Leadership in a Collaborative Mural with Adolescent GirlsJanuary 2014 (has links)
abstract: In contemporary society, educators teach adolescent students about the importance of developmental growth. This growth transitions into leadership, which prepares youth to collaborate with adults in a working environment. Additionally, youth mural programs generate leadership skills, yet not many art educators are using mural projects as a means to develop leadership in their students. This study explored the connection between working collaboratively on a mural project and the impact it had on leadership traits and skills in adolescent girls. I created an action research project in conjunction with Girl Scouts to encourage a group of girls while creating a mural. The mural project took place at an Arizona Girl Scout resident camp for a total of 11 days. Seven participants between the ages of 14-17 engaged in planning and executing a tile mosaic mural. The image they created remains as a permanent mural for the camp. Qualitative data includes responses to reflection questions and observations. Quantitative data consist of self-reported questionnaire scores before and after the mural project. The data is analyzed to understand if there was a difference in leadership traits and skills before and after instruction. Data is also used to see which leadership traits and/ or skills, if any, were impacted. Findings in the study reveal differences in leadership skills before and after instruction. However, there was not a significant impact to leadership traits. Specific skills that improved include those that involve communication and working with others. I conclude that adolescent girls became more aware of communicating effectively, adapting ideas to others, and working with others after they finished the mural. Additionally participants were more open to sharing thoughts near the end of the project than at the start. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Art 2014

This dissertation intends to analyse the mural paintings of Ângelo Lazzarini in the churches of Quarta Colônia, a region found in the geographical centre of Rio Grande do Sul. In this approach we mainly analyse the period between 1955 and 1963 which corresponds to the period when the painter carried out the majority of his murais in the region. The analysis makes use of data supplied by pari sh documents, interviews, local observation and photographic survey of the works, seeking to salvage the hi storical chronology of the execution of these murais as well as the techniques employed. The principal questions that directed these activities were: to what extent was this output infl uenced by the historical patterns of European iconography? VVhat are the technical processes that affected it? And, why do its forms seem to retain styl istic patte rns that could be considered to be removed from the historical period of their major manifestation? We try to answer these questions th rough identification of iconography, technique. and historical documents.

Renesanční nástěnná malba a sgrafito na fasádách domů v Prachaticích / Renaissance mural paintings and sgraffiti on the facades in town PrachaticeŽabková, Gabriela January 2011 (has links)
Práce zpracovává renesanční fasádní nástěnné malby a sgrafita v Prachaticích.

Tesis

Mistr Václav z Tridentu a vliv českého nástěnného malířství v oblasti Trentina kolem roku 1400 / Master Wenceslas of Trident and mural painting of Bohemian origin in the area of Trentino around 1400Chalupná, Romana January 2013 (has links)
- Master Wenceslas of Trident and mural painting of Bohemian origin in area of Trentino around 1400 This thesis primarily deals with cycles of mural painting associated with so called Master Wenceslas of Trento. This painter has been probably trained in Bohemia, but is attested for the first time at the court of Prince-Bishop of Trento, George of Liechtenstein. The first chapter analyses the current state of research. The history of the Trentino area follows. This part mainly focuses on political relations with Bohemia (2.3) and especially George of Liechtenstein, originally from Moravia (2.4). The following chapters describe individual cycles of painting - the frescoes in Eagl Tower on the castle Buonconsiglio of Trento, the cycle of mural painting in the cemetery chapel in Rifiano, the decoration of the church of St. Charles in Pergine, one scene in the passage under the tower of Meranos Parish Church, and the painting in village Termeno. The analyses of historical sources (8.1) as well as the comparison of each cycle led to the conclusion that the painter was the leader of a court workshop of Bishop George of Liechtenstein, which broke up in 1407. Then Wenceslas left to Merano. Wenceslas' personal style has evident signs of his training in Bohemia during the 70's of the 14th century, his contact...

Devotional Overdoors in Medieval and Renaissance ItalyMarzullo, Francesca January 2020 (has links)
This dissertation offers a wide-ranging examination of the half-length sacred figure over the door in medieval and early Renaissance Italian art. Drawing on a wealth of visual material that has attracted little attention among scholars, it argues that such images played a vital role in the religious lives of their beholders, transforming doorways into sites of devotional experience both within and beyond the church. Depicted incompletely, the holy body joined with the threshold below it to form a synthetic, composite image, one that invited the imaginative and corporeal participation of the viewer.
This project employs various lenses to interpret the meaning and function of works about which scant written documentation comes down to us. In addition to considering scriptural metaphor and exegetical thought regarding the significance of doors, it explores the relationship of overdoor frescoes, mosaics, and reliefs to sacred icon panels, suggesting that the former might be recognized as wall icons, possessive of a heightened devotional appeal. It also uses overdoor images to illuminate broader spiritual and artistic concerns, including the nature of passage to the Christian afterlife, and the interaction between picture and frame, a topic central to Renaissance illusionism. Serving as an introduction to an important yet overlooked aspect of Italian visual culture, this text provides a conceptual framework for understanding a vast corpus of images that were essential to everyday piety, and that inflect our view of familiar art historical narratives.
