Re-imagining Change : Enhancing Construction Change Management from a Cost Management Perspective / Omdefiniera förändring : Förbättring av ändringshantering i byggprojekt ur ett kostnadshanteringsperspektivKarunanayaka, Dulinda, Saramge Don, Gihan January 2024 (has links)
This research addresses the problem of identifying and navigating barriers in construction change management, which is defined as managing any modifications to a project's scope, design, schedule, or resources. The purpose is to offer a comprehensive understanding of challenges and strategies by synthesizing a theoretical framework, literature review, and empirical insights from industry professionals, focusing on the construction industry in Sweden. Methodologically, the study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews with cost managers working with contractors, clients, and consultants. The findings reveal multifaceted challenges across five main principles of change management, identified from the theoretical framework: Balanced Change Culture, Recognizing Change, Evaluating Change, Implementing Change, and Continuous Improvement from Lessons Learned. The study reveals several primary barriers to effective change management, including communication breakdowns, inadequate documentation, unclear project scopes, and insufficient risk assessments during early project stages. It emphasizes the importance of fostering a culture that balances the need for flexibility with adherence to structured processes tailored to each project’s unique requirements. Key themes such as the significance of clear communication, the impact of cultural differences on project management practices, and the critical role of detailed documentation are highlighted as areas requiring attention for effective change management. The study contributes to the body of knowledge in construction change management by providing empirical insights into the challenges faced by cost managers in the Swedish construction industry. Building on the theoretical framework of Ibbs' change management principles and integrating findings from the literature, this research develops a comprehensive understanding of effective change management strategies. These strategies are designed to mitigate identified barriers and are derived from both theoretical insights and practical recommendations gathered during the study. By providing actionable guidance, this research not only benefits practitioners in the field but also lays the groundwork for future academic inquiry into optimizing construction change management processes.

Analýza rozdílů podrobnosti rozpočtu v závislosti na stupni dokumentace / Analysis of budget detail differences depending on the level of documentationHrstka, Lukáš Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis is dedicated to comparing overall prices as well as the creation of budget indicators in individual phases of documentation for buildings belonging among public orders. The thesis primarily determines fundamental terms and definitions regarding this issue. The creation of a new database for the buildings that is compiled of twenty subjects projected in the last four years is described in the second more detailed part. Objects in this database are indexed by temporal indexes for the sake of future more accurate comparisons and the creation of indicators. The comparison of the objects' prices in different phases of documentation can be found in this part along with two calculated specific budget indicators corresponding to unit price per one cubic meter of building volume and to the price per one meter squared of floor area. The average indicator for informative price based on previous indicators is then created for faster evaluation of similar types of objects in their study phase. Performed research has revealed significant differences between study phase prices and the prices of more detailed phases of documentation that can negatively affect the future of a specific project. The main conclusion of this thesis are average overall unit prices for civil constructions, production and service buildings as well as other specific buildings. In the final part I have created methods of a more accurate calculation for the unit price of buildings in the study phase of documentation.

Návrh řešení bezbariérového přístupu v širším okolí u náměstí v Týně nad Vltavou. / The Design of the solution to the wheelchair access in the wide surroundings of Týn nad Vltavou square.SUCHANOVÁ, Kateřina January 2009 (has links)
This thesis includes a study of the chosen area in the town of Týn nad Vltavou from the point of view of barrierless conception. I monitored the starting state in this area and I compared it with all valid legal regulations and norms. I pointed out the weaknesses of the starting state in this area. The complex barrierless area could be established by removing these weaknesses. This new area could be open not only to healthy people but also to people with limited ability of movement and orientation. I determined the order of the changes urgency. This means which elements should be reconstructed and modified to the barrierless state as soon as possible. I was interested in the state of the footpaths, crossings for the people, car-parks, staircases and other elements. I was also interested in the accessibility of civil facilities {--} the medical centre, the pharmacy, the town laundry, the building with care service and the post office. I chose one part of the footpath for the technical solution. The barrierless solution is missing in this part of the footpath. I elaborated project documentation for this part of the footpath needed for granting the building permission because the footpath is situated in the direct proximity of citizens´ residences and infrastructure network leads through this footpath. The drawings have been processed by visualization cad application. This diploma thesis also contains the list of the valid legal regulations and publications which deal with the problems of the barrierless areas.
