O caráter transitivo das categorias possibilita um movimento relativo de inclusão e exclusão dos diferentes Outros, sendo manipuladas estrategicamente pelos Sanuma de acordo com os diferentes contextos culturais, sociais e políticos. Discutiremos também as diferentes mudanças que ocorrem nas categorias de alteridade conforme o conhecimento dos Sanuma sobre os Outros aumenta. ____________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The present work seeks to discuss the current setting of the Auaris Sanuma’s alterity categories which results from the relationship with the Other (tiko töpö). The transitive character of the categories allows a relative movement of inclusion and exclusion of different otherness as it is strategically manipulated by Sanuma according to different cultural, social and political contexts. This work also concerns the different changes the alterity categories suffers as the Sanuma’s knowledge about the Other increases.

Suas muitas facetas conduzem a vários tópicos - a compreensão do corpo e seu funcionamento, os agentes que o agridem e as formas de tratamento - sejam eles dados pela medicina tradicional ou pela biomedicina, o que leva a explorar o funcionamento do sistema de saúde Sanumá, incluindo tanto as atividades da equipe médica ocidental quanto dos médicos tradicionais, os xamãs. Dentre vários temas, a tese aborda um plano geral de todos os atores e ações que compõem a saúde Sanumá. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation focuses on the Sanumá health system. The Sanumá comprise the northernmost subgroup of the Yanomami language family. The work aims at identifying and understanding the intricate process of health/illness as it is manifested in the Upper Auaris region. It focuses on the construction of the human body, how it functions, how it is affected by aggressive agents, and what forms of treatment are available, be they provided by traditional medicine or by Western biomedicine. In order to cover as many themes as possible, the dissertation attempts to give a general overview of all the actors and actions that encompass Sanumá health.

Esta tese tem por objeto a relação dos Yanomami do norte amazônico com a morte, tomada como via privilegiada de aprofundamento de nosso entendimento de seus modos de ser/estar no universo, hutu kara, dizem eles. Descreve seus conceitos de comunidade, cuja existência e funcionamento estão intimamente ligados à máquina ritual-escatológica, delineia os pontos centrais de sua ontologia e de sua noção de pessoa e analisa o ritual mortuário, reahu, propondo ver nele a realização máxima dos mais vários aspectos da cosmologia e da vida social yanomami. Baseada em experiência de campo de uma década, incorpora a vasta literatura dedicada aos Yanomami à luz de fatos observados e, sobretudo, de explicações que me foram dadas por eles ao longo dos anos. / This thesis is dedicated to the northern-amazonian Yanomami\'s relation to death, taken as a privileged way of deepening our understandings of their modes of being in the universe, hutu kara, as they say. It describes their concepts of community, whose existence and functioning are intimately related to the ritual-eschatological machine, outlines the main points of their ontology and notion of personhood and analises the mortuary ritual, reahu, proposing to see it as the ultimate realization of the various aspects of yanomami cosmology and social life. Based on fieldwork carried on for more than a decade, it incorporates the vast literature on the Yanomami in the light of observed facts and, above all, of the explanations given to me by them throughout the years.

Desde a década de 1960, a violência entre os Yanomami tem sido um dos mais polêmicos temas de pesquisa para etnologia americanista, inaugurando um debate que abrangeu discussões no âmbito da antropologia ecológica, da sociobiologia e da genética, passando pela arqueologia, os estudos de gênero e a filosofia política. Por meio da análise de dados coletados entre os Yanomami habitantes da Serra das Surucucus (RR/Brasil), pretendo mostrar como seu sistema de agressões relaciona-se às relações de parentesco, à ocupação do espaço e à definição de unidades sociais. As relações entre essas unidades, por sua vez, são enfocadas mediante sua interface com o com os funerais e o universo cosmológico, elementos fundamentais para a delimitação do fenômeno e para a compreensão da dinâmica de aproximação e distanciamento que caracteriza o sistema. / Since the 1960s, violence among the Yanomami has been one of the most polemical research topics in South American Ethnology, giving rise to a debate that has drawn contributions from the areas of ecological anthropology, sociobiology and genetics as well as archaeology, gender studies and political philosophy. Through an analysis of ethnographic data collected among the Yanomami of the Serra das Surucucus (Roraima, Brazil), this thesis demonstrates the ways in which the Yanomami’s system of aggressions relates to their kinship system, their settlement patterns and their definition of social units. The relations between these units, for their part, are analysed through their interface with Yanomami funeral practices and cosmology, fundamental elements in the investigation of the phenomenon of Yanomami aggression and for the understanding of the dynamic of approach and withdrawal that characterizes this system.

Na tentativa de apresentar essas concepções, procuramos mapear as posições discursivas de agentes que escreveram sobre esses índios, bem como os argumentos e elementos mobilizados por eles. Nossa hipótese é de que a categoria violência é fundamental na inscrição da alteridade e assume distintos sentidos, o que revela, enfim, disputas de sentidos do que significa ser Yanomami e do que significa violência. / This dissertation is an anthropological analysis of conceptions of the Consolata missionaries and anthropologists about the Yanomami from texts. In an attempt to present these concepts, we mapped the positions of discursive agents who wrote about these Indians, as well as the arguments and elements mobilized by them. Our hypothesis is that the category violence is fundamental in the inscription of otherness and assumes different meanings, which reveals, finally, disputes of sense of what it means to be Yanomami and that means violence.

Comparo as relações estabelecidas entre por um lado os piaçabeiros ribeirinhos das comunidades multiétnicas do médio e baixo curso deste rio (localizadas fora da Terra Indígena) patrões e agentes intermediários no âmbito do sistema de aviamento e por outro as estabelecidas entre os Yanomamɨ e estes agentes. Realizo também uma retrospectiva histórica por um lado do povoamento empreendido pelos Yanomamɨ dos tributários da margem esquerda do Rio Negro e por outro dos processos que resultaram no atual perfil populacional do médio Rio Negro, bem como do contato entre estas duas populações. A pesquisa se calca em trabalho de campo realizado entre julho e agosto de 2015, durante o qual acompanhei a comercialização da piaçaba entre grupos yanomamɨ de quatro aldeias diferentes e três regatões, realizada nas imediações da Cachoeira da Aliança, localizada no Rio Padauiri. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / In this research I analyse the social relationship between Yanomamɨ people of the upper Padauri river region (Terra Indígena Yanomami, Barcelos/AM) who are engage on the piaçaba (Leopolidinia piassaba Wallace) fiber exploitation and other ones, both intermediaries and end buyers of the aviamento system (debt-peonage system ) on the middle Rio Negro with those with whom they negotiate. I compare the social relationships between, on the one hand, “piaçabeiros” who inhabits the riverine multiethnic communities of the middle Padauiri (located out of the Terra Indígena Yanomami) and “patrões” and, on the other hand, those social relationships between Yanomamɨ and “regatões”. I also do a historical retrospective, on the one hand, of the Yanomami migrations to the tributaries of the left bank of the Rio Negro and, on the other hand, the genesis of the actual middle Rio Negro population, as well of the contact between this two populations. This research is based on a fieldwork from july to augst, when I had the oportunity fieldwork from july to augst when I had the oportunity to accompany negotiations beteween four yanomami groups and three regatões, held in nearby the Cachoeira da Aliança (a Padauiri river waterfall, out of the Terra Indígena Yanomami).
