Sizilio, Fernando Nery January 2000 (has links)
This work had as objective to characterize the influence of the federal government in the organizational structure, the type of predominant rationality and the process of decision making of the Universidade para o Desenvolvimento do Estado e da Região do Pantanal (UNIDERP). Choice and inevitability in modelling an organization's future : how management, depending on the company's organizational context, can shape an organization's future with the use of choice and/or the reliance on determinism

Tumidei, Daniele January 2016 (has links)
The literature presents us with two distinct, and at times opposed, approaches to strategic management: the use of strategic choice and determinism. This research shows that these approaches can actually be considered as two distinct variables, which create a space or framework in which it is possible to identify, according to the available different amounts of strategic choice and determinism, the four different ontological perspectives of determinism, hard incompatibilism, libertarianism and compatibilism. According to the literature, within each ontological perspective of the strategic choice/determinism framework, companies use different levels of strategic choice and determinism to produce organizational outcomes. This research provides empirical evidence of the real life existence of these ontological perspectives, in which companies’ performance of revenues is driven by a different amount of strategic choice or determinism according to the perspectives in which companies operate. This research also shows that other important performance indicators, such as EBITDA, depend only on deterministic variables, while ROA depends neither on strategic choice nor on deterministic variables. These findings suggest that future research could increase our knowledge on the internal environment of companies, as it could do from the hard incompatibilist perspective, which was not possible to study thoroughly within this research. The research conclusions provide several contributions to both academic knowledge and practice.

However, little is said about the relationship of these risks with changes in organizational structures and how they are treated during the implementations. This work, performed in business units of a large multinational company, aims to identify, according to the implementation responsible, the risks related to the elements of the organizational structure that may be associated with Lean Production implementations, as well as to check whether they were considered during the structuring and execution of the implementation projects. The study was based on an integrated case study in four units located in Brazil, which passed through distinct Lean Production implementation projects. An amount of 101 different risks related to the elements of organizational structures was identified and associated with Lean Production implementations in the four business units, as well as it can be seen that 31 of them are patterns between at least two of the four units. Seeking for standard risks among the four units, just the threat of a culture resistant to change and the opportunity of the training in Lean Production application were found. Such evidence clearly shows that these four business units belonging to the studied company had each other different types of risks related to the organizational structure associated with the implementations. A small portion of these risks, mostly opportunities, was considered during the design of the project, but still not using a systematic or standardized way, and most of the risk is not identified or at design or during project execution, but rather treated as becomes a real difficulty for the achievement of the results of project implementation.

Kota, Sai Mohan Harsha January 2018 (has links)
There are many aspects that govern the performance of an organization. One of the most important thing is their organizational structure. Having a well-planned organizational structure facilitates good internal communication among the employees, which in turn contributes to the success of the organization. Today, company re-structuring is very common in the industry. When various key employees are re-organized (moved to different hierarchical positions), the company might experience certain incidents which can be damaging or beneficial for the company. To leverage the potential gain, having an efficient organizational structure is very important for a company. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the existing organizational structure of the company by the evaluation of email communications between the employees, and if required suggest the need for re-organization. In this case study, we have applied various cluster validation techniques to evaluate the email communications between the employees. The data (email logs) are provided by the company which have been recorded at different time periods. We have analyzed the organizational structure through the analysis of these email logs. We have then simulated various re-organization scenarios. By applying various cluster validation metrics, we have examined the quality of the existing organizational structure. We have also recorded how re-organization (moving employees from one organizational unit to other) effects the overall quality of the existing organizational structure of the company. In this study, we have presented how different cluster validation metrics will be helpful in assessing the quality of the organizational structure by reflecting the different aspects of the organizational structure. We have shown that our approach makes it possible to evaluate the effects of different re-organization scenarios on the internal communication patterns of employees in an organization. All these metrics can be used by the company to improve their existing organizational structure.
