ARCHITECTURE DISTRIBUTED ON EUROPEAN LAUNCHERBlondeau, Fabrice 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Space vehicle telemetry requirements have evolved considerably over the past decade. More and
more onboard data need to be acquired, not only for purposes of launch vehicle qualification in
flight, but also for calibrating simulations. The flexibility required of the architecture has also
changed the hardware considerably in order to fit into many different configurations without redoing
the whole equipment development. EADS-LV accommodates these evolving needs and costs with a
modular, distributed Telemetry channel architecture. This uses a single product line to meet the
various needs ranging from the small launch vehicle to the heavy Ariane 5 vehicles.

Design to Control a Thermal Runaway in Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)Modak, Anurag January 2023 (has links)
The rapid electrification of vehicles has neccessitated advancements in battery technology, impacting various components within the car battery pack. This project focuses on the development of thermal barriers, which serve as crucial components that prevent potential fires from thermal runaway incidents in the battery pack from reaching the vehicle's interior compartment. Currently, thermal barriers are predominantly composed of mica. The objective of this project is to identify a more sustainable alternative material to mica that possesses similar properties while considering economic, social, and environmental factors. Following the product development process, a comprehensive background study and benchmark analysis were conducted. Subsequently, the specific requirements for the new material were defined, and potential suppliers providing alternative materials were identified. Torch tests and dielectric strength tests were performed to assess thermal conductivity, fire resistance, and dielectric properties, which were deemed critical attributes. The test results unveiled a novel material comprised of a combination of two distinct materials from different suppliers. One material was a composite consisting of glass fiber and carbon, exhibiting exceptional thermal properties. The other material was an electrical-grade paper boasting excellent electrical properties. When combined, these materials formed a composite that paralleled the properties of mica. The composite material had a total thickness of 2 mm, slightly thicker than the current implementation of mica. To explore the feasibility of a thinner alternative, an estimation was conducted, suggesting that a thinner sheet of the composite material could be possible. In conclusion, this study demonstrates the feasibility of replacing mica with an alternative material. Further testing and investigation are required to determine the optimal implementation and minimum thickness of the new material. However, based on the successful test results and similarity in properties, it can be affirmed that the new material has the potential to replace mica as a sustainable thermal barrier in the battery pack.

HARDWARE- VS. SOFTWARE-DRIVEN REAL-TIME DATA ACQUISITIONPowell, Richard, Kuhn, Jeff 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 23-26, 2000 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California / There are two basic approaches to developing data acquisition systems. The first is to buy or develop acquisition hardware and to then write software to input, identify, and distribute the data for processing, display, storage, and output to a network. The second is to design a system that handles some or all of these tasks in hardware instead of software. This paper describes the differences between software-driven and hardware-driven system architectures as applied to real-time data acquisition systems. In explaining the characteristics of a hardware-driven system, a high-performance real-time bus system architecture developed by L-3 will be used as an example. This architecture removes the bottlenecks and unpredictability that can plague software-driven systems when applied to complex real-time data acquisition applications. It does this by handling the input, identification, routing, and distribution of acquired data without software intervention.

A Modular Shared Home : Approaching affordable housing through sharing habits and modularityHeshmati, Elnaz January 2020 (has links)
The world’s population is increasing and every day, more people are coming to the cities. People are constantly relocating their houses for meeting their needs. As societies are growing and mobility in cities is raising, cities would face challenges like accommodating the population inexpensively and providing good quality of life and stable social and environmental infrastructure for them. However, due to the fixed regulated and unadaptable construction market, the architecture doesn’t meet the changing needs of inhabitants, therefore, every day the housing market is more unaffordable because of the high demand for housing developments, lands scarce, etc. Architecture needs to be flexible to adjust itself to the current market. Since most of the relocations and high demands for building new housing projects occur when built spaces fail to meet their occupants’ growing needs. This thesis tries to find an alternative framework for designing a flexible one whereby architecture is shaped by the user’s needs and can adjust itself in a long period. This thesis also works on designing an environment that responds to the social, economic, and environmental needs of residents as one united community. Therefore, it uses a shared living idea as an affordable alternative for making houses cheaper and creating a more stable social environment for inhabitants. The content of this thesis is categorized upon the following narrative. Firstly, this thesis is trying to deepen its understanding of the matter of shared living and its possible advantages and disadvantages for producing stable social and economical infrastructure. For this purpose, it analyses a notion of shared living and shared economy through studying successful case studies. Secondly, by studying and utilizing metabolic design criteria, the thesis will form an understanding of a more sustainable approach toward architecture and built environment to design an affordable housing system that provides high quality of life for inhabitants through responding to their needs. Thirdly, the thesis will frame its design strategy based on shared living perspective and metabolic design criteria. The thesis then will illustrate its steps and methods to achieve flexible architecture through designing its module, structure, and material. Lastly, it will discuss its findings on how the shared living approach and metabolic philosophy can aid architects to design more sustainable housing units that can meet their resident’s needs through a long period and make strong social, economic, and environmental infrastructure.

Emergency Modular ArchitectureFiume, Federico 25 January 2022 (has links)
In western countries, we are now living in a period of economic prosperity. This has undermined in a certain way the “world’s balances” in terms of social, economic and well-being equilibrium. In particular, well-being grows in parallel with its side effects: it allows the population to grow, which generates a rise of the resources need, with related risk of pauperization of the planet. The two main aspects of the current world’s living system crisis are climate change and widespread poverty, even and mainly in terms of lack of housing. Until some years ago one was the cause of the other: the building sector is the most energy consumer and CO2 emitter. Anyway, thanks to the contemporary knowledge and technology, this trend is inverted: it is now quite simple, and in several countries compulsory, to realize NZEB or ZEB constructions. However, especially in growing countries, the building industry is yet too slow to meet the contemporary changes which are consistently faster and pressing. The main theme is now to explore the possibility of generating a new building system which can be fast in construction, adaptable to changes and completely fade away. It must respond either to growing needs or to change during the time. All focusing on very low energy consumption in use and to production/disposal phases.

A Modular architecture for Cloud FederationPanjwani, Rizwan 21 December 2015 (has links)
Cloud Computing is the next step in the evolution of the Internet. It provides seemingly unlimited computation and storage resources by abstracting the networking, hardware, and software components underneath. However, individual cloud service providers do not have unlimited resources to offer. Some of the tasks demand computational resources that these individual cloud service providers can not fulfill themselves. In such cases, it would be optimal for these providers to borrow resources from each other. The process where different cloud service providers pool their resources is called Cloud Federation. There are many aspects to Cloud Federation such as access control and interoperability. Access control ensures that only the permitted users can access these federated resources. Interoperability enables the end-user to have a seamless experience when accessing resources on federated clouds. In this thesis, we detail our project named GENI-SAVI Federation, in which we federated the GENI and SAVI cloud systems. We focus on the access control portion of the project while also discussing the interoperability aspect of it. / Graduate / 0984 / panjwani.riz@gmail.com
