Zjišťování početního stavu populace městského holuba (Columba livia f.domestica) ve vybraných lokalitách a v letovém koridoru Radlického údolí v Praze / Census of the Feral Pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica) Population in the Selected Localities and Flying Corridor of the Radlické Valley in Prague

Štěpán, Jiří January 2014 (has links)
Census of the feral pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica) population in the selected localities and flying through the corridor of the Radlické valley in Prague. The diploma thesis is dealing with the research of the number of the pigeons (Columba livia f. domestica) flying through the corridor of the Radlické údolí, with the exploration of the next pigeons' flying routes, with inventorying of the number of pigeons in the localities Smíchovské nádraží and Na Knížecí and with dependece of the number of pigeons on the abiotical conditions, season, day time and the time of the spring seeding and harvest. The food ecology of pigeons was also investigated within the process of inventorying in the locality Na Knížecí. The final chapter is focused on coloring of the individuals in the different Prague localities. The research was realised from July 2012 to November 2013. The folowing methods of research were used: observation, marking with the wing tapes, modified linear method of addition. The results of the diploma thesis indicate that number of pigeons in the observed localities change especially in the time of seeding and harvest. Numerical fluctuations are not so extreme because the group of the resident pigeons always stays in the city. The spectrum of the food offered by local inhabitants doesn't...

Změny ve strukturách pražských domácností v období let 1991 - 2011 / Changes in structure of Prague's households during years 1991 - 2011

Školoudová, Markéta January 2017 (has links)
Since 1989, the Czech Republic has undergone many changes not only in politics and economics, but society has also undergone a major transformation. As a result of the second demographic transition, the number of complete family households has been decreasing and at the same time new forms of households such as singles or transitory urbanites have been emerging during the transformation period. The population has been going old. Since the end of socialism, together with urban processes such as suburbanization, gentrification, or international migration, Prague has undergone changes in the spatial differentiation of the city. The aim of this thesis is to find out changes of households deployment in the capital city Prague, in the period between 1991 and 2011 and reasons for these changes, as well. The first part of the thesis presents the theoretical background focused on the second demographic transition, processes that form today's city and theoretical concepts regarding residential mobility. The empirical part, based on data from the population census analyzes the change of individual types of households in Prague. According to the typology of the housing development in Prague, the evolution of the individual types of households in them is further interpreted, followed by an analysis of the...

Assessing the palliative care needs of elderly patients seen at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria

Omoyeni, Eunice Nkechi 19 February 2021 (has links)
Background Nigeria, with a population growth rate (2000-2005) of 2.5% and with 5% of the total population aged 60 years and above, has the potential for a rapid growth rate of the older population in coming years.1 The implication of this in a country with large population as reported by the National Population Census 2006, limited number of health care professionals and care homes, is difficulty in meeting the various needs of the elderly, hence, the importance of identifying the palliative care needs of the elderly. Aim The study was set out to assess the palliative care needs of and provision of care to elderly patients seen in the selected clinics of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. Objectives 1. To describe characteristics of elderly patients seen in the selected clinics. 2. To explore the current use of the hospital palliative care team in the care of geriatric patient. 3. To explore the current use of the hospital palliative care team in the care of geriatric patient. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted over a 3-month period using an interviewer administered questionnaire after full consent was given by participants. The questionnaire was a combination of the Africa Palliative Care Outcome Scale (APCA-POS), the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) and Hope Spiritual Assessment Tool. Demographic information regarding gender, age, nationality, abode and referral to the Care Centre was obtained. Scaled questions from selected tools were ticked with respect to physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs and expectations of palliative care. The validated data collection tools (APCA-POS, ESAS, HOPE) were used in the questionnaire. Ethical approval was obtained from the relevant organizations. Data was analysed using IBM SPSS statistics 21. Results 424 participants completed the questionnaire and most patients (330; 77.8%) were recruited from the geriatric wards with a 2:1 female to male ratio. Most participants fell in the 60 -69 year-old age group. The most common symptom was pain in 240 patients with moderate pain in single or multiple areas. A high percentage (45.8%) were moderately worried about their disease condition and only 66 out of 422 freely discussed this feeling with their family members. Other symptoms observed were nausea, vomiting, constipation and loss of appetite. Conclusion The study showed the palliative care needs of the elderly and calls for collaboration between the palliative care team and the physicians in the geriatric unit for better management of the needs of the elderly.

Evaluating Bat Roost Abundance: A Comparison of Drone-Acquired Thermal Imagery and Acoustic Estimates with Visual Observations

Jaffe, Karah 01 August 2022 (has links)
Roosts provide an opportunity to census philopatric populations of bats. Comparing the efficacy of traditional methods with novel methods can provide guidance on the use of new technologies in the field. This project aims to compare the count efficacy of external emergence methodologies, i.e., drone-acquired thermal imagery, acoustic estimates, and visual counts. Surveys were conducted ten nights at two emergence sites and synchronized to compare counts. Acoustic estimates could not be established as there was a weak prediction of the linear relationship between root-mean-square pressure and emergence count; therefore, this method was removed from the comparative analysis. A linear mixed-effects model and Bonferroni correction found a significant difference in visual and thermal methods at the eastern Tennessee site. Additionally, there was an overall median similarity of 92% from counts obtained from the compared methods. This study supports the validity of drone-acquired thermal imagery for external emergence counts.

Assessing the quality of demographic data on age and sex collected from census 2001, General Household surveys (2004-2007), Labour Force surveys (2005-2007) and Community survey 2007 in South Africa

Kamleu, Germaine January 2012 (has links)
Magister Philosophiae - MPhil / In many countries, an enumeration of all household members remains the most important source of population statistics. According to Statistics South Africa, two population censuses and quite a few household surveys have taken place across the country. The quality of data recorded varies according to the operation. Despite great improvement in data collection and analysis capacities, some of the demographic data provided have not been assessed in terms of quality. The aim of this study was to ascertain the accuracy of demographic data on age and sex collected and the coverage during the population census 2001, General Household Surveys (2004 and 2007), Labour Force Surveys (2005 and 2007) and Community survey 2007 in South Africa. Two methods were applied to assess the quality of data. First, the direct method consists of checking the content and coverage (errors during enumeration, errors of exploitation, concordance in questionnaire). Second, the indirect method lies in the calculation of some indexes, age ratios, sex ratios, graphing of population pyramids and sex ratios curves. The indexes are Whipple’s index, Myer’s index and the Combined index of United Nations. Therefore, the main variables of interest are age, sex, place of residence and ethnic groups. Differentials in the quality according to declaration on age by gender, by ethnic group, by place of residence have been explored. This study has identified some variations in different indexes between 2001 and 2007 and has also evaluated the ethnic, gender and regional differentials. Comparison between indexes of each instrument has been done to measure some variations over years. Also, time-space comparisons were conducted across indexes of different instruments. The quality of data on age was better at national level compared to provincial level. Therefore, based on the measurements and patterns observed in the census and surveys data, the study has made some recommendations on the need for an integrated approach to reduce the gap and improve the quality of declarations on age and sex.

Traduzindo um país: um estudo da tradução de marcadores culturais a partir de corpora paralelos de textos português/inglês sobre o censo demográfico brasileiro / Translating a country: a study of the translation of cultural markers in Portuguese/English parallel corpora from texts about the Brazilian population census

Pereira, Aline Milani Romeiro 03 December 2018 (has links)
This is a study of the translation into English of texts about the 2010 Population Census news releases and a questionnaire available from the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) website, with a focus on the translation of the words considered cultural markers, according to Auberts classification (1981, 2006) into ecological, ideological, social and material cultural domains. Having Corpus-Based Translation Studies (CTS) (BAKER, 1993, 1995, 1996; CAMARGO, 2005, 2007) and fundamentals of Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2000, 2004) as its theoretical framework, and based on results provided by the software WordSmith Tools, this research study presents an analysis of the translations of cultural markers according to the concept of translation modalities (AUBERT, 1998), and investigates the occurrence of features of translation (BAKER, 1996): explicitation, normalization and simplification, in the translated corpus. Furthermore, it provides comparisons made with additional corpora about the same topic, formed by texts originally written in English, available from the websites of two international agencies: Us Census Bureau and Statistics Canada. The results show that the social and ideological cultural domains are, respectively, the most and the least common in the translations. The words indígenas, found in the releases, and munícípio, in the questionnaire, had the highest keyness values among the cultural markers analyzed. As for translation modalities, the most recurrent ones in the texts were: omission, literal translation, modulation and transposition. Considering the reduced number of translation features in the questionnaire, that aspect was analyzed in examples taken from the releases, only. In those texts, explicitation and normalization were, respectively, the least and most commonly observed features. The comparison between the IBGE corpus and the ones from the aforementioned agencies revealed that three key-words were found repeated in the releases from the three institutes census, population and household(s) versus only one key-word in the case of the questionnaire person(s). The words used to translate the cultural markers in the texts produced by the IBGE were not found in the comparable corpora.

Rodiny a domácnosti ve sčítání lidu se zaměřením na metodologické aspekty dat / Families and households in census data with a focus on the methodological aspects of the data

Habartová, Pavlína January 2016 (has links)
Families and households in census data with a focus on the methodological aspects of the data Abstract Over the past few decades, significant changes in the family and household structure have been observed. Nevertheless, demographic behaviour does not have to be the only factor affecting these changes. Therefore, the thesis brings a comprehensive look at the family and household and focuses more on the methodological aspects of its structure and development evaluation. The first part of the thesis is rather a methodological work and introduces a detailed household methodology of one of the most important data source on families and households. Over the last half- century, the population and housing census has allowed a monitoring of household formation in the Czech Republic. Despite the efforts, new technologies, data collection and processing methods have required a change of the household concept in the last census. Since then, the time series have not been fully comparable. For the first time, household type derivation was based on automated process only, using a predefined algorithm. This algorithm, drafted by the author of the thesis, is also introduced in a separate chapter. The thesis also includes analytical chapters discussing the long-term development of the family and household structure...

Problematika postavení německého etnika v prvorepublikovém Československu na příkladu nejdeckého okresu / The issue of the German ethnic group status in inter-war Czechoslovakia shown in the Nejdek distric example

Andrš, Pavel January 2017 (has links)
The subject of this dissertation thesis is investigating the issue of the German ethnic group status in inter-war Czechoslovakia shown in the example of the Nejdek political district with the emphasis on the major and crucial aspects of social life - politics, economic and social issues while the assistance and support elements include: demographics, border issues, the presence of the Czech ethnic group, a preview of own (German) history and the development of churches and religion. The Nejdek political district is set within a framework of regional history with regard to the historical context of the development of Czechoslovakia, or even of the world in some cases. The regional history presented here in the form of a probe from the perspective of great historical events and partly through micro-history aim to build on the broad source base and capture the impacts and effects of national policies on shaping of the Nejdek region and its inhabitants. In some ways, when possible of course, research methods are applied. Overall, the work is to fill the so-called white gaps in the regional historiography, since the books or studies published so far have been focusing only on partial, closely regionally defined topics and only comprehensive work, which the author of this paper attempts, could therefore...
