Objective: To verify the prevalence of risk factors(RF) of metabolic syndrome(MS) in obese children and adolescents. Methods: A transversal study was performed with 73 obese children and adolescents (31 male and 42 female), aged six to 16 years (10,9±3,1years), all participants of the project “Super-Ação”, developed at UNESP – Campus of Presidente Prudente. The characterization of RF for SM was made according to the recommendations of I Diretriz de Prevenção da Aterosclerose na Infância e na Adolescência (2005). Total body and trunk fat, glicemy, total cholesterol and triglicerydes, systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure, were measured. For statistical analysis, average and standard deviation of all variables of the sample were calculated. For each RF the frequency of those who presented values above of the recommendations, was calculated. It was also calculated the frequency of individuals who presented more than one RF for MS. The software SPSS version 10.0.
