升自身公共性的可能性,但这种可能性在特定的权力结构中被消解。 / In recent years, market-driven newspapers in China have increasingly established the "Press-Internet Interaction Section [Baowang Hudong Lanmu]" to regularly incorporate user-generated content. This dissertation tries to describe, analyze, and explain this phenomenon. The study examines the news routine and news content of one exemplary section, "The Net Section" of S-News. The exploration focuses on the following questions: What is the news routine in this "Press-Internet Interaction Section"? Is it different from established newspaper routines? How is it formed? How does it work? Does the news routine promote the publicness of the news content? And why? So far most existing literature on this topic examines cases in societies with liberal traditions of news-making. This study provides a new point of reference in the contexts of societies outside the liberal traditions such as in China. / This study finds that S-News has established several new public-oriented routines to appropriate the user-generated content. Meanwhile, the newspaper also retains some established routines that threaten the publicness of media. These two types of news routines make the news content of "Press-Internet Interaction Section" only show limited publicness as other Chinese media. / The performance of "Press-Internet Interaction Section" is the result of a confluence of factors. The factors include the state, the market, the journalistic professionalism and the Internet. Except the Internet, all three other factors construct and destruct the publicness of media to varying degrees. Trends in media coverage of the issues of the '80s and '90s

This thesis has replicated a content analysis study conducted by G. Ray Funkhouser in the 1960s. This study concurs with the Funkhouser assertion that some prominent issues in the news do not necessarily merit the attention from the media at the times they receive it. The findings in this study appear to also indicate a "sampling bias" in the media, whereby the amount of news coverage deviates in a systematic way from the actual flow of events. Additionally, this study indicates a strong relationship between the amount of media attention an issue receives and whether or not that issue was noted as the most important problem by respondents to the Gallup Poll. / Department of Journalism

Social media enter the stadium : a case study on the political economy of media at the 2010 Winter Olympics

Just prior to the opening of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, a 21-year-old Georgian luger died after his sled left the Whistler Sliding Centre track travelling at 140 kilometres an hour. The following paper uses Critical Discourse Analysis and the Bahktinian notion of intertextuality to examine how Canadian media discursively constructed social media users and their sharing of the images, video, and opinions following the tragedy. The results show traditional media discursively constructed social media as outsiders, separate from the audience, and further argued they need to follow traditional media norms in order to be responsible citizens. In considering this discursive construction within the political economy of traditional media, it is suggested that one tactic employed is the creation of flak, which attempts to discredit what it opposes. Traditional media discourse, sometimes itself the target of flak, here uses flak against social media which are impinging on the political economy of the traditional media. It also examines the anti-science stance taken by many promoters of such products and the appeal that stance holds for targeted consumers. In it an attempt is made to answer the following questions: What is the source of this apparently “antiscience” point of view? How have the media contributed to this type of sentiment? Why do socalled “natural” products hold more appeal to consumers than their synthetic equivalents? Is there a difference between such products? Is the difference real or perceived? Or, is it merely a media construct? Does the popularity of these ideas indicate a growing distrust of science and governments? What effect has the media’s portrayal of science had on peoples’ attitudes to it? 現有的媒體-抗爭互動機制研究,其結論多是主流媒體傾向非法化、瑣碎化社會運動。但針對威權語境中的媒體-抗爭互動現象,這一論點不再適用。本研究通過2009年廣州番禺反建垃圾焚燒廠事件,探究地方媒體與草根環境運動在與政府協商公共議題時,形成何種互動機制。本文以公共性概念為理論起點,以參與式公共性與可視性公共性這兩種模式作為分析工具,來理解媒體與運動的實踐及其互動。 / 本研究使用多種方法考察事件發展過程,同時試圖建構出媒體-運動的互動機制。主要研究材料包括媒體文本、新聞從業者與抗爭居民的口頭和書面陳述。本文用內容分析方法考察媒體如何再現抗爭居民與當地政府的話語鬥爭,以及新聞框架如何發展演變。研究者與20位新聞從業者與抗爭居民進行深度訪談,以瞭解其行動的目的、策略與束縛,並探索雙方如何理解與評價自身、對方與社會語境。 / 本文的主要貢獻,是通過考察威權語境中的媒體-運動的互動實踐現象來豐富原有的公共性概念。研究發現雙方形成了深度互動、平等、共存的關係。首先,媒體的報道使與抗爭相關的公共論述得以生成、發展、充實。多角度的媒體報道涵蓋了環保與民主參與等話題,由此挑戰了官方對抗爭的打壓式論述。其次,在運動的架構過程中,抗爭居民創造出媒介互動策略,具體表現為抗爭者認識到傳統媒體記者所受的束縛,並與其合作突破這種束縛。他們同時也使用新媒體平台直接動員公眾展開集體行動。最後,新聞從業者發展出抗爭新聞劇目的生產機制,使得抗爭事件停留於報端,令抗爭者成為公共論述的參與者。新聞從業者在追求職業認同與獨立時還借用抗爭的概念,將其用作由下至上新聞改革的資源。 / 以上發現表明,媒體與社會運動作為社會行動者,其互動機制中體現出一種具有建構性與矛盾性的公共性。通過這一媒介化的抗爭事件,雙方發展出針對官方論述的話語抗爭,使得原本屬於越軌範疇的抗爭話語得以進入可公開爭議的合法範疇,由此得以重新界定公開話語空間中的意識形態邊界。 / Existing studies of media-movement interaction have argued that mainstream media tends to illegitimize and trivialize social movements. However, when applied to the newly emerged media-movement interactions in the context of an authoritarian regime, such argument becomes untenable. This study takes an anti-incinerator event taken place in Panyu, Guangzhou in 2009 as its foci of investigation. It examines how local media and the grassroots environmental movement cooperatively negotiated public issues with the government. The concept of publicity and two models of publicity (participatory publicity and visibility publicity) will be introduced. These two models will be used as analytical tools to understand the practice of and the interaction between the media and the movement. / Methodologically, this study adopts multiple methods to trace the process of the event and model the media-movement interaction mechanism. This research constructs the case by analyzing the media texts, together with both oral and written accounts of the journalists and the activists. Content analysis is employed to measure how the media represent the discursive struggles between local residents and local government, as well as how the media frames have evolved during the event. In-depth interviews have been conducted with 20 activists and journalists to explore their intentions, strategies and constraints. Questions were also asked about how they understand and evaluate themselves, each other and the social context. / The primary significance of this study is to explore how the notion of publicity is enriched by the dynamics of the media-movement interaction mechanism within an authoritarian context. The findings demonstrate that both parties have developed an increasingly interactive, equal and co-dependent relationship with one another. First, public discourses surrounding the movement have emerged and survived through the cooperation between journalists and activists. The media has developed diversified reporting angles covering not only environmental issues but also notions of democratic participation that challenged the suppressive official discourse. Second, during the framing process of the movement, the activists have invented an interactive media strategy that helped to break the constraints of journalistic practice within traditional media organizations. Meanwhile, they also adopted new media platforms to directly mobilize for collective action. Third, the journalists have developed a “journalistic repertoire of contention by which they successfully kept the story staying in the newspaper and incorporated the protesters’ voice into the public discussion. Moreover, while in search of their professional identity, the journalists also borrowed the idea of protest as a resource for the bottom-up media transformation. / The above findings suggest that the notion of publicity constructed by the media-movement interaction in this study could be described as constructive and inconsistent. Against the official discourse, journalists and activists have collaborated on the discursive contention by means of the mediated event. A framework of strategic integrated communication of banks in Accra, Ghana

The concept of SIC in the banking circle specifically in Ghana and generally in Africa has raised concerns for research because it concerns the management of the processes of communication strategies to achieve communication goals. Previously, the banking reports of Ghana required that the stakeholders of industries be well-informed using the comprehensive communication plan; however, it appears that different trends of communication strategies have been adopted recently. To this end, this study explored 3 banks operating in Accra to determine their strategic integrated communication practices with stakeholders. Using the Media Richness Theory and the Two-Way Symmetrical Model of Communication, the study analysed data obtained through in-depth interviews from staff of the banks and some documents accessed from the banks. The findings indicated that the banks need to review strategies for client satisfaction and loyalty as an output of strategically integrating communication efforts. The study concludes that bank interactivity must be conducted strategically and efficiently to achieve the best communication results. / Communication Science / Ph. D.
