An innovation is the process of making improvements by introducing new idea in the form of product or service. In recent years, successful societies are shifting their focus towards the realization and acceptance of these new ideas. Plug and Play business software platform is the first step to transform these ideas into reality. The study presented in this thesis introduced that a new business idea contains specific business role and consists of a set of capabilities or needs and any one of them. Plug and play business software platform mainly consists of three major business processes that are required to run this platform those are; business match making process, negotiating process and collaboration process. This study analyzes the process of business match making in detail and introduce an ontology based business match making process which will find new businesses in a hierarchical fashion based on their specific business roles. Match making ontology consists of three processes i.e. information collection process which is used to collect and register information, extraction process which is an optional process to extract set of capabilities and needs if actor/innovator is unable to define its business capabilities and needs in information collection process and finally finding and ranking process which will find a set of potential collaborators and then will rank that set based on ranking parameters collected in information collection process from actor/innovator. This study also presents a technological model which will provide foundation to develop plug and play business software platform. This model identifies business processes of the platform and presents each business process as a separate loosely coupled software module. This model divides the platform into two layers; the upper layer is called PnP layer and consists of PnP Client Service, PnP Community Service, Finding and Ranking Service, Negotiating Service and Collaboration Service; lower layer is called kernel layer and consists of Security management Service, Operational management Services and Communication Service. Finally partially implemented prototype, test data and results will be used to visualize the presented concept.

More restrictive emission legislations, rising fuel prices and the realisation that oil is a limited resource have lead to the emergence of the hybrid electric vehicles.To fully utilise the potential of the hybrid electric vehicles, energy management strategies are needed. The main objective of the strategy is to ensure that the limited electric energy is utilised in an efficient manner.This thesis develops and evaluates an optimisation based energy management strategy for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The optimisation methods used are based on a dynamic programming and ECMS approach. The strategy is validated against Vsim, Volvo Cars' performance and fuel consumption analysis tool as well as against strategies where parts of the optimisation is replaced by logic. The results show that the developed strategy consumes less fuel both compared to the corresponding Vsim strategy and the logic strategies.

Hybrid Power System Intelligent Operation and Protection Involving Plug-in Electric VehiclesMa, Tan 02 April 2015 (has links)
Two key solutions to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and increase the overall energy efficiency are to maximize the utilization of renewable energy resources (RERs) to generate energy for load consumption and to shift to low or zero emission plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) for transportation. The present U.S. aging and overburdened power grid infrastructure is under a tremendous pressure to handle the issues involved in penetration of RERS and PEVs. The future power grid should be designed with for the effective utilization of distributed RERs and distributed generations to intelligently respond to varying customer demand including PEVs with high level of security, stability and reliability. This dissertation develops and verifies such a hybrid AC-DC power system. The system will operate in a distributed manner incorporating multiple components in both AC and DC styles and work in both grid-connected and islanding modes.
The verification was performed on a laboratory-based hybrid AC-DC power system testbed as hardware/software platform. In this system, RERs emulators together with their maximum power point tracking technology and power electronics converters were designed to test different energy harvesting algorithms. The Energy storage devices including lithium-ion batteries and ultra-capacitors were used to optimize the performance of the hybrid power system. A lithium-ion battery smart energy management system with thermal and state of charge self-balancing was proposed to protect the energy storage system. A grid connected DC PEVs parking garage emulator, with five lithium-ion batteries was also designed with the smart charging functions that can emulate the future vehicle-to-grid (V2G), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-house (V2H) services. This includes grid voltage and frequency regulations, spinning reserves, micro grid islanding detection and energy resource support.
The results show successful integration of the developed techniques for control and energy management of future hybrid AC-DC power systems with high penetration of RERs and PEVs.

Impact of high penetration of renewable energy sources on the relay coordination of distribution systemOlatoke, Abraham Oladele January 2016 (has links)
The rate at which the integration of distributed generation (DG) penetrates the public power supply has started to put various demands on the distribution system, since they are directly connected to the network. Distribution level protection is based on a time-overcurrent design. The design is to clear faults with as little impact and minimum time on the equipment and the customer. The increasing demands placed by grid services on the DGs, especially the PV types have a serious impact on the distribution system. For example, special protective devices are required to prevent the risk of danger in the event of mains interference. In this thesis, the main focus was on the contribution of fault currents to the distribution networks, and how the high penetration of DGs especially the renewable energy resources (R.E.S.) types affect the coordination of overcurrent (O.C.) protection. In view of the changes in the international regulations, the DGs are expected to stay connected and perform grid-related control functions, instead of shutting down at the first sign of a fault. This problem becomes more acute when the DGs stay connected during faults, known as voltage ride through (VRT). This thesis presented its findings on the impact of the DGs of various types of DGs (synchronous generator, asynchronous and power electronic) on the protection coordination by the high increase of fault currents, and the mitigation techniques of the impact of the inverter interfaced DGs (whose fault current contribution was not so high) on the overcurrent protection. The impact on system’s over-current protection coordination in such hybrid AC and DC microgrid, how the fault current changes by the high penetration of DGs in the hybrid microgrid and their effects on the protection over-current coordination were presented, as the name microgrid was adopted for networks having a point of common connection (PCC). The inverter interfaced-equipment were never in the conventional systems, the few that were there were all on the load side of the distribution system. The inverter interfacing DGs (PVs) and the synchronous types are the types of DGs that affect over-current protection of the distribution system and these were mitigated accordingly, considering the first few cycles of the fault events of the ride through capabilities. The analysis of the different penetration levels of the DGs in an existing 33kV in the Nigerian distribution network, (CocaCola-Challenge Industrial feeder) was thoroughly analysed, for less than 20%, more than 60% and 100% of the feeder load. Most of the DGs, presently existing in that network are the synchronous types, but they are only used as standby sources of power, and the renewables (RES) like the photovoltaics (PV), run of flow (RoF) Hydo and the wind turbine generators (WTG) are proposed additions. The objective of this thesis was to explain the fundamentals of distribution generation (DG) and especially the RES, in relation to distribution protection relay coordination to see why there should be urgency in carrying out the study especially in a developing environment where the grid is unstable, the load is rapidly expanding and RES is intermittent. The radial distribution system (DS) with high penetration of DG was introduced. The motive was to critically investigate protection coordination problems and the solutions to the problems. The main objective was to optimally recommend the type, size and location of the DG for an actual distribution feeder in an unstable environment where the grid supply is not steady. The effect of 100% and above of feeder load penetration on such feeders formed the objective of this research. The literature review which was for investigating in greater details the technical aspects of the operation and control of the high penetration of RES in the distribution system were thoroughly analysed. The review of the existing radial distribution protection system and the effects of high penetration of DG on the protective relaying were thoroughly investigated. The issues of power electronic based inverters and the protection coordination problems, were investigated. The protection coordination as regards to fault level changes and grounding, intentional and un-intentional islanding were major important aspects which were treated in the technical review.

<div>There is an increasing need to accurately image objects at a high temporal resolution for different applications in order to analyze the underlying physical, chemical, or biological processes. In this thesis, we use advanced models exploiting the image structure and the measurement process in order to achieve an improved temporal resolution. The thesis is divided into three chapters, each corresponding to a different imaging application.</div><div><br></div><div>In the first chapter, we propose a novel method to localize neurons in fluorescence microscopy images. Accurate localization of neurons enables us to scan only the neuron locations instead of the full brain volume and thus improve the temporal resolution of neuron activity monitoring. We formulate the neuron localization problem as an inverse problem where we reconstruct an image that encodes the location of the neuron centers. The sparsity of the neuron centers serves as a prior model, while the forward model comprises of shape models estimated from training data.</div><div><br></div><div>In the second chapter, we introduce multi-slice fusion, a novel framework to incorporate advanced prior models for inverse problems spanning many dimensions such as 4D computed tomography (CT) reconstruction. State of the art 4D reconstruction methods use model based iterative reconstruction (MBIR), but it depends critically on the quality of the prior modeling. Incorporating deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in the 4D reconstruction problem is difficult due to computational difficulties and lack of high-dimensional training data. Multi-Slice Fusion integrates the tomographic forward model with multiple low dimensional CNN denoisers along different planes to produce a 4D regularized reconstruction. The improved regularization in multi-slice fusion allows each time-frame to be reconstructed from fewer measurements, resulting in an improved temporal resolution in the reconstruction. Experimental results on sparse-view and limited-angle CT data demonstrate that Multi-Slice Fusion can substantially improve the quality of reconstructions relative to traditional methods, while also being practical to implement and train.</div><div><br></div><div>In the final chapter, we introduce CodEx, a synergistic combination of coded acquisition and a non-convex Bayesian reconstruction for improving acquisition speed in computed tomography (CT). In an ideal ``step-and-shoot'' tomographic acquisition, the object is rotated to each desired angle, and the view is taken. However, step-and-shoot acquisition is slow and can waste photons, so in practice the object typically rotates continuously in time, leading to views that are blurry. This blur can then result in reconstructions with severe motion artifacts. CodEx works by encoding the acquisition with a known binary code that the reconstruction algorithm then inverts. The CodEx reconstruction method uses the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) to split the inverse problem into iterative deblurring and reconstruction sub-problems, making reconstruction practical. CodEx allows for a fast data acquisition leading to a good temporal resolution in the reconstruction.</div>

This master's thesis deals with possibilities of modifying and extending functionality of Visual Paradigm with plug-ins as well as the study of tools for creating UML diagrams. The primary goal of this thesis is to describe graphical tools and simultaneously, the less known variants of creating UML diagrams. Those are tools that process text UML formats. Special attention is given to text tool PlantUML and to the graphical tool Visual Paradigm. Furthermore, the thesis deals with use of the Visual Paradigm open interface for programmers to create plug-ins. The main output is an implemented plug-in that allows you to convert UML diagrams between Visual Paradigm and text format PlantUML, which was published as open source software. Grammar for the PlantUML language have also been created for this plug-in.

The present thesis is focused on calculation prediction of characteristic parameters of combustion process in combustion chamber which is installed at burners testing laboratory. In the thesis basic theoretical knowledge needed for description of heat transfer in process combustion equipment are given. The Plug Flow Furnace Model is based on this knowledge. This model is used to evaluation of specific heat flux in tube furnaces. In the next step the Plug – Flow model is modified and adapted on the combustion chamber. Obtained results are compared with a measured data. By this comparison quality of this model is assessed.

The objects of the investigation were various types of board games and graphic effects for virtual board game scene. We have developed a user interface design for different games. In the following sections the OpenGL ES library and its application to the Android platform are characterized. We explored the possibility of implementation in the native code. We have developed a system for plug-ins that allows implementing game logic in scripting language and defining the virtual scene for board game in XML language.

At the beginning, the project describes basics and utilization of data warehousing and OLAP techniques and operations used within the data warehouses. Then follows a description of one of the commercial OLAP client - based on the features of this product the requirement analysis of the freeware OLAP cube client displayer is desribed - choosing the functionality to be implemented in the client. Using the requirement analysis the structural design of the application (including UML diagrams) is made. The best solution from compared libraries, frameworks and development environments is chosen for the design. Next chapter is about implementation and tools and frameworks used in implemetation. At the end the thesis clasifies the reached results and options for further improvement.
