Bakgrund: I takt med det normala åldrandet försämras kroppens funktion, vilket gör att flera äldre behöver hjälp och stöd med sin dagliga omvårdnad såsom munvård. Studier har visat att munvård hos äldre på särskilt boende är ofta bristfällig, med munhälsoproblem till följd, därför behöver kunskap och attityd kring munhälsa sammanställas. Syfte: Syftet med denna litteraturöversikt är att sammanställa vårdpersonalens kunskap och attityd kring munhälsa på särskilt boende för äldre samt vilka åtgärder som anges kring förbättring av munvård. Metod: Studien genomfördes som en litteraturöversikt. Resultatet är baserad på 15 vetenskapliga artiklar varav n=8 kvantitativ och n=7 kvalitativ. Artikelsökning ansats har genomförts i databaser CINAHL och PubMed. Resultat: Resultatet i denna litteraturöversikt visade kunskapsbrist i munvård bland vårdpersonal samt faktorer som påverkar vårdpersonalens attityd av att utföra god munvård. Munvård utbildningsprogram och munvårdsbedömning visade förbättringar i vårdtagarens munstatus samt ökad vårdpersonalens kunskap kring munvård. Slutsats: Vårdpersonalens kunskap och attityd till munvård var de största bidragande faktorerna till att munvård inte utförs effektivt. Däremot har munvårdsutbildning visat positivt resultat hos vårdtagaren / Background: The normal aging process deteriorates the body`s function, which means that more elderly people need help and support with their daily care such as oral care. Studies have shown that oral care for elderly people in nursing homes is often inadequate, and always result to oral health problems. Because of this, knowledge and attitudes regarding oral health need to be compiled. Aim: The aim of this literature review is to compile nursing staffs` knowledge and attitude towards oral health in nursing homes and what measures have been taken regarding improvement of oral care. Materials and methods: This study was carried out as a literature review. The result is based on a total of 15 scientific articles, n=8 quantitative and n=7 qualitative. These articles were collected from databases CINAHL and PubMed. Results: The results in this study revealed lack of knowledge in oral care among nursing staff in nursing homes and factors affecting nursing staffs' attitudes towards performing good oral care. Educational programs and oral assessment showed significant improvements in the care residents oral status and increased nursing staff's knowledge in oral care. Conclusion: Nursing staffs’ knowledge and attitude to oral care were the main contributing factors to the fact that the oral care was not performed efficiently. On the other hand, oral care education has shown positive improvements in care residents.
