His self-denial had no limite: gave up their interests to practice love to people. This man had a poor childhood, became orphan of father at five years old and was educated by his mother and a governess. He passed part of their vacations with his grandfather, wich was a shepherd. With his mother learned that the authentic paternity comes from God. So, since tender age he already understood the exclusive dependence of divine providence. At nineteen years old became a member of the Helvetic masonic society. In 1771 begans a work with poor boys, in a Neuhof farm, wich the proposal was unite education and work. With a series of problems he finishes this activity in 1780 and publishes "Twilight of an hermit". In 1781 publishes the first part of "Leonardo and Gertrudes". He became editor of the newspaper "Helvetischen Volks-blatt", at 1798. In 1797 publishes "My inquiries about march of the nature in the development of the human species". After that, opened a teachers' school and seminar in the Castle of Burgdorf, that he closes and reopens in Yverdon, but this time to include teaching for girls. His resilience is continuous, but in spite of all adversities he continued his fight to give quality to the teaching, trying to form qualified professionals. He works with hard realities, always looking for an ideal inspired on the heart emotions, looking in God forces to continue his task. Their learning ideas, wich base is focused on the student, had echoe in Europe and America, arriving in Brazil through Rui Barbosa.
