Haigui's predicament in the job market : is there opportunity at the end of the tunnel?

Liu, Gefei, active 21st century 03 October 2014 (has links)
Driven by the desire for a bright future and a successful career, many young people in China are embarking on overseas odysseys to pursue higher education degrees in order to get decent jobs when they return to China. Those people who are educated abroad and come back with higher education diplomas are called "Haigui" in Chinese. Although they excel in their fields and are capable of the occupations that they dream of, most of them fail to get the jobs they so crave because of reasons beyond their control, such as the slump of the job market, unfair parental privilege, and the high density of Haigui in large cities. This story depicts the job-hunting experiences of four characters -- Ye, Zhang, Erin and Wu. (They requested not to use their real names for privacy concerns.) Their accounts showcase different facets of why Haigui employment in China is so dire. Until the job market in China improves and stops favoring nepotism, the number of Haigui will continue to rise as more and more Chinese students leave the country in search of better futures. / text

Mellenius, Harriet January 2008 (has links)

This paper studies the impact of market orientation strategy on brand awareness. Zara, a Spanish leading fashion retailer and an example of a brand using this strategy, is compared to three other multinational brands operating in Stockholm, Sweden, namely Topshop, Mango and United Colours of Benetton. The latter brands are known to use advertising to create brand awareness.

Fashion magazine attention was used as a measure of brand awareness. Data on the brand awareness was gathered by browsing three leading Swedish fashion magazines – Elle, Glamour and Damernas Värld – and the fashion section of the biggest Swedish tabloid, Aftonbladet.

It was found that market orientation can compete with advertising as a marketing strategy to create brand awareness, but only in part of the market segment. This was concluded from the fact that Zara was featured in some of the magazines, but not all of them.

Market Benefit Assessment of Basslink in the Australian National Electricity Market

Malla, Kalyan January 2012 (has links)
Economic benefit assessment has become an integral requirement of transmission system planning in the context of electricity market deregulation around the world. In a deregulated electricity market, not only does transmission planning have to address technical requirements but also has to consider commercial issues linked to an electricity market. One of the prime goals of transmission planning is to ensure a fair distribution of economic benefits among the market participants (all those who produce, transmit and consume). These economic benefits attributable to a transmission interconnection generally appear as benefits to an electricity market and are referred to as market benefits. Even from a regulatory perspective, assessment of market benefits of a transmission interconnection is an essential requirement to ascertain its economic value. The market benefit assessment of a transmission interconnector presented in this thesis is specific to the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) consistent with the regulatory framework in the NEM. This thesis develops a market benefit assessment framework in accordance with Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) to assess the economic significance of Basslink, one of six inter-regional transmission interconnectors in the Australian NEM. A long-term market benefit modelling framework comprising least cost modelling (LCM) and time sequential modelling (TSM) is developed and applied to undertake modelling of long term market benefits. PLEXOS, a leading power market modelling software is used for this purpose. Economic analysis concludes that the presence of Basslink is of significant economic value in terms of market benefits for the ranges of market development scenarios (MDS) studied.
