This dissertation is an anthropological analysis of conceptions of the Consolata missionaries and anthropologists about the Yanomami from texts. In an attempt to present these concepts, we mapped the positions of discursive agents who wrote about these Indians, as well as the arguments and elements mobilized by them. Our hypothesis is that the category violence is fundamental in the inscription of otherness and assumes different meanings, which reveals, finally, disputes of sense of what it means to be Yanomami and that means violence.
