Magic carpet : digital interpretation of traditional tessellation patternsJamali Firouzabadi, Farshad 11 1900 (has links)
Contemporary architecture has failed to engage the rich culture of planar and spatial
transformations of historical Muslim architecture, often relegating it to a form of naive pastiche
or, at best, to the realm of historical reconstruction. In this project we make use of current digital
technologies in an attempt to revisit and reinterpret, in modern terms, the geometric structure of
patterns embedded in the historic Islamic architecture of Iran. The original contribution of this
project lies in extending traditional two dimensional tiling patterns into a dynamic three
dimensional state with the help of computational tools. The analogy to the classical Persian
carpet as well as mobile character of design can also be seen as original. The notion of
‘transparency’ and ‘dynamism’ are interpreted using Autodesk’s Maya and Bentley’s Generative
Components software. This report illustrates initial explorations and outlines future possibilities.
In the past architects of the country were responsible for making the enclosure heaven-like
while it was carpet weavers’ job to make the floor heaven-like. In this project as a symbolic
approach, carpet and weaving becomes both the enclosure and the floor to define both floor
and roof and symbolize the new approach through which we as architects use other disciplines
and new tools such as new software to learn and shape the space and discover new vocabulary
for a contemporary and local architecture for Iran.

Styrningsrationalitet i svenska kommuner - en fråga om ideologi? : En komparativ studie om sambandet mellan ideologi och styrningsrationalitetAlexandersson (Weimers), Jenny January 2012 (has links)
This paper is about if municipal council's ideology affect steering in the municipalities of Vellinge and Fagertsa. Vellinge has for a long time been governed by Sweden's conservative party Moderaterna. Fagersta has for a long time been governed by Sweden's left party Vänsterpartiet. The main question of the paper to be answered is as follows: Is there a relation between the steering in municipalities and the ideology of the governing parties? The hypothesis is that there is a connection between what ideology the party that governs has and how the municipalities are being governed. The question is being answered by an idea analysis. Two ideal types are being used to compare the two steering alternatives New Puplic Management and Traditional Bureucracy with the two municipalities. The conclusion is that there is a connection though it is rather weak. It is also clear that the steering is being affected not only by the governing parties ideology but also by the state. This explanation is supported by the theory employed in the paper. Keywords: Styrningsrationalitet, New Public Management, Traditional Bureucracy, Kommuner

The teachings of the bear clan : as told by Saulteaux elder Danny MusquaRelland, Michael Roger 03 July 2007 (has links)
The Saulteaux Nation is comprised of 7 major clans the larger of which is the Bear Clan. This thesis examines the holistic philosophy of the Saulteaux world view and the oral teachings of the Bear Clan. The teachings, which emphasize the nature of healing and personal growth, were related by Elder Danny Musqua to myself from within the context of traditional Bear Clan ceremonies and practices. This thesis documents my journey to understand these teachings and in the process to arrive at a deeper understanding of self. This is done within the context of Bear Clan culture and within the context of my relationship with Elder Danny Musqua. This thesis relates my struggle to make meaning of these teachings on a personal level and how these teachings have affected my life.

Narrative Inquiry is the methodology employed in this study. Through a reliance on narrative as the research methodology, the oral tradition of the Bear Clan and its traditional methods of knowledge transmission are honoured. The methodology utilized in this study is relatively unstructured in that no formal questioning process is utilized. Instead, it relies upon the relationship between the Elder/teacher and the son/learner in which to transmit knowledge. This process stresses the relationship between Danny and myself and emphasizes trust and respect as important elements of learning. In this relationship, knowledge was transmitted through participation in the sweatlodge, the learning lodge and through conversations with Danny. This approach to research respected the implicit nature of the oral tradition and allowed for me to make meaning of Danny's teachings in their original context and interpret them at a level appropriate for my own personal development.

This thesis struggles to define traditional healing and the role that the healer, the one oppressed by illness and the spiritual realm play in the healing process. This thesis may prove valuable in educating and informing those who do not have an understanding of concepts of First Nations' healing. It may also serve as an invitation to all people, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, to expand their notions of healing or to search out a similar path in life.

A Study of Commercializing Nanotechnology in the Traditional Industry in TaiwanTsou, Hsin-I 19 June 2003 (has links)
Compared to China and southeast Asian countries, corporations of traditional industry in Taiwan are more and more uncompetitive in terms of cost of human and manufacture. The application of nanotechnology is an opportunity that can adds product value and upgrade industry in the traditional industry in Taiwan. Traditional industry corporations face stable environment and long technology life and manufacture mainly, so they have less need for new technology and are lacking in experience of commercializing technology.
The appearance of nanotechnology will affect Taiwan traditional industry¡¦s competitive advantage and make it without other choice but to face the emerging technology. Corporations must combine nanotechnology with its domain technology. Because it is different from the general process of commercializing technology adapted to the used technology, traditional industry corporations¡¦ processing the technology commercialization will face different problems and need different help.
The methodology of this research includes case study, secondary data collection approaches, and interviews of corporate managers and related experts. Then we integrate the three parts of the process of technology commercialization, the plan of National Science and Technology Program for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for traditional industry, and Industrial Technology Research Institute¡¦s (ITRI) guidance and promotion project into the model of nanotechnology commercialization of traditional industry in Taiwan.
In this research, we find that government must actively facilitate nano-industry cluster, process nano-fundamental research and train people of talent to build a complete nano-industry environment. In the early stage of technology commercialization, the key point is how to bring in nanotechnology. The traditional industry corporations must cooperate with the modifiers and connectors, process technology transfer and then combine nanotechnology and their domain technology together. Finally, they could introduce their new products to the market.
