Corporate social responsibility of African and Middle East mobile operators towards climate change and the potential impact of its carbon footprint

Biewenga, Reiner 08 1900 (has links)
Research report, presented to the SBL Unisa, Midrand. / The current and future anticipated changes in the earth’s climate are a concern that has captured business’s and governments’ global attention. Climate change and its potential impacts cannot be ignored as there is ample evidence that global warming is indeed the result of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. The mobile operator in Africa and the Middle East (ME) operates on continents and in parts of the world, predicted by scientists as the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The mobile operator in Africa and the Middle East is moreover an emitter of significant amounts of CO2 and this exacerbates the serious environmental climate change problem that humankind faces. This research paper addresses the Corporate Social Responsibility of African and Middle East (ME) mobile operators, and its Carbon Footprint. The main objectives of the research are to identify strategic risks and opportunities and the implications for the mobile operator and to determine its Greenhouse Gas emissions. The performance against targets and plans to reduce GHG emissions are also reviewed. The research is based on the questionnaire of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) initiative. A shortened and modified version of the CDP was designed and emailed to two major mobile telecom operators both operating in Africa and the Middle East. It is postulated that the telecommunications industry is at an inflection point where significant changes must take place in the way energy requirements are managed. This in turn could have a positive effect on reducing its carbon footprint, benefit corporate reputation and at the same time earn “green miles” in the subscriber’s minds. The research reached the main conclusion that the mobile operators’ investigated do not yet have strategies, systems and reporting in place to be counted as “good corporate citizens” concerning their environmental responsibility. The research further concluded that a proactive strategic intent is a necessity to achieve this goal. In short: The Corporate Social Responsibility of African and Middle East mobile operators indeed has a positive effect on its Carbon Footprint.

Kombinácia simulačných metód a metód viackriteriálneho rozhodovania pri volbe taríf mobilných operátorov z hľadiska firmy / Combination of simulation methods and methods of multicriterial decision while purchasing mobile tariffs by companies.

Millová, Terézia January 2007 (has links)
Because of the high penetration of private market, mobile operators are forced to focus on the services offered to another customer segment. Recently, corporate customers are seen as a promising segment and the competition within this segment is rising significantly. The growth of the competition and offer enhancement force companies to understand the decision making process in purchasing mobile services as much as possible. It is not only time consuming but also financially demanding for management even in small firms. This decision making process, that the companies go through, is the main topic of this Master Thesis. Main goal is neither to choose particular vendor of the mobile services nor to choose particular mobile tariff from the recent market offer but to inform about possibilities proposed by mathematical methods in the decision making area. In the Master Thesis different methods are suggested, compared and combined with the target to enable companies to make the right decision concerning their specific requirements.

Konkurenční trendy na trhu mobilnich služeb v ČR na počátku 21.století / Competitive trends on the market with mobile services in the Czech Republic at the beginning of the 21st century

Knollová, Veronika January 2012 (has links)
Diploma thesis analyzes market with mobile services in the Czech republic. Goal of the thesis is to answer the question, if chosen solution by Czech Telecommunication Office is optimal for increase of competition on the market. Theoretical part firstly is concerned with state interventions (and so licensing) from the point of view of well-known economists. Secondly, then the historical process of telecommunications in United States and in Europe is outlined. Finally, legislation and its current changes are mentioned . Practical part introduces market using Porter's model of five competitive forces, PEST analysis and SWOT analysis. Special chapter is dedicated to foreign mobile markets in chosen countries (in Germany and France) and compares them to the Czech one. Empirical and theoretical data doubts that the effective competition on the market can be achieved by licensing and so auctions.

Volají Češi draze? Analýza trhu služeb mobilních operátorů v ČR / Phones Czech consumers expensively? Market analysis of mobile operators in the Czech Republic.

Masák, Tomáš January 2012 (has links)
This thesis will examine whether the price level on the market of mobile services in comparison with other countries is high or not. After performing own international price comparison which revealed high price level in both analyzed consumer baskets thesis offers some possible options which could lead to the current high price level on the market. The observed high market concentration is one of the possible solutions and leads to discover several solutions whose analysis shows that high price level in the Czech mobile services market cannot be associated with only one factor. The price level is mainly affected by the absence of more operators which can be partly attributed to the insufficient steps of market regulator - ČTÚ especially in the area of termination fees and lease licenses to operating in mobile networks. Both of these steps are also very important for the future development of the market.

Performance Management Systems in Albanian Mobile Operators – Two Case Studies

Pone, Dorian January 2012 (has links)
This thesis explores the components of the MCSs in use by two Albanian Mobile Operators AMC and Eagle. The methodology used is that of multiple case studies; the study is interpretative, analyzing qualitative data, and has an inductive approach. There are three MCS frameworks used the Object of Control (Merchant and Van der Stede 2007), Control Package (Malmi and Brown 2008) and Performance Management Systems (Otley and Ferreira 2009). The empirical findings were gathered by using semi-structured interviews. Both managerial and non-managerial staff were interviewed according to their areas of expertise in MCSs. The findings suggest that the MCSs used by the two operators are highly structured as per the three frameworks, that AMC does not use any well known model (such as BSC, Tableau de Bord, Performance Prism etc.), whereas Eagle uses a customized BSC, and that the strategies of each of the companies are translated into action through the respective MCSs.
