The electroretinographic technique essentially consists in using light to stimulate the retina in a particular set of environmental conditions. Then, a record is kept of the retina response to the luminous stimulus.The following goals were set for the present research: (i) to develop a protocol for electroretinographic exam in healthy green iguanas in order to elicit normal electroretinograms; (ii) to determine which types of photoreceptors exist in the retina; (iii) to assess the influence which the weight and the snout-vent length exert on the electroretinographic parameters. In the literature references consulted, there are few studies on electroretinography in the green iguana. Besides, none of such studies has resorted to any standard and widely accepted protocol for ophthalmologic exam in either human or veterinary medicine. The results obtained in the quantitative analysis were consistent with the simplex, pure cone retina. This suggests that the electroretinographic exam in the green iguana can abide by a protocol based mainly on photopic evaluation.

Se analizaron 1255 sueros bovinos del Partido de Tandil por inmunodifusión, (ID) usando Leukassay-B, concentrándose un 5,25 de positividad. El grupo etario de 1 a 3 años fue el más afectado con 12,59, los demás valores fluctuaron entre 1,33 y 4,95. Las cabañas positivas fueron 2 de 2 con un 11,1 de infectados. Los rodeos generales 2 de 3 con positividades que van de 1,98 a 8,13. De tres animales serológicamente positivos a la prueba de ID se cultivaron linfocitos en donde se observó inmunofluorescencia específica para el virus de la Leucosis bovina usando inmunofluorescencia directa. / A serological survey with 1.255 bovine sera from Tandil county using inmunodifusion, Leukassay-B, gave 5.25 of positive results. The group 1 to 3 year old gave the highest percent 12.59, the other values renged from 1.33 to 4.95. Two out of two bull herds were positive being the rate of infection 11.1 for each one. Two out of three general herds checked were infected with 3.03 each other and 5 of 8 dairy cow herds were infected with values ranging from 1.98 to 8.13. From 3 bovines with positive serology, cultures of lymphocytes were carried out and specific immunofluorescence was demonstrated in them using direct immunofluorescent test.

Se analizaron 282 sueros equinos del Partido de Tandil y alrededores, con el objeto de investigar si el virus Encefalitis de San Luis u otro Flavivirus puede interesar o no a la patología equina de la región. Se estudiaron 10 establecimientos, 4 de ellos presentaron en total 23 sueros positivos con anticuerpos inhibidores de la hemoaglutinación y/o fijadores de complemento, de los cuales 6 pudieron determinarse como correspondientes a virus Encefalitis de San Luis por neutralización. Los restantes se enterpretan como positivos en algún otro Flavivirus presente en la zona. / A sample of 282 equine sera from Tandil country an surroudings were search for antibodies againts St. Louis Encephalitis virus to know the importance it has if any in equine pathology. Ten different places were investigated and four of then showed 23 positive sera in total by hemagglutination-inhibition and/or complement fixation test. Six of them resulted positive by neutralization test also and therefore were specific for St. Louis Encephalitis virus. The others are interpreted as positive againts other/s Flavivirus present in the area.

Propósito de analizar el papel que desempeñan los macrófagos (MAC) en la demodeccia juvenil generalizada espontánea (DG), se investigó si el suero de los animales que la padecen ejercen alguna influencia sobre su función. Para ello, se realizaron pruebas de fagocitosis y de blastogénesis, preincubando a los MAC con dicho suero. Las mismas demostaron que el suero de los animles con DG redujo en forma significativa la capacidad fagocítica de los MAC e impidió la normal interacción funcional MAC-linfocito T. Ambas propiedades se recuperaron tras la curación de los enfermos. Estos resultados sugieren la existencia, en los animales con DG, de un factor sérico con efecto depresor sobre la función de los MAC.. / To further the understanding of the behavoir of macrophages (MAC) in spontaneous generalized demodicosis (DG) studies were performed so as to determine if the serum from demodectic dogs had any influence on their function. Thus, phagocytic and blastogenetic tests were done preincubating MAC with this serum. These assays demonstrated that the serum from animals with DG reduced significantly the phagocytic capacity of MAC and impaired normal MAC-T lymphocyte functional interaction. Both propierties reappered after recovery of the patients. These results suggest the presence of a seric factor with an inhibitory effect on MAC function, in patients with DG..
