Dr. Tomás Alves, de sua criação em 1918 até 2005 e sua importância para o desenvolvimento econômico, cultural e político do Distrito de Sousas. Através da análise, interpretação de fontes oficiais, imagéticas e relatos orais de alunos e professores egressos, reconstruímos a história da escola nas suas três fases. O uso de depoimentos, relatos de vida, da memória como fonte de pesquisa tem sido objeto de estudo de muitos pesquisadores na área da Educação. Analisamos com as ferramentas e técnicas da história oral articulada com a história cultural, às representações de alunos e professores egressos, enfatizando o período de 1975 a 2005, recorte priorizado pela pesquisa. A análise dos depoimentos da segunda fase revela que a escola teve um papel fundamental na trajetória de vida pessoal e profissional dos seus alunos, que tiveram participação ativa na vida do Distrito de Sousas. As representações construídas revelam uma clientela com um perfil diferenciado, da que frequentou a escola pós os anos 70. A Lei 5.692/71 implementada durante o regime militar, provocou a massificação do ensino sem qualidade, levando ao fracasso escolar dos grupos sociais, sem capital cultural. Concluímos o trabalho mostrando a importância de preservação dos arquivos escolares como fonte para a história da educação. / Abstract: This work deals with the history of EE. Dr. Tomás Alves, of its creation in 1918 to 2005 and its importance for economic development, cultural and political district of Sousas. Through the analysis, interpretation of official sources, well-imaginetic ones-and oral accounts of graduating students and teachers, we have reconstructed the history of the school in its three stages. The use of testimonials, stories of life, from memory, as a source of research has been the object of study of many researchers in the area of education. We analyze the tools and techniques of oral history combined with the cultural history, representations of graduating students and teachers, emphasizing the period between 1975 and 2005, clipping, prioritized by search. The analysis of testimonies of second phase reveals that the school had a key role in the achievement of personal and professional lives of its students, who had active participation in life of Sousas. Representations built show a clientele with a differentiated profile, who attended the school after the 1970s. The law 5,692/71 implemented during the military regime, provoked the massification of higher education without quality, leading to failure at school social groups without cultural capital.
