This study has as its general objective to investigate how the identity of the female character is constituted and represented, in the literary text “Minha vida de menina” (1942), by Helena Morley and also its respective adaptation to the movies “Vida de menina” (2004), directed by Helena Solberg. This study is divided in distinct parts: a) the critical fortune of the diary; b) the reading and interpretative analysis of “Minha vida de menina” (The Diary of Helena Morley); c) the reading and the analysis of the filmic work, the critical fortune of the production of the movie director; d) the comparative reading of the delimited corpus and the critical reflection on the different artistic modalities, taking into consideration the specificity of each work; e) the interview with the filmmaker Vera Brant. Starting from the concepts of the theory of the literature and of the studies turned to the adaptation, we propose an analysis of the diary and of the movie with the intention of observing the female character construction, since the diary had its genesis in the end of the 19th century and was published in 1942. In the beginning of the 21st century, Solberg concluded the adaptation for the movies of the “mineira” girl's reports. Both present a social context, historical and ideological of the Brazilian nation, in a period of great political changes, such as the Abolition of the Slavery (1888) and the...

Recchia, Cristal [UNESP] 08 August 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-06-11T19:25:23Z (GMT). / The study of the construction of the self-feminine is highlighted in two major literary works of the Brazilian literature, one from 1942, Minha vida de menina, by Helena Morley; and another from 1973, As meninas, by Lygia Fagundes Telles. On the one hand, Morley describes a peaceful everyday life in a small town in Minas Gerais state in the end of the 19th century and, on the other hand, a bursting, urban, cosmopolitan and politicized life is tackled by Lygia Fagundes Telles. Tele’s introspective narrative in As meninas probes the human soul and explores the character’s existencial inquietudes. Through Lia, Ana Clara, and Lorena, the author analyses pshyhological, religious, philosophical and moral problems related to urban life. The narrators’ differing points of view, one belonging to the 19th century and the other three to the 20th century, result in na appreciation of the changing social landscape occupied by women. In a surprising way, Morley is ahead of her time when she questions the feminine condition, this being the most outstanding aspect of her book. Minha vida de menina and As meninas present us with diverse and distinct women’s profiles that, while consolidating their feminine positions in the society they are inserted, allow us to put them in check. Distinct points of view make us familiar with the many facets of the historical time these women lived. The result is a new history, a history interpreted by a female point of view. Historical moments such as the republic proclamation, slavery abolition and the military dictatorship are recreated by each of these women. The temporal treatment and the representation of the female body are categories representative, in these books, of the birth and development of a new Brazilian women, a freer woman concerning their bodies and possibilities of expression. Each author builds time in their works in a particular... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
