Added title page in English: Dialectics and harmony in the concepts of history and messianism of Rav Kook. / This essay will attempt to examine Rav Kook's corpus of thought from the viewpoint of its systems of methodological foundations: dialectic and harmonistic. These two elements are the dominant components of his thought, both from the methodological and ontological aspects. As to the harmonistic element, it should be noted that Rav Kook's entire corpus of thought is stamped with the idea of monistic unity, and he believes in the unity of existence from the point of view of ontological monism. The monism is inherent even in the center of the theoretical method, or in the words of Rav Kook: "The various thoughts actually don't contradict each other, everything is but a unitary revelation which appears in different sparks".

A Whiteheadian Interpretation of the Zoharic Creation Story

This dissertation presents a Whiteheadian interpretation of the notions of mind, immanence and process as they are addressed in the Zohar. According to many scholars, this kabbalistic creation story as portrayed in the Zohar is a reaction to the earlier rabbinic concept of God qua creator, which emphasized divine transcendence over divine immanence. The medieval Jewish philosophers, particularly Maimonides influenced by Aristotle, placed particular emphasis on divine transcendence, seeing a radical separation between Creator and creation. With this in mind, these scholars claim that one of the goals of the Zohar’s creation story was to emphasize God’s immanence within creation. Similar to the Zohar, the process metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead and his followers was reacting to the substance metaphysics that had dominated Western philosophy as far back as ancient Greek thought. Whitehead adopts a very similar narrative to that of the Zohar. First there is mind containing all the eternal objects which serve as potential for the creation (God’s primordial nature). Mind becomes immanent in all actual occasions through prehension (God’s consequent nature). Finally God becomes “the lure” (to use Whitehead’s phrase) in the ongoing process of nature (God as superject). In this narrative, God is not the static being, the unmoved mover as discussed by Aristotle, but rather, is portrayed as a dynamic becoming, a God of process. Due to these significant similarities between Whitehead’s process philosophy and the Zohar with regard to the immanence of God and the process of creation, it is worthwhile to attempt a process interpretation of the kabbalistic creation story. The first part of this dissertation is entitled Philosophical Foundations, focusing on the intellectual framework of this study of the Zohar. The second part is entitled Creating a Narrative, looking at the text of the Zohar through the lens of Whitehead’s metaphysics. In order to accomplish this goal, Franz Kafka’s biography is presented, to allow his “personality enclosed by a glass wall” to be accurately exposed. Kafka’s life and work are so inextricably combined that it would not be possible to appropriately enlighten his literature without previously understanding his conflicting relationship with parents and girlfriends, as well as his difficulties with work – done with anxiety and discouragement – and with Judaism, basis of his family formation. Following this, this study comprehends analytical multiple visions, emphasizing the hermeneutic polissemy and difficulties of univocally understanding Kafka, without taking into consideration his “literature astonishment”, responsible for making him one of the authors that were mostly read and commented during XX and XXI centuries. Essential scope of the third session is offering a critical view about the efforts to interpret his writings under the religious mystic harness. For this, “Max Brod case” will be discussed and the hypothesis brought by the religions historian Gershom Scholem who presented Kafka as a heretic cabalist. Last but not least, textual hermeneutics will be made (Die Verwandlung, Der Prozess, Der Brau and Forschungen Eines Hund) under cabalistic perspective, trying to uncover Deus Absconditus who is shown in Kafka’s literature with the diversity of chromatic and sonorous tones as a small light shining in the dark / Este estudo é dedicado ao conhecimento da obra do escritor Franz Kafka, sob a égide da interpretação religiosa-mística. Para que logre esse intento, apresenta a biografia de Franz Kafka, a fim de desvelar acuradamente a sua “personalidade encerrada por uma parede de vidro”. Em Kafka, vida e obra se misturam inextricavelmente, de tal maneira que não se pode esclarecer convenientemente a sua literatura sem antes saber de sua relação conflituosa com os pais, com as namoradas, as suas dificuldades concernentes ao trabalho – realizado sob ansiedade e desalento – e com o judaísmo, constitutivo de sua formação familiar. A seguir, este trabalho estuda as multivisões analíticas, sublinhando a polissemia hermenêutica e as dificuldades de se compreender Kafka de maneira unívoca, isto é, sem levar em consideração o “assombro de sua literatura”, responsável por transformá-lo num dos autores mais lidos e comentados no deambular dos séculos XX e XXI. A terceira sessão tem como escopo fundamental oferecer um olhar crítico sobre as tentativas de interpretar os escritos sob o jaez místico-religioso. Para tanto, discute-se o “caso Max Brod” e a hipótese aventada pelo historiador das religiões Gershom Scholem, segundo a qual teria sido Kafka um cabalista herético. Finalmente, faz-se a hermenêutica textual (O Covil, A Metamorfose, O Processo e Investigações sobre um Cão) sob o ponto de vista cabalístico, ou seja, tentando deslindar o Deus Absconditus que, na diversidade de tons cromáticos e sonoros, incide na obra de Kafka como pequena luz brilhando nas trevas
