Pedraza Huarcaya, Yulisa Patricia January 2014 (has links)
*** Osteoporosis is a common disease in postmenopausal women and its high morbidity and mortality public health problem. Knowledge of prevention and treatment of osteoporosis is essential if we are to increase the quality of life in this population. This study is very important for professional nursing since the essence of its function is to provide comprehensive care to the person and family oriented and strengthening behaviors and healthy lifestyles to get avoiding the presence of factors that encourage diseases such as osteoporosis and prevent this chronic degenerative and disabling disease. Thus the present study entitled “Effectiveness of Innovative Education Program in the level of knowledge about Osteoporosis Prevention in Women Menopause. Programa de Vaso de Leche Micaela Bastidas. Ate. 2013”. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of Innovative Education Program in the level of knowledge about Osteoporosis Prevention in Women Menopause Programa de Vaso de Leche Micaela Bastidas . Ate Vitarte. The study is level application, quantitative, quasi-experimental method. The sample consists of 37 women of Programa de Vaso de Leche Micaela Bastidas ages 40-60 years. The technique is the interview and the instrument is one questionnaire, which was applied in two stages. Results: Out of 37 (100 %) women, before the implementations of Innovative Education Program 33 (89.2 %) have a low level of knowledge, after the implementation of the program, it can be seen that the percentage of women decreases 0 (0.0 %). With respect to the average level of knowledge occurred in 3 (8.1 %) women and that after the implementation of Innovative Education Program decreased to 2 women (5.4 %). Finally with regard to women who had a higher level of understanding preoperatively only one (2.7 %) reached this level, but after the intervention of Innovative Education Program can be seen that this percentage increases considerably to 35 women (94.6 %). The conclusion was that Innovative Education Program is effective in increasing the knowledge level of women in the climacteric of the Programa de Vaso de Leche Micaela Bastidas, this is found by applying the Student t test (tcal = 26.4) which indicates rejection of the null hypothesis and thus accept the hypothesis test that women in menopause increase their initial level of knowledge about osteoporosis prevention, after participating in the Innovative Education Program.

Specific loading protocols to promote bone mineral density in young women

LaRiviere, Jane A. (Jane Ann) 24 April 2002 (has links)
Osteoporosis is characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD), bone fragility, and an increased risk of osteoporotic fracture. The disease is systemic in nature but potential solutions include exercises prescriptions that target the clinically relevant sites of osteoporosis (hip and spine) to improve bone mass. The aim of this dissertation was to determine if atypical loading and load magnitude increased bone mass at the hip and spine, respectively, in young athletic women. The first study sought to determine if six months of uncustomary loading in the form of a "hip drop", increased BMD at the hip in young women (n=39, aged 20.2 1.3 years). The hip drop applied a direct side impact to the right greater trochanter, the left hip was the control. The second study compared the spine BMD response after six months of rowing training in experienced (n=16, aged 21.2 1.2 years) and novice rowers (n=19, aged 19.5 0.8 years) with a control group (n=14, aged 19.2 1.6 years). Bone mineral density at the hip and spine were measured in the first and second studies, respectively. Results from the first study showed a significant difference in BMD between hips at the femoral neck but there were no side-to-side differences at the greater trochanter or the total hip. The second study revealed that six months of rowing training increased spine BMD in the experienced rowers (2.1%) but not in the novices (-0.05%). / Graduation date: 2002
