The General Music Course in the Secondary School: A Content Analysis of Selected Curricular Sources

Lawrence, David Lee 12 1900 (has links)
The study described through content analysis the general music course in the secondary school as perceived in selected curricular sources from the 1960's and 1970's. As various writers of curricular sources developed their own content and methodologies, a vast amount of data became available which seemed unmanageable because of the particular philosophical goals chosen for the course. The study organized in a systematic manner the content and methodologies of the.course by means of eighteen categories. Categories of high frequency inclusion in the general music sources were shown to be the elements of music, music vocabulary as a specific area for learning, the predominant choice of classical Western/art music, the use of listening and creative activities and the discussion of psychological learning principles.

The Development of a Curriculum for the Teaching of Dance Music at a College Level

Hall, Gene, 1913- 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to set forth certain principals or rules, Which, if adhered to, will be a beginning in the training of the young musician who would make the playing of dance music his profession. Be it understood that this is only an embryonic work and as such it should not be considered a final and irrevocable treatise on this topic. Actual work and development in this field will probably see many of the practices recommended herein relegated to a less important stage while items not mentioned, or perhaps mentioned and treated without undue stress, may come to the foreground of importance. It is hoped that this work will help in paving the way for a sincere and unprejudiced program of training for the young dance musician. However, before venturing into any discussion concerning dance music, it is necessary to have a clear understanding as to what fields of music are included in the term dance music.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Flavia Albano de Lima.pdf: 58523197 bytes, checksum: 8acc848649032154e8acf972840779b1 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-04-27 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This research was born from reflections that are related to the teaching of music, to its practice, to interdisciplinarity applied to Education and, more specifically, to that employed in undergraduate courses of Music in Brazil. Ambiguity was thought as a metaphor for this research, quite present in the professional trajectory of the ones Who wish to act both in the teaching ofmusic and in musical performance. The issues that have led to its implementation have given rise to the following issues: 1- How to reconcile the musical education received in the undergraduate courses of music that, in the great majority of cases, contemplate subjects directed to the learning of the musical language (pedagogical technicism), with a professional performance that extends not only for the performance but for the teaching? 2- Considering the courses and curricular bases for undergraduate courses in music, how to adapt the curricula ofthese courses in music to an interdisciplinary pedagogy, which would be able to attend, on equal terms, both the exercise ofteaching and the learning ofthe musical language? These issues have motivated the need to review the researcher's artistic performance, the musical education she has obtained and her role as coordinator and music teacher in the Music Education Course at "Grupo Educacional UNIESP". The aim of this research is focused on the Music Licensing Courses, in order to evaluate its mnction and usefulness for society and education. In order to do so, the regulations that govern these courses were analysed and testimonials from teachers were evaluated. The literature review has included texts by researchers from Education, Music Education and Interdisciplinarity. This research brings to the Academy, reflections on the importance of adopting thoughts and interdisciplinary measures in these courses as a possibility to assist music teachers both in their daily activities and in the research they produce, as well as remodeling their Educational standards. The theoretical line followed was that of a case study, with a visible bibliographical and documentary component. In addition to the Introduction and Final Considerations the thesis presents five chapters containing theoretical framework, current regulations in Education, issues on the teaching of Undergraduate courses in Music, the concept of curriculum, Interdisciplinarity, and a detailed analysis of the Undergraduate Music Course of "Grupo Educacional UNIESP / Esta pesquisa nasce de reflexões que intermedeiam o ensino musical, a prática musical, a interdisciplinaridade aplicada à Educação e, mais especificamente, aquela empregada nos Cursos de Licenciatura em Música no Brasil.
