Eskatologiese dimensie in die Wêreldsendingkonferensies 1910-1938

Van Wyngaard, Arnau 21 February 2006 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / This thesis attempts to explore the relationship between eschatology and mission. This is done in the context of three ecumenical mission conferences held from 1910 to 1938. In the first chapter an overview is given of a number of the most important eschatological models, as well as an evaluation of these models to explore the author's own viewpoint. The broad eschatological lines through the ages are then followed and the relationship between eschatology and mission is indicated in a few important areas, namely the involvement of the church in social questions, unity in the church and the Christian hope. In the second chapter the mission conferences held in New York (1900) and Edinburgh (1910), which both occurred at a time of great optimism in the church, are discussed. At that time mission was especially seen as the salvation of the soul. In the third chapter the meeting held in Jerusalem in 1928, which took place in a time of great uncertainty for the church, is discussed. Here emphasis was laid upon the social task of the church. In chapter four mission in the shadow of the Second World War is discussed, concentrating on the meeting held at Tambaram (1938). During this meeting eschatology played an important role. There was a greater balance between the salvation of the soul and the salvation of the body. Church unity and a living hope also played an important role amongst the delegates. In the fifth chapter some conclusions are drawn for the church in general, while a few principles are indicated regarding eschatology and mission specifically for the Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk (Dutch Reformed Church). / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. Testamenty urozených žen v Čechách mezi lety 1650-1753. Gender a legitimizační strategie šlechty v testamentárním diskurzu / Testaments of Bohemian Noblewomen in the Period from 1650 to 1753. Gender and the Legitimization Strategy of the Nobility within the Early Modern testamentary Discours

SWIDEROVÁ, Kristina January 2008 (has links)
The thesis Testaments of Bohemian Noblewomen in the Period from 1650 to 1753. Gender and the Legitimization Strategy of the Nobility within the Early Modern testamentary Discours is based on the set of accounts left by noblewomen, and tries to find out the role of gender and the meaning of piety within the testamentary field. Using a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis confronted with prescriptive document´s point of view, it examines the testamentary field at three different levels. First of all, it focuses on the contemporary legal status of women. Secondly it deals with the formal structure and terms of last wills, such as property settlement, which is usually the main reason for testaments being composed. But the emphasis is laid on the testamentary piety, which is perceived among others as a means of the legitimization of the nobility itself, for which the process of the adjustments before death was well suited. The thesis is complemented by a standalone chapter researching codicils, documents supplementing or altering original settlements for the case of death. The comparison of their mutual content with last wills reveals real religious feelings, which are otherwise disguised by the emphasis laid on the formality of the testament{\crq}s text. The main goal of the research is to help in the understanding of creation and manifestation of gender roles in different areas of early modern society´s lifestyles as well as to contribute to the recognition of the changes that, at latest by the beginning of 19th century, led to general secularization of the religious practices.

Manželské strategie české šlechty v předbělohorském období / Matrimony strategies of the Czech aristocracy in the pre-White Mountain period

TARANTOVÁ, Kateřina January 2009 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis, Marriage Strategies of the Czech Aristocracy in the Pre-White Mountain Period, is to introduce strategies, which the members of aristocracy, especially the high nobility, exploited in the period before the battle of White Mountain. The choice of partner is understood in this context as a means of self-presentation of an individual and his or her family, and as symbol of the aristocracy's identity in the early modern period. This diploma thesis is based on a database of marriages of Czech aristocrats between 1500 and 1650, utilising available literature and published sources. The thesis analyses these known facts and observes how the above mentioned strategies differed in dependence on the social and property status of the family. Firstly, the requirements when choosing a partner related to social aspects: for example the social group of the bridesroom and bride; whether their marriage was within their social group, or if marriages between a man from knighthood and woman from nobility and vice versa were common; whether brothers and sisters married partners from the same social group or first-borns married partners from higher social groups than their younger siblings, or vice versa. Secondly, there are geographical aspects: for example the region from which men chose their brides; and whether they preferred women of Czech or foreign origin. Finally, the role of religion will be discussed, to determine whether it was a crucial factor when choosing a partner, and whether marriages of people of different beliefs were possible.

Krig och kärlek i det tidigmoderna Dalarna. Dalregementets befäls äktenskapsmönster 1650–1799.

Berggren, Simon January 2015 (has links)

The Functionality of Early Modern Collections

Kinch, Brittanie A 07 January 2011 (has links)
The following research records the functionality of collections of wealthy individuals in an effort to clarify the current system of collection categorization. Although many functions were indeed possible, this research will be restricted to the discussion of collections in which objects reveal the collector’s devotional, social, and intellectual curiosity. These classifications reflect the most prevalent themes initiated by my research on collections of royal and affluent collectors during the Early Modern Period, and as such are the three most rational means of discussing collections as functional, working, tools.
