Preconception strategies to improve maternal and newborn outcomes in Blantyre Urban, Malawi

Kadango, Alice 05 1900 (has links)
The study was done to assess the information and care the men and women have on PCC and develop strategies that could improve provision of PCC that could advance maternal and newborn outcome after pregnancy in Malawi. Most for the interventions to improve pregnancy outcome are done too late in Malawi but there is an opportunity during preconception period to plan to improve the health of the couple so that the goal of a healthy mother and baby is attained. The objectives were to: explore and describe the knowledge men and women of childbearing age have on HTSP and PCC, identify variables that influence men and women to acquire appropriate knowledge on PCC and finally to develop strategies that could assist provision of PCC in developing countries like Malawi. Adverse issues that affect the couples could be addressed promptly before the occurrence of pregnancy. A quantitative non-experimental descriptive-correlation design method was used to determine the knowledge men and women of childbearing have on HTSP and PCC. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 300 men and women of childbearing age. The target population for the study was prospective parents that are couples that have an intention to conceive, women of childbearing age that could be accessible at family planning, gyneacological and under-five clinics between the ages of 18-35 years. A questionnaire was adapted from a study conducted in Texas. SPSS version 20 was used to analyse the data by generating frequencies and chi- square. Kruskal Wallis test was used to determine relationship between variables and knowledge on preconception care. The constructs examined were psychological preparation, reproductive health care and the physical care that are provided to ensure a healthy pregnancy outcome. With a 100% response rate the findings indicated a gap of information and care on PCC.Services on PCC were not available in the clinics which indicated a great need to empower health care providers on PCC that could reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rate. The findings were used to develop relevant preconception strategies that would assist health providers to give PCC that would improve maternal and newborn outcomes in Malawi. / D. Litt. et Phil. Význam genderového auditu při prosazování rovných příležitostí pro ženy a muže: případová studie společnosti Česká spořitelna, a.s. / The significance of gender audit by asserting equal opportunities for women and men: the Česká spořitelna, a.s. company case study

Čechová, Miroslava January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation is a case study of Česká spořitelna, a. s. It shows the significance of gender audit by asserting equal opportunities for women and men. The theoretical part introduces how gender equality could be asserted and also summarizes how the concept has (not) been practically fulfilled (particularly in the area of labour market). It emphasizes the gender audit as one of the possible tools of change when asserting the gender equality. The empirical part of this dissertation is investigating the significance of gender audit for asserting the equal opportunities in Česká spořitelna, a. s. Therefore it analyzes a final report of the first gender audit and compares its design with another final report that came out of the second implemented gender audit. It also analyzes the processes the company adopted after the first gender audit to promote the equal opportunities for women and men. The impacts and the efficiency of the measures (either proposed or implemented) are analyzed critically with regard to their influence on the gender equality.

Síla ideologie: Selektivní konstrukty Graye a Grubera / Power of ideology: Selective Gray's and Gruber's constructs

Rottenbornová, Zdeňka January 2016 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the analysis of two popular psychological handbooks focusing on relationships between men and women, namely the book "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus" by American psychologist J. Gray, and the Czech equivalent "Why women can't understand men" by D. Gruber. The main research question of this thesis is how gender stereotypes are created in popular psychology literature and by what means they become naturalized. The theoretical starting point is both the influence of popular psychology on its audience as well as the introduction of the basic concepts in their relation to gender as an analytic category, gender order, gender stereotypes and mechanisms of forming and maintaining masculinity and femininity. Empirical research presents qualitative content analysis and discourse analysis of "Why men are from Mars", women are from Venus compared with the Czech book "Why women can't understand men". The research mainly focuses on how these two authors work with gender stereotypes about men and women and their forming of seemingly everlasting and universal gender binarism.

Problematika nezaměstnanosti v České republice a v Německu z pohledu gender / Problems of Unemployment in the Czech Republic and Germany from Gender Point of View

TESAŘOVÁ, Štěpánka January 2009 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with problems of employment and unemployment policy from the special point of view: the use of equal opportunity of men and women (gender equality) in the Czech Republic, Germany and the European Union. The theoretical part describes employment, unemployment, promotion of women and men at employment market from the gender point of view, and discriminatory differences in the field of financial evaluation of men and women for the same amount and kind of work. The practical part gives the comparison of the employment policy from the gender perspective (rate of employment and unemployment of men and women) on the basis of statistical information of the member states of the European Union {--} the Czech Republic and Germany. The main goal of this work is to show and emphasize the fact, that some aspects of discrimination in the field of gender relationships at work and in private life still exist even in the present modern society. It depends on all of us mainly, in which way and direction these problems of gender equality will develop in the society in future.

Därför slog jag henne! : En kvalitativ studie om mäns erfarenheter av sitt våld mot sina tidigare partners

Pietrzyk, Diana January 2018 (has links)
The aim of the study has been to highlight men's experiences of their violence against their former partners. The questions that answered the purpose of the study have focused on the reasons why men tend to use violence against their partners and whether they subsequently take responsibility for their violence and if so, how this is the case. The study is of a qualitative approach and is based on five interviews with men who have been treated for their violent behavior. The theories that the study leans towards are the social psychological and sociological perspectives with a focus on social heritage and the social learning theory. The study's empirical data and the causes of the violence is also linked to the external factors of the ecological perspective, such as drugs, alcohol, economic vulnerability and crime. Other theoretical perspectives and explanatory models that are used to explain men's acts of violence against their former partner are the disfavor perspective in the individual psychological perspective, the gender power perspective and system theory explanatory models. The result of the study indicate that the causes of men's violence against women are often explained as the woman's own fault when the man often believes that the woman has provoked him to take violence. Many times, however, there are several different reasons for men's violence against women who are interwoven in several different theoretical explanatory models. Many of the men in the study still do not take responsibility for their acts of violence and do not want to identify themselves as a women abusers, even though they have been treated and in therapy for the violence against their former partner. However, some of the men in the study also found that the treatment helped them understand the causes of the violence and that they also have a responsibility as it comes to the violence they subjected their former partners to.
