Performance Evaluation of Kubernetes Autoscaling strategies on GKE clusters / Prestandautverdering av autoskalningsstrategier på GKE-klusterNilsen, Johanna January 2023 (has links)
Cloud computing and containerisation have experienced significant growth in recent years. With cloud providers requiring users to specify resource limits and requests, the need for performance and resource optimisation has emerged in the cloud computing domain. This thesis focuses on examining three autoscaling approaches in the Kubernetes container orchestrator: Hybrid Pod Autoscaler, Vertical Pod Autoscaler (VPA), and Horizontal Pod Autoscaler (HPA). To conduct the analysis, a production-grade microservice was deployed on a GKE cluster, replicating the workload of the host company Nordnet Bank AB, a pan-Nordic platform for savings investments. The main objective was to investigate the impact of the different autoscalers on the 50th and 99th percentile response times. The study also aimed to investigate whether a hybrid pod autoscaler, combining VPA and HPA, could outperform HPA and VPA in terms of response time and CPU usage. Additionally, the study aimed to identify the service metrics that an orchestrator can use to achieve response times similar to those obtained when resources are over-provisioned. The research findings indicate that response times varied significantly depending on the autoscaling strategy. While the 50th percentile response times remained consistent, the 99th percentile exhibited greater variation. Among the strategies, HPA demonstrated consistent performance, albeit with greater variability in the 99th percentile response times. The VPA strategy, in contrast, resulted in higher response times for both the 50th and 99th percentile compared to the baseline. The hybrid approach generally outperformed VPA in terms of response times while showing comparable performance to HPA, although with slightly greater variability. CPU usage patterns of the hybrid approach were more closely aligned with HPA than VPA. CPU usage and request rate were effectively used as service metrics for orchestrators in achieving acceptable 99th percentile response times, as demonstrated by both HPA and the hybrid approach. Nevertheless, these findings are contingent on the specific autoscaler configuration, microservice, and workload model used in this study and may not be universally applicable. / Cloud computing och containerisering har under de senaste åren haft en betydande tillväxt. I och med att molnleverantörer ger användare möjlighet att själva specificera resursgränser, har behovet för prestanda- och resursoptimering inom molntjänster blivit alltmer framträdande. Denna forskning fokuserar på att undersöka och utvärdera tre olika autoskalningsmetoder i Kubernetes containerorkestrator: Hybrid Pod Autoscaler, Vertical Pod Autoscaler (VPA) och Horizontal Pod Autoscaler (HPA).För att genomföra utvärderingen implementerades tre mikrotjänster i en GKE-klustermiljö. Arbetsbelastningen hos den svenska banken och handelsplattformen Nordnet Bank AB replikerades. Det primära syftet med studien var att undersöka hur de olika autoskalningsmetoderna påverkade svarstiden i den 50:e och 99:e percentilen. Utöver detta, syftade också till att undersöka om en hybrid pod autoscaler, som kombinerar både VPA och HPA, kunde överträffa de enskilda metoderna i svarstid och CPU-användning. Dessutom identifiera vilka mätvärden en orchestrator kan använda för att uppnå svarstider som liknar dem som uppnås när resurserna överdimensionerade. Resultaten från forskningen visar att svarstiderna varierade avsevärt beroende på vilken autoskalningsstrategi som användes. Medan svarstiderna för 50:e percentilen var relativt konsekventa, uppvisade 99:e percentilen större variation. HPA visade generellt sett jämn prestanda, men med en något större variation i 99:e percentilen av svarstider. Å andra sidan resulterade VPA i högre svarstider både för 50:e och 99:e percentilen. Hybridmetoden presterade generellt sett bättre än VPA när det gäller svarstider och visade liknande resultat som HPA, även om det fanns en något större variabilitet. Mönstret för CPU-användning för hybridmetoden låg närmare HPA än VPA. CPU-användning och förfrågningshastighet visade sig vara effektiva mätvärden för att uppnå acceptabla svarstider i 99:e percentilen, vilket bekräftades av både HPA och hybridmetoden. Det är dock viktigt att notera att dessa resultat är specifika för den autoskalningskonfiguration, mikrotjänst och arbetsbelastningsmodell som användes i studien och kanske inte är universellt tillämpliga.

Cette thèse développe une méthodologie originale et non intrusive de construction de modèles de substitution applicable à des modèles physiques multiparamétriques.La méthodologie proposée permet d’approcher en temps réel, sur l’ensemble du domaine paramétrique, de multiples quantités d’intérêt hétérogènes issues de modèles physiques.Les modèles de substitution sont basés sur des représentations en train de tenseurs obtenues lors d'une phase hors ligne de calculs intensifs.L'idée essentielle de la phase d'apprentissage est de construire simultanément les approximations en se basant sur un nombre limité de résolutions du modèle physique lancées à la volée.L'exploration parcimonieuse du domaine paramétrique couplée au format compact de train de tenseurs permet de surmonter le fléau de la dimension.L'approche est particulièrement adaptée pour traiter des modèles présentant un nombre élevé de paramètres définis sur des domaines étendus.Les résultats numériques sur des lois élasto-viscoplastiques non linéaires montrent que des modèles de substitution compacts en mémoire qui approchent précisément les différentes variables mécaniques dépendantes du temps peuvent être obtenus à des coûts modérés.L'utilisation de tels modèles exploitables en temps réel permet la conception d'outils d'aide à la décision destinés aux experts métiers dans le cadre d'études paramétriques et visent à améliorer la procédure de calibration des lois matériaux. / This thesis presents a novel non-intrusive methodology to construct surrogate models of parametric physical models.The proposed methodology enables to approximate in real-time, over the entire parameter space, multiple heterogeneous quantities of interest derived from physical models.The surrogate models are based on tensor train representations built during an intensive offline computational stage.The fundamental idea of the learning stage is to construct simultaneously all tensor approximations based on a reduced number of solutions of the physical model obtained on the fly.The parsimonious exploration of the parameter space coupled with the compact tensor train representation allows to alleviate the curse of dimensionality.The approach accommodates particularly well to models involving many parameters defined over large domains.The numerical results on nonlinear elasto-viscoplastic laws show that compact surrogate models in terms of memory storage that accurately predict multiple time dependent mechanical variables can be obtained at a low computational cost.The real-time response provided by the surrogate model for any parameter value allows the implementation of decision-making tools that are particularly interesting for experts in the context of parametric studies and aim at improving the procedure of calibration of material laws.

SF-1 e LRH-1 são fatores de transcrição que exercem um papel fundamental na produção de esteroides nas gônadas e na suprarrenal, além de estarem envolvidos no processo tumorigênico desses órgãos. Por outro lado, POD-1 apresenta menor expressão em carcinomas adrenocorticais, e parece regular Sf-1. Nesse trabalho foi analisado o papel de POD-1 na regulação de SF-1 e de LRH-1 em células de tumores adrenocorticais. A hiperexpressão de POD-1 resultou em redução da expressão SF-1/SF-1. Em contraste, houve um aumento da expressão gênica de LRH-1, devido à diminuição da expressão de SHP, um regulador negativo de LRH-1. Nas células transfectadas com siRNA-POD-1, os níveis de POD-1 foram reduzidos e de SF-1 aumentado, reforçando o mecanismo regulatório entre os fatores. No ChIP assay, POD-1 se ligou a sequência E-box do promotor de SF-1. Por outro lado, não foi caracterizado a ligação de POD-1 no promotor LRH-1, embora POD-1 tenha se ligado ao E-box do promotor SHP. Moreover, there are evidences that they have acted in tumorigenesis process in these organs. POD-1 is downregulated in adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) it seems to regulate Sf-1. In this work, it has been to analyse the role of POD-1 in SF-1 and LRH-1 regulation in adrenocortical tumor cells. The POD-1 overexpression has reduced SF-1/SF-1 expression. However, there was an increase of LRH-1 gene expression due to SHP expression decrease which is negative regulate of LRH-1. The POD-1 and SF-1 gene expression in transfected cells with siRNA-POD-1 has shown POD-1 decrease and SF-1 increase emphasizing a regulatory mechanism between POD-1 and SF-1. By ChIP assay it was shown that POD-1 binded in SF-1 promoter E-box sequence. It was not characterized that POD-1 binded in LRH-1 promoter, although POD-1 can bind in SHP promoter E-box sequence. The reduction of SF-1 expression by POD-1 has decreased the StAR expression, however, it was not enough to change tumor cell proliferation. In summary, POD-1 must have a wider role as regulator of fator transcription which controls tumorigenese process being a possible candidate as tumor supressor gene in adrenocortical cells.

Les systèmes de climatisation et de ventilation sont souvent composés de configurations type jets impactant, sur leur partie terminale. Ainsi, les flux d’air soufflés viennent impacter des obstacles munis de fentes, de différentes formes, afin d’améliorer le mélange. Les conditions de confinement et de soufflage provoquent parfois un inconfort au niveau acoustique. Les nuisances acoustiques générées sont dues à un phénomène de boucles de rétroaction se traduisant par l’apparition des sons auto-entretenus. La production du son par un écoulement fluide en champ libre ou en interaction avec une structure a fait l’objet de nombreuses études. Dans le cas d’un champ acoustique et pour un écoulement à faible nombre de Mach la résolution du corollaire énergétique de Howe permet d’évaluer la puissance acoustique générée ou absorbée par les interactions entre le champ acoustique et l’écoulement. Le calcul de cette puissance nécessite la connaissance de trois paramètres : la vorticité, la vitesse et la vitesse acoustique par des méthodes analytiques ou en utilisant des données expérimentales. Expérimentalement, la mesure du champ cinématique, pour en déduire la vorticité, nécessite une technique de mesure tridimensionnelle. Pour cela une plate-forme expérimentale, utilisant de la vélocimétrie Laser, a été développée, et équipée pour générer les écoulements d’un jet plan. Les champs cinématiques de ces écoulements ont été mesurés en utilisant la technique PIV, avec un dispositif de PIV stéréoscopique. Les champs cinématiques de trente plans parallèles ont été mesurés afin d’étudier les champs de vitesses correspondants. Deux méthodes de reconstruction ont été appliquées à ces plans : la POD et la moyenne de phase. Le volume est obtenu par une interpolation des plans reconstruits donnant accès aux trois composantes de la vitesse. Pour valider ces méthodes de reconstruction en 3D à faible coût, elles étaient comparées à des mesures expérimentales réalisées par le même dispositif expérimental, dans les mêmes conditions, par la PIV tomographique donnant accès aux champs cinématiques tridimensionnels. / Air conditioning and ventilation systems are often composed of jets having a configuration of an impinging jet, on their end part. Thus, the blown airflows impact slotted obstacles of different shapes to improve mixing. The conditions of confinement and blowing sometimes cause acoustic incompatibility. The acoustic noises generated are due to a phenomenon of feedback loops resulting of the appearance of self-sustained sounds. The production of sound by a free flow or in interaction with a structure has been the subject of many studies. In the case of an acoustic field and for a flow of low Mach number, Howe's energetic correlation is used to evaluate the acoustic power generated or absorbed by the interactions between the acoustic field and the flow. The calculation of this power requires the knowledge of three parameters : vorticity, velocity and acoustic velocity by analytical methods or by using experimental data. Experimentally, the measurement of the kinematic field, to deduce the vorticity, requires a three-dimensional measurement technique. For this purpose, an experimental platform, using laser velocimetry, has been developed and equipped to generate flows of a plane jet. The kinematic fields of these flows were measured using the PIV technique, with a stereoscopic PIV device. The kinematic fields of thirty parallel planes were measured to study the corresponding velocity fields. Two reconstruction methods have been applied to these plans : the POD and the phase average. The volume is obtained by an interpolation of the reconstructed planes giving access to the three components of the velocity. To validate these low-cost 3D reconstruction methods, they were compared to experimental measurements made by the same experimental setup, under the same conditions, by using the tomographic PIV giving access to the three-dimensional kinematic fields.

Tout d'abord tous les développements ont été valides sur une section de l'aile 2D et sur un modèle 3D simple et après l'approche POD a été applique= a une configuration industrielle (modèle de soufflerie aile-fuselage et modèle d' avions complète). / Although computational methods can provide good results, they usually do not agree exactly with the flight test data due to uncertainties in structural and aerodynamic computational models. An effective method is required for updating computational aeroelastic models using the flight test data along with Ground Vibration Test (GVT) data and wind tunnel data. Firstly all developments have been validated on a 2D wing section and on a simple 3D model and after the POD approach has been applied to an industrial configuration (wing-fuselage wind tunnel model and complete aircraft model).

Antonínkem and their current position in the village culture, which focused on documentation of all available music and song material recorded in the past in the village and accessible in the editions or the databases of relevant professional institutions. The subject of this thesis is the confrontation of the obtained material with the current state of folklore tradition in the village. Comparisons are based on materials from repeated field collections, including a questionnaire method for capturing citizens' attitudes to folklore, way and degree of preservation of traditions. The reader of this thesis is acquainted with the state of folklore in Blatnice in general. The following chapters on folklore year: inform on the preservation and dwindling of certain traditions as they currently appear, and which local folk clubs are involved in the preservation or restoration of folklore. The conclusion summarizes all the information along with the results of the survey and potential future use.

São abordados os dispositivos FACTS TCSC (Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor) e o SSSC (Static Synchronous Series Compensator). É realizada a representação e modelagem dos dispositivos FACTS no SEP inserindo no Modelo Sensibilidade de Potência. Para melhorar o desempenho do SEP no que se refere à estabilidade a pequenas perturbações, controladores suplementares são propostos para aumentar o desempenho dos dispositivos TCSC e SSSC, introduzindo o amortecimento necessário ao SEP. Adicionam-se os controladores suplementares POD no modelo modificado para os dispositivos TCSC e SSSC para verificar sua atuação. Para encontrar a melhor localização para instalação dos dispositivos é usado a teoria dos resíduos. Esta mesma teoria é usada também para o ajuste dos parâmetros dos controlares juntamente com outro ajuste feito através de Redes Neurais Artificiais (RNA), que é proposto como alternativa de comparação ao método dos resíduos. Simulações são efetuadas em um sistema teste simétrico para se verificar resultados e a eficácia do controlador POD (parâmetros ajustados pela RNA proposta), acoplados aos dispositivos FACTS, na manutenção da estabilidade a pequenas perturbações do SEP. TCSC e SSSC / This work presents studies referred to short term Electric Power System (EPS) perturbations, considering the actuation of FACTS devices for low frequency electromechanical oscillation damping. The devices considered are: FACTS TCSC (Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor) and the SSSC (Static Synchronous Series Compensator). It is representation and modeling FACTS devices in the EPS inserting in the Power Sensitivity Model. To improve the performance of the EPS considering the short term perturbations, additional controllers are proposed to increase the performance of the TCSC and SSSC devices, introducing the necessary damping to the EPS. The additional POD controller is added to the modified model for TCSC and SSSC devices to verify the acting. The residual theory is used to find the best location to install the devices. The same theory is used to adjust the parameters of the controllers and an adjustment with Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) is proposed as an alternative to the residual method. Simulations are effectuated for a symmetric test system to verify the efficiency of the POD controller (parameters adjusted by the ANN proposed), coupled with the FACTS devices, to maintain the stability considering the short term perturbations

Submitted diploma thesis shows the portrait of Josef Fišer (1878 {--} 1944), the headmaster of a grammar school, regional historian, chronicler, cultural worker and a member of a range of societies. Josef Fišer was born in Klenčí pod Čerchovem, but he spent the majority of his life in Moravské Budějovice, where he stood in the head of a newly established Czech high school. The aim of this work is the interpception of Josef Fišer{\crq}s life, historical work and the picture of his personality in the eyes of his contemporaries. This diploma thesis also describes Josef Fišer as a high school pedagogue. Josef Fišer is undisputedly important person for the region of Moravské Budějovice. Up to present days there hasn{\crq}nt been published any monograph about him. Therefore Josef Fišer{\crq}s personal works saved in the branch of the State district archive in Třebíč {--} in Moravské Budějovice {--} played the crucial role in the creation of this work. In the first line there were newspaper{\crq}s and periodical{\crq}s articles or studies published in the occasion of the Fišer{\crq}s death or birth jubilee. The whole text is divided into six chapters, which are subdivided into subchapters. Textual or picture enclosures are joined to the diploma thesis to enrich the whole text.
