A study of the relationship of age to psychological type in couples entering marriageLockwood, William Arthur 01 January 1988 (has links)
This study was designed to examine the relationship of age to psychological type (as defined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) in couples entering marriage. The search for correlations between factors of mate selection has produced positive results in the area of census data, but the area of personality variables has yielded only slight positive results.;One hundred and seventy couples were chosen from a population of six hundred on the basis of age. The two categories consisted of 117 couples 18-22 years of age, and 53 couples 35-70 years of age. The results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator were subjected to two different treatments. The first method was to compare the number of shared preferences in each of the two age groups, while the second treatment converted the function preferences to communication indices.;The first hypothesis that the older couples would share more preferences than the younger couples was not supported. The second hypothesis that the older couples would achieve significantly higher communication scores was not supported either. This study did not find a significant correlation between age and psychological type in couples entering marriage.

Basic or Fabulous? Developing a Life Complexity ScaleUnknown Date (has links)
A Life Complexity Scale (LCS) and Life Diversity Scale (LDS) were developed to assess the richness and diversity of experiences in individuals. In study 1, three hundred and fifty mTurk workers completed the LCS and other standard measurements of personality to assess the scales validity and correlation. Exploratory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were used to look into the structure of the scale. Four factors were selected according to Scree plot solution and theoretical framework including: complexity, basic, uncertainty, and complicated. In study 2, four hundred mTurk workers completed the LDS along with other measurements of personality, depression, and social support. Exploratory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were used to explore the structure of the scale finding a single factor solution. The results indicate that both scales have good reliability LCS (Omega total = 1.02) and LDS (Omega total = .8). The associations with other personality traits are explored and recommendations for future research are signaled. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2019. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

When Buying Milk, Do You Care about the Cow? : Developing and Validating a Measure of Focus on Ethical ConsiderationsUnknown Date (has links)
People differ in the degree to which they focus on the ethical aspects of daily experiences. Past work operationalizes such differences using general, abstract items focused on perceiving and deliberating about moral conflict, but this conception may not capture the full psychological experience of morality, leading to problems with predictive validity. We built on past work to create a new measure, the Focus on Ethical Considerations (FEC) scale, which focuses on concrete moral experiences whether or not they involve conflict, allows for intuition and emotion, and invites relative rather than absolute judgments, in a bid to increase construct and predictive validity. Across three studies, the FEC scale improved upon the predictive accuracy of the moral attentiveness scale for relevant measures such as moral identity, the moralization of everyday life, and empathic concern, although moral attentiveness predicted need for cognition better than the FEC. Moreover, although both moral attentiveness and the FEC predicted rejection of causing outcome-maximizing harm in conventional sacrificial moral dilemmas, a process dissociation analysis revealed that moral attentiveness predicted reduced moral concerns about outcomes whereas the FEC predicted increased moral concerns about harm. Together, these findings suggest that the FEC scale improves upon past measures for capturing individual differences in moral considerations, and that chronic moral appraisal involves more than cognitive recognition of conflict. / A Thesis submitted to the Department of Psychology in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science. / Spring Semester 2019. / January 28, 2019. / Focus on Ethical Considerations, moral attentiveness, moral identity, moral judgments, prosocial behavior / Includes bibliographical references. / Paul Conway, Professor Directing Thesis; Jon Maner, Committee Member; Colleen Ganley, Committee Member.
