Documentation of spinal red flags during physiotherapy assessment

Cooney, F., Graham, Claire, Jeffrey, Sarah, Hellawell, Michael 11 December 2017 (has links)
Yes / The project was designed as a retrospective service evaluation using audit to assess the identification and documentation of red flags in initial assessment of patients with low back pain. Firstly, the documentation of 11 predetermined red flags was assessed. Secondly, the documentation of relevant additional information was assessed and finally, compliance with local policy to highlight positive red flag findings in the designated area on the paperwork was examined. The documentation for the majority of red flags was high, however, clear gaps were identified. Additionally, there was no evidence of further clinical consideration of positive red flags during the diagnostic process. Possible factors influencing red flag documentation are discussed and suggestions are provided to improve recording and response to clinical indicators of malignancy.

Gauermann, Christoph 18 December 2013 (has links)
Introduction: Work related musculoskeletal disorders are common among physiotherapists. Preventive research examined this profession rarely until today. In this background changing working environment could be an important way to prevent work related illnesses. The aim of this study is the creation of a checklist for assessing the workplace of a physiotherapist. Material and Methods: A search for literature took place in September 2011 in following databases and search engines: “CEBP“, “Cochrane“, “Ebsco“, “GoogleScholar“, “Medpilot“, “PeDro“, “Pubmed“ and the online-catalogue of the “württembergische Landesbibliothek”. After a systematic sort out remained 13 studies and two books to which another two books from an unsystematic search were added. From the results of the searches relevant data to create a checklist were extracted. Results: A literature-based checklist was developed, which can be used directly or as a help to develop an individual workplace change program. Discussion: In the knowledge of the author a literature-based checklist for assessing the workplace of a physiotherapist is unique. Each checklist item is described more closely and discussed separately.

Virtual Reality for Assessment of Chronic Lower Back Pain in Physiotherapy : Task Selection, Design, and User Experience Evaluation

Sahlin, William, Herath, Hiran January 2023 (has links)
Chronic lower back pain (CLBP) presents a significant challenge in healthcare, requiring effective tools for rehabilitation and assessment. This study explores the use of virtual reality (VR) for the assessment of CLBP and addresses two research questions. Firstly, it investigates how movements and tasks considered problematic for individuals with CLBP can be incorporated into the VR application for assessment purposes. Secondly, it examines physiotherapists' perceptions of the VR application regarding tasks, feasibility, user experience, and overall design. To answer our questions, we conducted three design workshops with physiotherapists and HCI researchers and designed three VR applications that we evaluated with six physiotherapy students. The study provides valuable insights into participants' perceptions and experiences, shedding light on both the promising aspects and potential pitfalls of using VR in physiotherapy assessment. The findings underscore the value of incorporating user feedback into the design and implementation process, emphasizing the need for a user-centered approach, and provide several implications for the design of VR applications for assessment. This study lays the groundwork for the integration of VR as a valuable tool in physiotherapy assessment for CLBP.
