Žena v českém tradičním obrazu světa. Etnolingvistická studie / The Woman in the Czech Traditional Worldview The Ethnolinguistic Study

Christou, Anna January 2019 (has links)
The dissertation aims at the analysis of the traditional linguistic worldview of the woman in Czech. Theoretically and methodologically, the dissertation follows from the modern Polish ethnolinguistics, i.e. a discipline focusing on the studies of language in relation to culture, which uses the term of "linguistic worldview", referring specifically to the ways in which the values and experience of the particular society have been written into its language. The aim of the dissertation is to reconstruct the image (the stereotype) of the woman in Czech, i.e. to reveal the structure of stereotypical characteristics related to the woman in the language and the culture. The attention was paid primarily to the traditional image, built in the centuries before the dramatic changes of the society and the women's role in modern times. The analysis of the Czech vocabulary (including phraseology) and of the traditional songs lyrics, minor folklore genres as well as classical Czech literature has led to the reveal and subsequent characterization of four specific modes of the linguistic worldview of the woman, divided according to the three aspects (profiles) - the age, the appearance and the social role - as the young girl (maiden), the wife, the mother and the old woman. Each of them involves the general as...

Zelené světnice a malba v profánních prostorech na konci středověku / Green Chambers and Mural Painting in Secular Spaces at the End of the Middle Ages

Dienstbier, Jan January 2018 (has links)
The thesis presents a detailed analysis of the late medieval murals in the so-called 'green chamber' of Žirovnice Castle and similar late-medieval mural paintings. Compared to the earlier literature the study focuses on the interrelations between the scenes depicted in the 'green chamber': the Judgement of Paris, Judith beheading Holofernes, the exemplum An Old Woman Is Worse than the Devil as well as an image which was previously described as the Judgement of Solomon (perhaps rather a parable about legitimate and illegitimate progeny). They are compared with other depictions of these themes and their treatment in contemporary literature. These comparisons link them with the popular concept of a critique of the power of women (Weibermacht). In Žirovnice, and similarly elsewhere, this concept was connected to the allegory of the transcience of love and the ephemeral nature of the world overall. The ostensible genre depictions of the hunt and tournament can be interpreted in this sense as well. This is demonstrated by numerous details subverting the meaning of these images. The study then compares Žirovnice to other similar murals in Bohemia and addresses the questions of their function as well as of the art-historical phenomenon of 'green chambers' as various secular murals are called following the...

Portraits de la « vieille femme » : les représentations de la vieillesse féminine dans le journal La Presse (1960-2010)

Bourgeois Racine, Chanaelle 12 1900 (has links)
This master’s thesis aims to trace the evolution of representations of old age among women in the newspaper La Presse from 1960 to 2010. Based on a mixed analysis of different types of articles in the newspaper, we measured the effects of the socio-historical context as well as the context of the column on the "positive", "negative" and "neutral" representations of old age for women. The main results show that, regardless of the time period and the column, the aging body is thought to be a common obstacle to the radiance of female old age. We then identify 13 ideal-typical portraits of female old age, as portrayed in these La Presse articles, which allow us to understand their evolution over the decades, as well as the influence of the journalistic rubric on these representations.
