Theoretical Evidence for Reassignment of Two Fundamental Vibrational Modes of Tetrafluorooxirane-16O and -18O

Liu, Ruifeng, Clark, Jeffrey A., Krauser, Joel A., Tate, Dennis R., Moody, Paula R., Vanburen, Alex S. 01 January 1996 (has links)
Ab initio and density functional theory calculations confirm Craig's assignment of the fundamental vibrational modes of tetrafluorooxirane with the exception that assignments of the C-F stretching modes v9 (b1) and v13 (b2) should be exchanged. The calculated structural parameters are in good agreement with results of microwave studies except for the C-C bond length for which all the calculated results are slightly too long.

Agroforesterie, modernisation agricole et modes de vie Hani : Étude d'un projet-pilote au Yunnan, Chine

Corneau, Sophie 17 September 2020 (has links)

Heidegger's Hermeneutic Phenomenology and the Application to Ghanaian Women's Experiences of Unsuccessful Invitro Fertilisation (IVF) Treatment

Amoah, Vida Maame Kissiwaa 09 September 2020 (has links)
Ghanaian women experiencing infertility problem, have been seeking invitro fertilisation treatment in the quest for motherhood, however there is a dearth in the nursing studies researching this phenomenon. It appears that the concept and meanings of infertility is inadequately explored from the perspective of women experiences following unsuccessful invitro fertilisation treatment. In particular, it is vital to be knowledgeable about the challenges women encounter when undergoing IVF treatment and following unsuccessful procedure. The study sought to gain a deeper knowledge and to understand the meanings women struggling with infertility and its treatment experience and how invitro fertilisation treatment failure affects women in their everyday life. To unearth the women perception and meaning attributed to their experiences of unsuccessful infertility treatment, Heidegger's philosophy of phenomenology underpinned this study. A semistructured opening question and further probing questions were used to gather information which was reduced to sub-themes and main themes which captured the participant's lived experiences of unsuccessful invitro fertilisation treatment. I adopted van Manen's (1990) six steps of research activities as a structure to unravel the participants' phenomenological conversations. Applying Heidegger's concept of the three modes of existence (Existenze): authenticity, inauthenticity and undifferentiatedness, four major themes were identified: 1. Seeking wholistic and authentic care- authenticity 2. Facing up to the Angst- inauthenticity 3. The vulnerable self - inauthenticity 4. Living with infertility (being-in-the-world-of-motherless) - undifferentiatedness The participants' phenomenological conversations and their stories have revealed a range of challenges Ghanaian women who seek invitro fertilisation treatment go through. The study contribute significantly by giving insight to the painful experiences Ghanaian women go through when seeking invitro fertilisation treatment and has given a voice to how assisted reproductive technologies are currently experienced in the Ghanaian context. From the women's narrative, it appeared that their emotional and informational needs were not being met and were not being cared for as expected. The findings provide some direction regarding the needs of women experiencing infertility for information, support and advocacy in their pursuit of assisted reproductive technology services in Ghana. There is a critical need to simplify invitro fertilisation treatment and provision of safe, affordable procedure so that the average Ghanaian women can access it.

Relative Toxicity of Select Dehydropyrrolizidine Alkaloids and Evaluation of a Heterozygous P53 Knockout Mouse Model for Dehydropyrrolizidine Alkaloid Induced Carcinogenesis

Brown, Ammon W. 01 May 2015 (has links)
Dehydropyrrolizidine alkaloids (DHPAs) are a large group of globally important plant-derived pro-toxins that can contaminate or are naturally present in animal feed and the human food supply as well as herbal supplements. Their bioactive metabolites are potentially hepatotoxic, pneumotoxic, genotoxic and carcinogenic. Due to the difficulty in obtaining sufficient quantities of purified DHPAs, toxicity studies have largely relied on single intraperitoneal injections in rodent models, and carcinogenicity studies have been limited to a small handful of the hundreds of isolated DHPAs. To assess the relative toxicity of structurally diverse DHPAs in a more biologically relevant manner, male California White chicks were dosed orally with 0.01, 0.04, 0.13, or 0.26 mmol of seven different DHPAs and three DHPA N-oxides kg-1 bodyweight for 7 days. DHPAs were grouped in relation to their toxicity based on clinical, serum biochemical, and histopathological evaluations as well as tissue adduct accumulation rates. Using the same model, a reduced extract from comfrey, a commonly used DHPA containing herb, was compared to its two major constituent DHPAs, intermedine and lycopsamine. Based on the same parameters, the comfrey extract was more toxic than pure lycopsamine or intermedine. Addressing the need for a more sensitive carcinogenicity model, male heterozygous p53 knockout mice were treated with riddelliine 5, 15 or 45 mg kg–1 bodyweight day-1 by oral gavage for 14 days, or given a long-term treatment of riddelliine 1 mg kg-1 bodyweight day–1 in pelleted feed for 12 months. Exposure to riddelliine increased the odds of tumor development in a dose-responsive manner (odds ratio 2.05 and Wald 95% confidence limits between 1.2 and 3.4). The most common neoplasm was hepatic hemangiosarcoma, which is consistent with previously published lifetime rodent studies. The results of this research demonstrate that the California White chick model is sensitive for comparison of DHPA toxicity, and data obtained from this research can be used to validate previous DHPA toxicity research. It also demonstrates that comfrey toxicity may have been previously underestimated. The heterozygous p53 knockout mouse model is beneficial for further investigation of comparative carcinogenesis of structurally and toxicologically different DHPAs and their N-oxides.

Next-Generation Smart Cars: Towards a More Intelligent Interactive Infotainment System

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: Today, in a world of automation, the impact of Artificial Intelligence can be seen in every aspect of our lives. Starting from smart homes to self-driving cars everything is run using intelligent, adaptive technologies. In this thesis, an attempt is made to analyze the correlation between driving quality and its impact on the use of car infotainment system and vice versa and hence the driver distraction. Various internal and external driving factors have been identified to understand the dependency and seriousness of driver distraction caused due to the car infotainment system. We have seen a number UI/UX changes, speech recognition advancements in cars to reduce distraction. But reducing the number of casualties on road is still a persisting problem in hand as the cognitive load on the driver is considered to be one of the primary reasons for distractions leading to casualties. In this research, a pathway has been provided to move towards building an artificially intelligent, adaptive and interactive infotainment which is trained to behave differently by analyzing the driving quality without the intervention of the driver. The aim is to not only shift focus of the driver from screen to street view, but to also change the inherent behavior of the infotainment system based on the driving statistics at that point in time without the need for driver intervention. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Software Engineering 2017

Sampling Fusion: Ekvivalence měření tří módů sběru dat / Sampling Fusion: Measurement invariance of three modes of data collection

Rybín, Filip January 2021 (has links)
The questionnaire survey is a key tool for examining social phenomena, but like society as a whole, it is undergoing development and needs to be subjected to constant analysis in order to improve it. The approach of mixed modes of data collection can then be used to evaluate and compare individual modes at the level of measurement invariance in order to point out their degree of measurement accuracy and to evaluate similarity or difference. Through the analysis of political participation, preference and measurement accuracy for three different modes of data collection - CATI, CAWI and CAWI with sampling frame of social network Facebook, clear differences of individual modes were defined and the recommendation of their combination was stated in order to use the strengths they offer, while minimizing the errors associated with them.

Waveguide Simualtion Using Mode Matching Method

Li, Junfeng 11 1900 (has links)
Finite-Difference (FD) based complex modes solver and Complex Mode Matching Method (CMMM) is one of the most popular combinations in modeling and simulation of opti- cal waveguides. This thesis covers the basic theories behind the approaches and impor- tant implementation details. Weighted Optical Path Distance is proposed to speed up convergence and improve numerical accuracy to deal with asymmetric structures. An improved formula is derived for Complex Mode Matching Method expansion process based on matrix optimization. The latter part applies the above approach in the mod- eling of bending structures and grating structures. Typical structures, including bend- ing structures, straight-bend-straight structures, long-period gratings, gratings with de- posited layer, gratings with deep corrugations, are investigated and analyzed. / Thesis / Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSECE)
