A Comparison of the Effectiveness of Inservice Education Programs for Members of Local Boards of Trustees in Selected Texas School Districts: A Descriptive Study

Meeker, Nancy Ruff 05 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study was to describe inservice education programs for members of local boards of trustees and to assess the knowledge and attitude toward inservice of participating and non-participating board members. The major purposes of this study were to describe training programs carried on in selected school districts, and to assess and compare the knowledge and attitudes toward inservice education of board members who do and do not participate in those training programs. The project involved the identification of skill areas necessary for board members, the development of instruments to measure knowledge and attitudes toward inservice, the selection of boards of trustees from six school districts for an experimental and a control group, the description of inservice education programs in operation in districts comprising the experimental group, and the assessment of knowledge and attitudes of members of the experimental and control groups.

Společníci v jednotlivých formách obchodních společností / Members of Individual Types of Business Companies

Radoměřská, Jana January 2017 (has links)
The presented thesis with the title "Members of Individual Types of Business Companies" deals with the analysis of the legal status of companies' partners. The primary aim of the thesis is to identify and describe in detail the most fundamental aspects that define and influence the participation of members in particular forms of business companies, and, in the final consequence, the very nature of these entities. The main subject of this thesis is a member's relationship, which represents a binding line between a business company and partners as individuals. Through the examination of particular elements of this legal relationship including specific ways leading to its creation or termination within each type of the business company the differences in the legal status of subjects of these entities are determined. The issue of partners' legal status regulation is analysed from the perspective de lege lata, while in suitable cases the positive law is compared with the preceding legislation. The goal of such a comparison is to declare the evolution in the normative solution to a particular question. The thesis also deals with some parts of company laws which are problematic in terms of interpretation. Using the interpretative rules, I am assuming a viewpoint of my own in order to overcome the...

Lateral torsional instability of single channels restrained by angle cleats

Bukusa, Gregoire Mulumba 26 May 2014 (has links)
M.Ing. (Civil Engineering) / Cold-formed steel lipped channels are among the most used sections, as framing members in the building construction industry, especially in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. In portal frame, when lipped channels are used as main frame members, they are usually restrained from the top flange through angle-cleat to prevent lateral-torsional buckling. This restraining system works together with an additional restrain system called fly-bracing. Drilling a bolt-hole or welding the angle cleat onto the flange of the main frame weakens its bearing length. Additional disadvantage of this restraining system is the fabrication costs of providing fly bracing. However, past research into lateral-torsional buckling of cold-formed steel lipped channel sections are limited. Therefore this study investigates a restrain that avoids bolt holes and welding in the top flange of the rafter, and the use of fly bracing. In the first phase of this research, tensile coupon tests of the three cross-sections are conducted to obtain the material properties. The elastic modulus and yield strength of the cold-formed steel used are determined from stress-strain relationship. These properties are used to calculate the code-predicted lateral-torsional buckling moment resistance. The second phase of this study involves a series of experiments on the lateral torsional instability of single cold-formed channels. The channels are restrained by a purlin – angle cleat connection and are subjected to a two point loading system in order to simulate a distributed load. Failure of the channels occurred by local buckling of the compression zone of the flange and web and lateral torsional buckling of the channels between points of lateral support. Tests have shown the purlin – angle cleat connection to be capable of restraining the frames from failing due to lateral-torsional buckling. This eliminates the idea of using fly-bracings, as is normally done in practice to restrain torsional instability. The results from the experimental study do agree well with those predict by the South- African code, SANS 10162-2: 2005. This research presents the details and results of the experimental study including a comparison of results with the South-African code SANS 10162-2: 2005 predictions. It also presents the recommendations made regarding the use of a numerical model study in order to compare the results with those from the experiments.

Gender, Race, and the Media Representation of Women in the Canadian 41st Parliament: A Critical Discourse Analysis

2014 July 1900 (has links)
Media representations of diverse groups in Canadian society have been shown by researchers to influence their individual and collective sense of well-being and by inference their welfare (Fleras, 2012; Henry & Tator, 2002; Gist, 1990). Nevertheless, mainstream media continue to be racially and/or sexually biased in their representation of minority groups, especially racialized minority and Aboriginal women. Although efforts have been made by the government and various interest groups to promote the tenets of equality, impartiality and objectivity as advocated in the Multiculturalism Act of 1988, Canadian broadcasting Act and the Employment Equity Act, media bias persists. Existing research exploring media representation of diverse groups in the political sphere has not been very thorough. The myopic focus on either the gender or race of candidates and their campaign activities en-route to political offices, offers limited analysis of the intersected identities of office holders in terms of their race/ethnicity and gender. Given the centrality of Parliament in formulating and upholding the tenets of social democracy in Canadian society, this study aims to address this gap by interrogating media representations of women with multiple targeted identities in the Canadian 41st Parliament – specifically the House of Commons. Through Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), this study examines mainstream and ethnic media representations of racialized minority and Aboriginal women MPs relative to their white counterparts in order to evaluate bias in these portrayals. In addition, the portrayal of racialized minority and Aboriginal women MPs in mainstream and ethnic newspapers are compared to highlight their convergences and divergences. The study’s findings reveal that while gender biased representations cut across both mainstream and ethnic media, ethnic media offer more positive portrayals of racialized MPs and their communities relative to mainstream media. The study also reveals that gender and race are not independent axes of oppression but operate simultaneously to compound oppressive misrepresentation of racialized minority women.

Tills döden skiljer oss åt : Anhörigas erfarenheter av specialiserade palliativa verksamheter / To death do us apart : Relatives experiences of special palliative care

Hellström, Anna, Malmbom Lång, Ellinor January 2017 (has links)
Background: To be the close relative of a terminally ill person, who is receiving special palliative care, is a life changing experience. According to the guide lines for palliative care both the patients and their family members have the right to support, and to be part of the caring process. For nurses to be able to meet the needs of relatives, understanding their experience of special palliative care is crucial. Aim: To highlight the family´s experience of palliative care from specialist palliative operations. Method: A method based on the analysis of qualitative research was used, in order to contribute to evidence-based care. Ten scientific articles were analysed. Results: Emotions of guilt and relief were common amongst family members. The family members experienced that the nurses where a safe harbor when the family members received the support they needed. Sometimes the family members felt as if their homes and their private sphere became a workplace. Conclusion: Honest, straight, and clear communication was of great importance. For family members to be able to ask nurses for help and to feel supported in different situations was also important. The physical symptoms of death approaching became symbols of grief and sorrow.
