Previous issue date: 2008-07-18 / This research aims to record in History how to matrimonial sacrament was present in
society of Recife at the end of the Eighteenth century, seeking to understand its
association with the daily practices. At the same time, we will examine how people of the parish was socially inserted in the space of cleric, accepting standards of the Church and adapting them according to their most immediate necessities. Within this context fall under the Offences Philippines and the Constitutions of the First Archbishopric of Bahia, the codes that govern civil and religious spheres of the colonial period. From these standards, we see its application in daily life of Recife between the years 1790 to 1800. Something that provides us to understand issues such as: the ages of the betrotheds, the customs about the schedule, days and months of the year in which the celebrations happened. Furthermore, the marriage records answer questions about the social insert that the marriage act could give men and women of Seven-hundredth. We identified the stay betrotheds within their origin group, confirming information already found in other locations, which, at least in the union legitimized by the church, few ones were as mixed couples, there being an obedience to the "principle of equality", advised by current manuals of the time of marriage and the society customs. Finally, marriage documentation becomes essential to understand how the population was distributed in the parish of St.
Anthony of Recife. This process of social construction is perceived when we associate the marriages to the population survey information, it allows us to find a miscegenated society, which lived in colonial Recife, and that marriage was an area, a point where people could achieve integration into society, from making family and solidarity bonds. By pulling the wires that interlaced everyday life and the stories of ordinary people who lived in a Catholic society, and we realize that they found in marriage a place that offered benefits that only married people enjoyed. Do mesmo modo, vamos analisar como a população da freguesia estava inserida socialmente no espaço eclesiástico, aceitando normas da Igreja e adaptando-as de acordo com suas necessidades mais
imediatas. Dentro deste contexto, inserem-se as Ordenações Filipinas e as Constituições Primeiras do Arcebispado da Bahia, códigos que regiam as esferas civis e eclesiásticas do período colonial. A partir destas normas, buscamos observar a sua aplicação no cotidiano do Recife entre os anos de 1790 – 1800. Algo que nos proporciona entender questões como: as idades dos nubentes, os costumes acerca dos horários, dias e meses do ano nos quais aconteciam as celebrações. Além disso, os registros de casamento respondem questionamentos feitos acerca da inserção social que o ato de casar poderia proporcionar aos homens e mulheres dos Setecentos. Identificamos uma permanência dos nubentes dentro de seu grupo de
origem, confirmando os dados já encontrados para outras localidades, de que ao menos na união legitimada pela Igreja, poucos foram os casais mistos, existindo uma obediência ao “principio de igualdade”, aconselhado pelos manuais de casamento da época e pelos costumes da sociedade. Por fim, a documentação matrimonial torna-se fundamental para entender como estava distribuída a população da freguesia de Santo Antônio do Recife. Esse processo de construção social é percebido quando associamos os casamentos aos dados dos levantamentos populacionais, possibilitando encontrarmos uma sociedade mestiça, que convivia no Recife colonial, e que teve no casamento um espaço, um ponto onde as pessoas poderiam conseguir inserção na sociedade, a partir da formação dos laços familiares e de solidariedade. Puxando os fios que entrelaçavam o cotidiano e as histórias de pessoas comuns, que viviam numa sociedade católica e, percebemos que encontraram no matrimônio um lugar que proporcionava vantagens
que só os casados usufruíam. Ao descortinarmos uma realidade que não podemos observar, nossa pesquisa preenche lacunas existentes na história do Recife no século XVIII, contribuindo de forma relevante para os estudos acerca da família e das relações sociais.

Previous issue date: 2009-08-31 / This paper discusses the process of cultural hybridization in Recife eighteenth century through the lives of three characters representing the local production baroque Manoel Ferreira Jácome, master mason, John of God and Sepúlveda, painter, and Luiz Alves, musician. It is intended, by examining their influences and creative process, understanding the key aspects related to the intrinsic and economic Recife eighteenth century, marked by the condition of commercial center and port of significant importance in the colonial Portuguese. Based on the concept of "everyday sociability" works by Baroque architects refer to such a complexity, and symbolic aesthetic pervaded by a very pragmatic character of social mobility of individuals, are inherent to their cultural universe mestizo and especially for business practices , patronage and mutual. The research aims to explain how, in the commercial context, urban and cosmopolitan eighteenth and deal with such conditions, the said officers, coming from the subordinate layer, had assumed "places of speech" in the highly stratified society of Recife. In these "places of enunciation," contributed to the spreading of the Baroque Captaincy northern Brazil and remained reasonably consistent with Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, who were together in Recife, the three main warehouses, administrative centers, political and cultural in Colonial Brazil.
So, as a work linked to the research line "regional culture" of PPGH-UFRPE, this work of the tensions and conflicts of the art scene of the eighteenth century the economic headquarters of the captaincy of Pernambuco2 to allow a better understanding of local baroque. / Este trabalho aborda o processo de hibridização cultural no Recife setecentista a partir da trajetória de três personagens representativos da produção barroca local: Manoel Ferreira Jácome, mestre-pedreiro; João de Deus e Sepúlveda, pintor; e Luiz Alves Pinto, músico. Pretende-se, através da análise de suas influências e processo criativo, compreender os aspectos determinantes e intrínsecos relacionados à conjuntura recifense do século XVIII, marcada pela condição de centro mercantil e portuário de significativa importância no mundo colonial português. A partir do conceito de “sociabilidade cotidiana” as obras barrocas de tais artífices remetem a uma complexidade, estética e simbólica permeada por um caráter bem pragmático de ascensão social destes indivíduos, por elementos inerentes ao seu universo cultural mestiço e, sobretudo, por práticas corporativas, clientelismo e mutualistas. A pesquisa visa expor como, no contexto mercantil, urbano e cosmopolita setecentista e face a essas condições, os citados oficiais, oriundos das camada subalternas, chegaram a assumir “lugares de fala” na sociedade extremamente estratificada do Recife. Nesses “lugares de enunciação”, contribuíram para a irradiação da cultura barroca nas Capitanias do Norte do Brasil e mantiveram certa sintonia com Salvador e Rio de Janeiro, que eram, juntamente com Recife, os três principais entrepostos, centros administrativos, políticos e culturais no Brasil Colonial. Assim, como um trabalho vinculado à linha de pesquisa “cultura regional” do PPGH-UFRPE, esta dissertação parte das tensões e embates do cenário artístico do século XVIII na sede econômica da capitania de Pernambuco1 para permitir uma melhor compreensão do barroco local.
