Measuring the validity of two continuous performance tests: different parameters and scoring indices

Homack, Susan Rae 30 October 2006 (has links)
Today, there are numerous versions of the continuous performance test (CPT) used in clinical and research settings. Although CPTs may constitute a similar group of tasks with a common paradigm, they are very different in the parameters they measure (Conners, 1995). To learn more about the effects of different CPT versions as well as the numerous scoring indices, two very different CPTs, the Conners’ Continuous Performance Test-Second Edition (CCPT-II) and the Gordon Diagnostic System (GDS), were compared with a population of children and adolescents exhibiting ADHD and normal controls. Major findings were as follows: (a) the CCPT-II and GDS measures were not able to separate children with ADHD from normal controls; (b) individual variables from neither the CCPT-II nor the GDS were able to adequately differentiate children with ADHD and normal controls; and (c) score profiles obtained from the overall group of children and adolescents did not successfully separate the ADHD group from normal controls using the CCPT-II and GDS.

The plate test on clay : a finite element study

Hillier, Robert Peter January 1992 (has links)
The field plate test has been used to derive elastic stiffness and undrained strength parameters of clay soils. Generally the interpretations are based on the measurements of the plate load and settlement, though occasionally additional measurements have been made in an attempt to improve the interpretation. The interpretations of soil parameters from the test rely on simplified assumptions of the soil behaviour. In particular the soil-is often assumed to be linear elastic perfectly-plastic. The complexity of the stress and strain paths induced within the soil by a field plate load test belies the simplicity of the interpretations. This Thesis examines the use of the field plate load test as a method of deriving in-situ parameters of clay soils, using the finite element method to conduct a parametric study of the test. The results of these studies have been used to assess the validity of the parameters determined from the test and also to examine how the interpretation may be improved. The Thesis concludes that the interpretation of the plate test can be improved to yield non-linear elastic parameters of soil at small strain. In addition the results from a plate test can, theoretically, be used to predict the elastic load settlement response of full scale foundations. The test can also be used to measure consolidation and undrained strength characteristics of a clay soil appropriate to the analysis/design of full scale foundations of similar geometry and load direction.

Comparison of Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Tests in Adults

Taylor, Cindy J. 12 1900 (has links)
Two continuous performance tests were administered to normal adult subjects. The mode of presentation (visual or auditory) and the type of task (vigilance or distractibility) were varied, and their effects on performance measured. Data were collected on eighty-two subjects, and results indicated that auditory presentation of stimuli increased the difficulty of both tasks. Results also suggest that the distractibility task administered in either mode was more difficult than the vigilance task. Intercorrelations among the four continuous performance tasks are provided. Normative data are presented on all four tasks administered. A measure of symptoms of attention-deficit disorder in adults, the Adult Behavior Checklist, was found to correlate significantly with another measure of pathology, the SCL-90-R.

School achievement motivation among Navajo High School students : a study of school achievement goals, achievement values, and ability beliefs

Hinkley, John W., University of Western Sydney, College of Arts, Education and Social Sciences, School of Psychology January 2001 (has links)
Navajo school students, it is believed, underachieve at school in terms of school attendance, dropout rates, and standardized performance tests. Among the many reasons proposed to explain the persistent school underachievement is that school culture is largely based on individualism, interpersonal competition, and other Western norms and values. These, it is argued, are an anathema to Native Americans. Hence, school culture may predispose many Navajo High School students to failure. To test this belief I constructed a model of school achievement motivation drawn from Western conceptualizations of achievement motivation described Navajo High School students achievement motivation. Using confirmatory factor analyses tests of equivalency were conducted that contrasted non-traditional Navajo students and females with near traditional Navajo students and males. Using structural equation modeling, I examined the relations of the language, location, and gender variables on the achievement goal factors, mediated by school measures of achievement, ability beliefs, social goals and achievement goals. I concluded that non-traditional and near traditional Navajo students are more similar than dissimilar. Clearly this raises concerns regarding the making of policy based on assumptions regarding presumed differences between non-traditional and near traditional Navajo High School students. I also concluded that, school achievement measures, the ability beliefs, and the social approval and social concern goals are important factors that influence the school achievement goals Navajo students emphasize. This has implications for the manner in which schools and teachers emphasize these factors in classrooms. / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Využití výsledků testování výkonnosti ve šlechtění teplokrevných koní / Use of performance testing results in warmblood horse breeding

KŘÍŽKOVÁ, Jana January 2013 (has links)
Objective of the work was to analyze the results of performance testing and their usage in warmblood horses breeding. The active Czech warmblood stallions registered in The Czech warmblood breeders association on the list of stallions in 2012, were summarized into the overview. The results of mare performance tests (daughters of sires) and the results of offspring in jumping competitions were used for the analysis of the stallions. Stallions were divided according to available offspring data into three groups. The first group contains stallions who still can not have offspring in sport (young stallions), in the second group are stallions with no available record about the offsrping. The stallions in the third group have daughters passed the performance tests and offspring in sports, therefore we have analyzed this third group in detail. Stallions were ranked by the number of offspring and by the performance results of their offspring. Based on average results of the mare performance tests and the average number of points in jumping competitions were selected the top stallions, who also had to meet a criterion of the number of offspring (min. 10 mares on performance tests and min. 6 offspring in sport). Own performance and the performance of the progeny of these top ten stallions was compared with other equally or even more frequent stallions. Based on the results of mare performance tests and sports performance of the offspring were best assessed stallions: Comero, Phill, Le Patron, Radegast, Sargoni, Manillon Rouge, Amarillo, Dantes, Rock´n Roll and Calanthano. These all stallions met the criterion of the number of offspring. The breeder selection of the stallion doesn´t follow performance results and the number of offspring doesn´t copy the quality of the stallion, it means, that the selection of the stallion for each mare is based on other circumnstances. It means that the results of performance testing were not used in Czech warmblood breeding.

Evaluating an IPv4 and IPv6 Network / Utvärdera ett IPv4- och IPv6 nätverk

Lidholm, Gilbert, Netterberg, Marcus January 2012 (has links)
This thesis is the result of the bachelor’s thesis project “Evaluating an IPv4 and IPv6 network”. The IPv6 protocol was created with the main purpose of solving the problem of the depletion of IPaddresses that IPv4 is currently facing. This thesis gives an introduction to the differences between IPv4 and IPv6 and when one should use one protocol rather than the other. It describes the services that we will use in order to evaluate what kinds of problems IPv4 may experience and if these problems can be solved by using IPv6. We also show how to set up a network with both protocols for each service that we examine. We will subsequently evaluate the performance of these two protocols for each of these services. We found that there were no significant differences in the performance of any of the applications that we tested with both IPv4 and IPv6. Due to the depletion of IPv4 addresses and the continuing rapid growth of the Internet, this thesis describes a very current and a relevant issue for computer networks today.

Performance Evaluation And Cfd Analysis Of A Positive Displacement Diaphragm Pump

Gokce, Gokay 01 September 2011 (has links) (PDF)
In order to understand flow characteristics inside a positive displacement pump, every point in the flow field must be carefully observed. Such observations are difficult, expensive and usually time consuming to achieve with physical testing. During tests one can observe flow characteristics only at the locations where the instrument device is attached, not the whole flow domain. This thesis mainly focuses on the evaluation of design and performance characteristics of a positive displacement triplex diaphragm pump. For this purpose not only numerical investigations but also experimental studies were conducted using a positive displacement pump which is supplied by the pump manufacturer and is available in the fluid mechanics laboratory of Middle East Technical University. The effect of valve characteristics on the pump efficiency such as valve spring stiffness, valve displacement, mass of the check valves, and diaphragm shape are investigated in this thesis by using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technique. The pump performance is analyzed in terms of its volumetric and hydraulic efficiencies. The effect of the valve closure delay is also discussed. After the CFD and experimental results of the current pump model are compared and it is seen that they are in close agreement with each other, parametric studies are performed in computer environment. From analysis results it is observed that using stiffer springs reduces valve closing time and tend to decrease flow reversal effects. Secondly, using heavier check valves increases valve closing and opening times and also increases the stresses on the components of the pump with the increased pressure drop through discharge valve. As a result of this condition, hydraulic and volumetric efficiency reduce. Thirdly, with the longer valve displacement arrangement, more time is required for opening and closing of the check valves therefore efficiency of the pump reduces.

Analýza výsledků výkonnostních zkoušek chladnokrevných klisen

NĚMCOVÁ, Hana January 2017 (has links)
Performance tests of cold-blooded mares are the only control criterion of their performance and characteristic features, along with completing assembly centre and entry into the appropriate herd book. This dissertation inquires into the analysis of performance tests results that the mares went through in the period 2004 - 2016. During this period, the tests evaluated the performance of 1099 mares where was 39.58% ČMB, 36.03% SN and 24.39% N. There was found that the number of mares SN participating performance tests rises unlike the number of mares N which drops. In the next part of this work, we found that the best total rating in the monitored period achieved the breed mares SN with an average of 7.92 points, as well as minimum and maximum of average total rating assumes higher values than the breed ČMB and N. The third feature (value 8.28) achieved in the partial character of assessment performance tests the highest average mark. This feature is in total best evaluated by all breeds. In the tests of performance in the monitored period there was a cold-blooded mares evaluated with 3260 marks. Out of these marks it was found out that a statistically significant difference between each breed wasn´t at characteristic mark of step when the P> 0.05 level. Other characters achieved p-value of 0.001, which indicates the difference of the breeds in those marks. It was proved the dependence of the overall assessment on the marks of partial character of assessment performance tests of cold-blooded mares and there was a notable tightness of dependence of character saddiction in the first, second, third and the fourth - willingness -controllability. It follows that the discovery of the most difficult move affects the most the result of an overall assessment of performance tests of cold-blooded mares.

Zkoušky výkonnosti chladnokrevných koní a jejich hodnocení / Performance tests of cold-blooded horses and their evaluation

PÁTEK, Ladislav January 2014 (has links)
Performance tests are necessary to determine the performance and individual character traits of the horse, which are needed for inclusion in breeding. The aim of the diploma thesis was to assess the performance tests and the method of evaluation. At first, the thesis compares the system and evaluation of tests of cold-blooded horses in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries. The following section compares the performance requirements for stallions and mares. Then there was compared the performance of different breeds. The following part deals with determining, how the year of performance tests affected the evaluation of individual disciplines. The last part of the thesis deals with observing the influence of the breed on evaluation of individual disciplines.
