The effectiveness of MOOCs through users\' experience. / A efetividade dos MOOCs através da experiência dos usuários.

MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) is an emergent technology in education, a natural evolution of e-learning and it shows a disruptive way to learn. Although, many studies have focused on e-learning evolution, they ignore particularities of massive courses, which include the connectivity, evaluation process, virtual communities, economic and cultural impacts and other characteristics. This study sought to investigate the determinants of satisfaction and continuance of use in MOOC courses from the perspective of students. Through an online survey, 890 users of the most popular MOOC platforms made a self-evaluation of the performance and adherence to tools available in the courses. To generate a theoretical model, it is used a bibliometric and systematic review with meta-analysis, as well as methods of measurement scales, including Item Response Theory, random forest, common method variance and factorial analysis. The model was validated through the structural equation modeling. Among the main results, it is highlighted that the quality, usability and value impact on the performance of the users in the courses. In addition to performance, using interactivity and collaborative learning resources generates greater adherence of users to the teaching format of MOOCs. Both performance and adherence to MOOCs generate more satisfaction and a consequent desire to continue completing the courses on the teaching platforms. In addition, user engagement is crucial to generating satisfaction. The study contributes to the advancement and maturation of research on the theme, mainly at the empirical level and converging to the movement of MOOCs as a business model headed by universities. In the methodological field, the study contributes with the literature of quantitative methods for exploring emerging methods at measurement scales and complementing traditional methods. The originality of the study is based on the application of the particularities of the MOOCs in a context of continuance intention, in the exploitation of the studies on e-learning, in the evaluation of variables as payment and in the moderating effect of the engagement. / O MOOC (Curso Online Aberto e Massivo) é uma tecnologia emergente em educação, uma evolução natural do e-learning e que apresenta uma forma disruptiva de ensino. Apesar disso, muitos estudos que focam na evolução do e-learning, ignoram as particularidades dos cursos massivos, que inclui a conectividade, o processo de avaliação, as comunidades virtuais, os impactos culturais e econômicos, entre outros. Este estudo buscou investigar as determinantes da satisfação e da continuidade uso em cursos MOOCs na perspectiva dos estudantes. Através de um survey online, 890 usuários das plataformas mais populares em MOOCs fizeram uma auto-avaliação sobre a performance e o uso de ferramentas utilizadas nos cursos. El presente proyecto, llamado “E-Classes”, es un negocio desarrollado de manera completamente virtual, de tal forma que podamos adaptarnos a las limitaciones existentes en el mercado dada la coyuntura actual que se vive a nivel global por la propagación del COVID-19. Nuestro modelo de negocio ofrece al público la posibilidad de tomar una amplia variedad de cursos y talleres que les permitan continuar desarrollando diversas habilidades, principalmente en el área artística, sin la necesidad de salir del hogar. Se identificó una necesidad bastante recurrente, la cual nos permitió dirigir nuestro proyecto correctamente. Las personas se encuentran buscando distintas formas de entretenerse y relajarse dentro de la seguridad de su hogar. Asimismo, las personas al contar con mayor tiempo libre están buscando desarrollar nuevas habilidades o reforzar las que ya poseían. “E-Classes” está dirigido a hombres y mujeres jóvenes tanto en etapa escolar como universitaria, pertenecientes al nivel socioeconómico A, B y C de las zonas 7 y 8 de la ciudad de Lima. En dichas zonas se encuentran comprendidos los distritos de Barranco, Chorrillos, La Molina, Miraflores, San Borja, San Isidro, San Juan de Miraflores, San Miguel, Santiago de Surco y Surquillo. Para la elaboración del trabajo de investigación se analizaron diversos factores internos y externos dentro del mercado. Asimismo, se emplearon diversas estrategias operativas y de marketing para lograr poner en marcha el negocio adecuadamente durante los primeros años de operación. Finalmente, se elaboró en plan financiero del proyecto lograr sustentar correctamente la viabilidad de nuestro modelo de negocio. / The present project, called “E-Classes”, is a business developed in a completely virtual way, in such a way that we can adapt to the existing limitations in the market given the current situation that is experienced globally by the spread of COVID-19. Our business model offers the public the possibility of taking a wide variety of courses and workshops that allow them to continue developing diverse skills, mainly in the artistic area, without the need to leave home. A fairly recurring need was identified, which allowed us to direct our project correctly. People find themselves looking for different ways to entertain and relax within the safety of their home. Likewise, people with more free time are looking to develop new skills or reinforce those they already had. "E-Classes" is aimed at young men and women both in school and university stage, belonging to socioeconomic level A, B and C of zones 7 and 8 of the city of Lima. These areas include the districts of Barranco, Chorrillos, La Molina, Miraflores, San Borja, San Isidro, San Juan de Miraflores, San Miguel, Santiago de Surco and Surquillo. For the preparation of this research work, various internal and external factors within the market were analyzed. In addition, various operational and marketing strategies were used to successfully launch the business during the first years of operation. [pt] Conduzimos uma pesquisa de campo a partir de um curso online aberto e massivo (MOOC), realizado no último trimestre de 2017, utilizando o ambiente virtual de aprendizagem da PUC-Rio. A partir da experiência com este curso, estudamos a dinâmica de participação dos alunos nas atividades pedagógicas e os efeitos no desempenho, baseados em exames de avaliação. Também estudamos a interação entre os participantes do curso a partir dos fóruns de discussão com o apoio de um mediador. Um grupo de controle sem a participação do mediador foi criado, para viabilizar um estudo comparativo de resultados. Além disso, ampliamos o estudo para avaliar também possíveis efeitos do mediador no comportamento dos alunos nas atividades didáticas do curso. Ao final traçamos um perfil dos alunos do curso e realizamos comparações com cursos MOOC realizados por outras instituições de ensino. / [en] We conducted a field study from a massive open online course (MOOC), held in the last quarter of 2017, using PUC-Rio s virtual learning platform. From the experience with this course, we studied the dynamics of students participation on the course activities and the effects on performance in the evaluation. We also studied the interaction between course participants on discussion forums with the support of a mediator. A control group without the participation of the mediator was created, to make feasible a comparative study of results. In addition, we extended the study to evaluate possible mediator effects on student behavior in other course activities. At the end we draw a profile of the students of the course and compared with MOOC courses conducted by other educational institutions.

La coyuntura actual, el virus COVID-19, ha limitado el acceso presencial a los centros de estudios a miles de personas en el último año impulsando la digitalización. Hispalogue nace como respuesta al exponencial crecimiento de la transformación digital en el sector de enseñanza de idiomas y permite seguir aprendiendo sin salir de casa. Hispalogue es un negocio 100% online que opera desde Perú y puede dirigirse desde cualquier parte del mundo. Cuenta con un equipo altamente calificado y con docentes hablantes nativos del idioma español y con amplia experiencia en metodología comunicativa para la enseñanza de idiomas. El propósito de este proyecto es presentar un nuevo e innovador modelo de negocio para lograr escalabilidad en el tiempo. Debido a la pandemia del Covid-19, casi todos los aspectos de la educación han cambiado a la vez. Hoy en día, el concepto de aula está sentado detrás de una pantalla de computadora en casa, sin embargo, muchas personas vieron esto como una oportunidad para tomar cursos en línea y aumentar sus conocimientos profesionales. Por lo tanto, el modelo de negocio propuesto es una escuela de idiomas en línea, donde los estudiantes mejorarían sus habilidades de comunicación oral en inglés, alemán, portugués o español a través de cursos flexibles de conversación con hablantes nativos o altamente avanzados. Nuestro principal público objetivo son hombres y mujeres de 18 a 35 años, que quieran mejorar sus habilidades para hablar en un segundo idioma previamente aprendido. Para llegar al público objetivo de manera más eficaz, las estrategias se centrarán en plataformas de redes sociales como Instagram y Facebook, y en el sitio web del proyecto. Además, se validó el potencial del proyecto a través de diferentes experimentos con usuarios potenciales. Los resultados obtenidos muestran una respuesta positiva del mercado objetivo debido a la flexibilidad del servicio y el método de enseñanza. / The purpose of this project is to present a new and innovative business model to achieve scalability through time. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic almost every aspect of education has changed at once. Nowadays the concept of classroom is sitting behind a computer screen at home. However many people saw this as an opportunity to take online courses to increase their profesional knowledge. Therefore the proposed business model is an online language school, where the students would improve their oral communication skills at english, german, portuguese or spanish through flexible courses of speaking with native or highly advanced speakers. Our main target audience are men and women from 18 to 35 years old, who want to improve their speaking skills in a second language previously learned. To reach the target audience more effectively the strategies will be focus on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, and on the website of the project. In addition, the potencial of the project was validated through different experiments with potencial users. La educación a distancia o e-learning ha tomado mayor notoriedad durante los últimos años y se ha potenciado aún más gracias a la tecnología dejando a lado la educación tradicional. Ello ha permitido que muchas personas se inscriban en un curso sin importar las barreras de espacio y tiempo, por lo cual, muchos jóvenes y adultos puedan trabajar y potenciar sus conocimientos otorgándoles la facultad de crecer dentro de sus empresas en la cual laboran e incluso emprender nuevos negocios. En este contexto, la investigación tiene como objetivo estudiar la satisfacción que presentan los jóvenes dentro de las comunidades virtuales a base de la experiencia, expectativa y usabilidad que tienen sobre los cursos e-learning. El cual se realizará mediante un estudio de tipo correlacional, con un enfoque cuantitativo y de carácter concluyente, la cual se tomará como muestra a 400 estudiantes limeños que se hayan inscrito por lo menos en 1 curso virtual. / Distance education or e-learning has gained greater notoriety in recent years and has been further enhanced thanks to technology, leaving aside traditional education. This has allowed many people to enroll in a course regardless of the barriers of space and time, for which many young people and adults can work and enhance their knowledge, giving them the ability to grow within their companies in which they work and even undertake new business. In this context, the research aims to study the satisfaction that young people present within virtual communities based on the experience, expectation and usability that they have on e-learning courses. El objetivo de la idea de negocio detrás de Reeco es otorgar un reconocimiento a los jóvenes y las familias peruanas que van tomando más conciencia sobre el cuidado del medio ambiente. Este proyecto genera valor en ellos porque genera contenido educativo de cursos artísticos y creativos mediante el uso de una plataforma online, con el fin de que se nutran de conocimientos como ciudadanos responsables con su entorno. Este trabajo será posible al tener como aliados estratégicos a empresas recicladores. La idea nació debido a que en estos últimos años ha habido un proceso de transformación digital en el que ha habido digitalización del comportamiento educativo de los usuarios. En adición a esto contamos con un incremento en la concientización del cuidado del medio ambiente. Es así como se forma Reeco, con la misión de cubrir estos cambios en el comportamiento y en las necesidades de la población. Bajo la perspectiva financiera del proyecto, se encuentra siendo rentable contando con un Valor Actual Neto (VAN) de 104 328 soles, una TIR de 23,39 % mayor al WACC (17, 49 %) y una PRD de menos de 5 años (4 años y 7 meses aproximadamente). / The objective of the business idea behind Reeco is to give recognition to the Peruvian youth and families locally who are becoming more conscious about the care for the environment each time. This project seeks to create value for them because it generates educational content consisting of mostly artistic and creative courses using an online platform, so that they are nurtured with knowledge as responsible citizens with their environment. These efforts are possible thanks to the forces joined with recycling enterprises. This idea was born because in recent years there has been a process of digital transformation in which there has been digitization of the educational behavior of users. In addition to this, we have an increase in awareness of caring for the environment. That is how Reeco takes place, with the mission of covering these changes in behavior and in the needs of the population. De esta manera, da la opción a los jóvenes y adultos a potenciar sus conocimientos, permitiéndoles crecer profesionalmente en el rubro en el que se desarrollen trabajando. De esta manera, la investigación tiene como objetivo estudiar los factores de los cursos online que generan en el usuario satisfacción y engagement respecto al curso. Esto se llevará a cabo mediante investigaciones relevantes, empleando métodos cuantitativos y se utilizará una muestra de 400 estudiantes que hayan llevado cursos online durante los últimos dos años. / Currently, online learning represents a challenge when it comes to finding new dynamics and ways of transmitting knowledge.
