Photograph labeling application : An Android application for labeling and uploading of photographs / Fotografimärkningsapplikation : En Androidapplikation för märkning och uppladdning av fotografier

Johansson, Gustav, Persson, Fredrik January 2016 (has links)
The project’s goal was to solve a technical problem for Elonservice in Värmland, wheretheir technicians have the need for an upload solution for labeled photographs in connectionwith warranty claims. The solution to the problem was to develop an Android applicationthat label photographs and then automatically uploads them to a selected storage service. The end result of the project is a working Android application. Users can take photographsthrough the application and is then forced to name them in a correct manner. Theapplication automatically handles the uploading of photographs and deletion of uploadedphotographs. In addition to this there is also a gallery where all photographs are displayedwith their upload state and the opportunity to see all photos in full screen. The applicationhas future development possibilities such as more options for storage services , labelingalternative to photographs and a more attractive design.

The digitisation of photographic collections

Pretorius, Deirdre 27 February 2006 (has links)
The management of photographic collections present certain unique problems due to their heterogeneous nature. The purpose of this study is to analyse these potential problem areas and to determine how these can be resolved through the digitisation of photographic collections. The following areas are addressed: the capturing and enhancement of photographic images; data formats and storage; metadata and the retrieval of photographic images. In order to determine to what extent the principles and findings set out in the study are applied in practice, a case study was done of the Digitisation Project of the MuseumAfrica. This was followed by an evaluation of the findings of the case study as well as recommendations with regard to elements of the Museum's project that could possibly be improved upon or done differently. In conclusion a summarised overview is presented of the findings of the study as well as some remarks on possible future developments regarding the management of photographic collections within a digital environment. / Dissertation (MA (Information Science))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Information Science / unrestricted

The Voluntourist Gaze: Framing volunteer tourism experiences as portrayed in Facebook

Sink, Lisa Ashley 31 July 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to begin to analyze the discourse of volunteer tourism. More specifically, a holistic examination of the hermeneutic circle of volunteer tourism that takes into consideration the messages being communicated by volunteer tourism organizations, the voluntourist's interpretation and consumption of the messages, and in turn the re-distribution of the messages via social media using photographs and comments. The sending organization pre-trip materials were reviewed to determine if volunteer tourism participants experienced a voluntourist gaze and subsequently captured similar images as marketed by the sending organization, thus completing the hermeneutic circle. Using grounded theory, photographs were coded to flush out underlying themes and patterns. These themes and patterns were incorporated into semi-structured interviews that were conducted, using a purposive sample of participants in a volunteer tourism experience with a student volunteer organization, to document the experience of the voluntourist. Underlying patterns further studied included: tourist gaze (Urry, 1990) vs. family gaze (Haldrup and Larsen, 2003), characterizations of hosts (Caton & Santos, 2008), and the characterizations of other images (Schmallegger et al., 2010) utilizing content and semiotic analysis. These results were triangulated with the interview responses to interpret the story shared on Facebook. Additionally, Barthes (1977) theory of anchorage and relay was utilized to analyze the photographs uploaded onto Facebook and the related captions and comments to reveal the story shared. / Master of Science

Touching a sensibility: a photographic exploration of haptic experience

Turner, Allen Julie (Jules) Unknown Date (has links)
Touching a sensibility will attempt to locate the exchange when the living body physically touches the world. Exploration into the emotive response that the lived body creates as it moves through the world, both as a passive receptor and as an active initiator, will be explored where a relationship between the touched and the toucher is formed. This project will use photographic processes in an attempt to facilitate the viewer to engage in the work with their own personal sensibility. The emotional tension created, within an individual when their desire to physically touch something in the world is forbidden, impossible or illicit, will be investigated. This tension manifests itself in the form of apprehension, vulnerability, anticipation, romanticism and the sensibility of possible unpredicted connection. Photographic portrayal will be used to articulate this research and bring into fruition ideas which sit around the haptic.

Surface Stories

Franklin, Patricia Bruce 01 January 2006 (has links)
As an artist, I am fascinated by surfaces and the stories they tell. I have observed that places and objects, like people, wear the effects of age in different ways. Their stories are revealed through pealing paint, rusty metal, and surface patina. My photographs are a record of their state of existence at the moment I am present. I have chosen a point in time when each is at rest, with only the aged surface to hint of a life of use. Their stories unfold with observation through the lens of my camera.
