_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / Breast cancer is a serious public health disease that's responsible for thousands of deaths. There are many risk factors involved on it's occurrence, including nulliparity and not breast-feeding, which are both characteristics of women that have chosen to live a consecrated religious life. Nevertheless, factors related do each of their life histories must also be considered, for example, like having a close relative affected with this illness. The breast cancer morbidity and mortality are reduced by the realization of preventive clinical exams, such as the breast selfexamination, clinical breast exam and mammography. This study objective was to contextualize, through the bioethical references of autonomy, Intervention Bioethics and Protection Bioethics, how catholic consecrated religious women, popularly known as nuns, do the secondary prevention of breast cancer. The instrument adopted was a structured self-applied questionnaire in a sample of forty catholic consecrated religious women in Distrito Federal, whose institutions were indicated by the Conferencia dos Religiosos do Brasil. Among all the subjects, the majority of women surveyed were aged between 60 and 69 years were above the national average in access to university. Towards the breast self-examination, 5% of the subjects informed they've never done the procedure, meanwhile 95% of them have already done it. Regarding the clinical breast exam, 60% of the participants considered visiting a gynecologist something important to all women. On the topic of mammography, 22,5% never done this exam, whereas 77,5% have done it. Finally, 40% of the religious women informed to have access to health information by more than one media. It can be concluded that the study group have access to health information. It is also claimed that the women surveyed are aware of secondary prevention of breast cancer. The satisfactory results of the study could be because the institutions which were part of consecrated religious women were nominated by an institution of the Catholic Church from which they are associated. Anyway, it is emphasized that the matter should be dealt seriously with concrete actions in public health actions and that the individual be protected and have access to health care as recommended by the Federal Constitution.
