Mediální obraz Československa v britském tisku 1918 - 1922 / The Image of Czechoslovakia in the British Press 1918 - 1922

Bajerová, Adéla January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the reception of the newly established Czechoslovakia by the British press from 1918 to 1922. My task was to find out how often and in what context did Czechoslovakia appear in the press and what was the difference between the image of the republic in each newspaper. Secondarily, my task was to evaluate the success of the Czechoslovak propaganda in Britain. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part presents the context of the emergence of Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak-British diplomacy aims and cultural propaganda in the given period. One chapter is dedicated to the history of the British press and includes profiles of the journals examined. The practical part incorporates both quantitative and qualitative analysis. Four broadsheets in total were analysed; The Times, The Manchester Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and a Sunday newspaper The Observer. Quantitative content analysis of The Times was used to determine the frequency, the length and the interest of the mentions of Czechoslovakia as well as the theme of the articles. Based on the quantitative analysis, sample time periods were selected for the qualitative section. The qualitative analysis further deepens the quantitative part and presents the explicit and implicit attributes that Czechoslovakia was...

In March 2019 the 5th direct presidential elections were held in Slovakia. In the first round there were 13 candidates running for the office. This thesis goes into the comparison of Zuzana Čaputová's media image since being elected on the most visited news web sites in The Czech republic and Slovakia. The goal of the thesis is to compare the quantity and content of information published in both countries and to track possible changes in the media narrative and what has caused them. Using the quantitative method of content analysis and qualitative method of frame analysis of relevant articles published on news websites Novinky.cz and Aktuality.sk I want to monitor the decline, stagnation or rise of media interest in the persona of Zuzana Čaputová in the selected time period. Mediální obraz Mexika ve zpravodajství České televize v roce 2017 / The Media Image of Mexico in Broadcasting of Česká televize in 2017

Hyláková, Klára January 2019 (has links)
We live in a time that is fundamentally affected by the media. We consume media content every day, essentially every hour and every minute of our lives. The way in which media depicts certain social groups, nations and identities significantly affects our perception of them. It has been proven that the longer we are exposed to these distorted images, the more likely we are to trust them. This thesis thus focuses on the media image of Mexico in Czech Television broadcasting. In a qualitative and quantitative content analysis, we can see that most of the broadcasted messages are negative and often refer to migration, Donald Trump's policy or natural disasters. Furthermore, given that Mexico is geographically and culturally distant from the Czech environment, the only news that makes its way into broadcasting is usually highly negative or is dependent on another elite, such as the United States. When Czech viewers are exposed to said broadcasts on a regular basis, they may get the biased impression that Mexico is a dangerous, underdeveloped country. However, it is worth noting the extent of positive information which is oftentimes being excluded, resulting in the aforementioned distorted views and opinions being formed.

With the help of qualitative and quantitative content analysis, articles from the four most read Czech printed periodicals are explored - Blesk, Mladá Fronta DNES, Právo and Sport and four Czech news websites - Blesk.cz, iDNES.cz, Sport.cz and iSport.cz. A total of 1331 articles are analyzed in the research. The main goal of the work was to map the media image of this sport and to point out possible differences in referring to female and male athletes. The results of the research showed that although the female MMA received significantly less media attention, there was no downplay on the abilities of the female athletes. The subject of this diploma thesis is media image of the Czech first ladies in the period 1993-2020. The office of the first lady is not official in the Czech Republic, so each lady determines for herself what she will do during the term of office. Czech media monitor the activities of the first ladies and, on the basis of their activities, assign certain roles to them. According to this information, which is presented to the audience, the public forms an opinion about the wives of the presidents. The aim of this thesis is to describe a media image of all Czech first ladies in the years 1993-2020. To obtain their media images, articles from the daily newspapers, from Lidové noviny and Blesk were chosen. To achieve these results, a qualitative content analysis was chosen and complemented by a quantitative content analysis. Due to insufficient resources in the field of research of the first Czech ladies, foreign literature was used in the theoretical part. The final part of this thesis contains answers to research questions, a comparison of differences in coverage of the first ladies in two different types of media and the resulting media images of all Czech first ladies.
