creates jobs and stimulates the economy (Lopez-Bonilla & Sanz-Altmira 2010;
O'Sullivan & Jackson 2010; Saayman & Rossow 2011; Visser 2005). Events are
an important motivation for tourists to travel. In this sense, there are three types
of events: business events, sport events and festivals (Getz 2007). Festivals and
festival tourism is a booming form of event tourism and the importance of
festivals are recognized in both national and international spheres (Yang, Gu &
Cen 2011). With this in mind, it is imperative that festival organisers have
adequate information pertaining to the demographics and service delivery
expectations of festival goers. The data for this investigation was collected
during the 2013 Bloemfontien Vryfees and the findings report on the
demographic composition of the festival goers and their service delivery
expectations.

The Boxall Profile (BP) aims at assessing the quality of adaptation of primary school pupils along with their particular difficulties of adaptation, in order to guide teacher interventions in classroom. At this time, the BP's psychometric proprieties have not been studied much. 169 boys and 23 girls ( N = 192) ranging from 6 to 13 years old (M = 9.24 years old, SD = 1.83) were assessed by their teacher using the French versions of the Boxall Profile, the Strenghts and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and the Teacher Report Form (TRF). Confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis (CFA/EFA) and area under receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) were all performed. The results support the fit of the first level of factorial structure and a good concurrent validity. These results suggest the effectiveness of BP in properly identifying pupils in a problematic situation. However, one has to be cautious when it comes to interpreting given scale's scores to guide the intervention.

Dissertation submitted in partial compliance with the requirements for the Master's Degree in Technology: Chiropractic, Durban University of Technology, 2009. / Modern surfing dates as far back as the 1960’s when the first amateur and
professional surfing competitions were held (1). Since these humble beginnings,
surfing has enjoyed a sustained growth over the last half a century, principally
through increased commercialization of surfing apparel and an increased positive
association with the lifestyle of surfers.
Objectives:
The aim of this study was to determine a retrospective cohort analysis of the
injury profile of internationally competitive surfers and provide information on
chronic, repetitive strain injuries suffered by them.
Therefore, for the purpose of this study, the following information was gathered in
order to create an injury profile:
• Demographics of internationally competitive surfers competing in the Mr.
Price Pro, Durban, South Africa,
• Prevalence of surfing injuries,
• Treatment received for injuries.
Methods:
This study was a retrospective, quantitative, epidemiological study (9), on the
Chiropractic Student Sports Association’s (CSSA) questionnaire in order to
produce a retrospective cohort analysis of the injury profile of internationally.
On entry into the Chiropractic treatment facility, the surfer is requested to
complete their portion of the CSSA questionnaire. Thereafter the senior intern
then takes a brief case history, elaborating on the information provided by the
surfer, followed by a standard clinical assessment related to the anatomical
region or list of differential diagnoses based on the history.

The study was limited to any surfer, male or female, who was competing on the
World Championship Tour or the World Qualifying Series and registered to
compete in the Mr. Price Pro.
Results:
Chronic injuries made up for 52.7% of surfing injuries, with the spine and
surrounding musculature being the most commonly affected regions. Factors
associated with injury were the repetitive nature of certain aspects of surfing and
the age of the surfer.
The findings in this study concurred with previous literature with the respect to
sustaining of an injury related to surfing. However, many of the findings in this
study differed to that of previous literature with respect to the common site of
injury. The spine was the most common site of injury, as opposed to lower
extremities as had been previously reported. The factors associated with injury
also differed somewhat from previous literature. Therefore, this warrants further
investigation with due consideration to the recommendations from this study.

Search for VH → leptons + b¯b with the ATLAS experiment at the LHCDebenedetti, Chiara January 2014 (has links)
The search for a Higgs boson decaying to a b¯b pair is one of the key analyses ongoing at the ATLAS experiment. Despite being the largest branching ratio decay for a Standard Model Higgs boson, a large dataset is necessary to perform this analysis because of the very large backgrounds affecting the measurement. To discriminate the electroweak H → b¯b signal from the large QCD backgrounds, the associated production of the Higgs with a W or a Z boson decaying leptonically is used. Different techniques have been proposed to enhance the signal over background ratio in the VH(b¯b) channel, from dedicated kinematic cuts, to a single large radius jet to identify the two collimated b’s in the Higgs high transverse momentum regime, to multivariate techniques. The high-pT approach, using a large radius jet to identify the b’s coming from the Higgs decay, has been tested against an analysis based on kinematic cuts for a dataset of 4.7 fb−1 luminosity at √s = 7 TeV, and compatible results were found for the same transverse momentum range. Using a kinematic cut based approach the VH(b¯b) signal search has been performed for the full LHC Run 1 dataset: 4.7 fb−1 at √s = 7 TeV and 20.7 fb−1 at √s = 8 TeV. Several backgrounds to this analysis, such as Wb¯b have not been measured in data yet, and an accurate study of the theoretical description has been performed, comparing the predictions of various Monte Carlo generators at different orders. The complexity of the analysis requires a profile likelihood fit with several categories and almost 200 parameters, taking into account all the systematics coming from experimental or modelling limitations, to extract the result. To validate the fit model, a test of the ability to extract the signal is performed on the resonant V Z(b¯b) background. A 4.8σ excess compatible with the Standard Model rate expectation has been measured, with a best fit value μVZ = 0.93+0.22−0.21. The full LHC Run1 dataset result for the VH(b¯b) process is a limit of (1.3)1.4 x SM (expected) observed, with a best fit value of 0.2±0.5(stat)±0.4(sys) for a Higgs boson of 125 GeV mass.

ITC/USA 2011 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Seventh Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 24-27, 2011 / Bally's Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper reports the analysis of L-band channel sounding experiments conducted along the flight line at Cairns Army Airfield, Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Propagation data from multiple antennas on a helicopter to multiple receiving antennas on the ground are used to compute power delay profiles. Analysis of the results reveals delay spreads of the multipath channels between 200 ns and 400 ns, with the longer delay spreads resulting when using a receive antenna with lower gain and higher sidelobe levels. The data also shows that on average, diversity signaling from three aircraft-mounted antennas can lead to gains in signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 13 dB, with the gain dependent on the multipath characteristics observed by the ground antenna.

The current research project examines the performance of a group of high functioning young adult males with autism spectrum disorders on standardized measures of neurocognitive functioning to determine whether distinct cognitive profiles of strengths and weaknesses emerge. Neuropsychological test data across various domains: general cognitive ability, visuospatial processing, verbal learning and memory, visual learning and memory, working memory, reasoning, cognitive flexibility, attention, receptive language, expressive language, social and emotional processing, and fine motor skills was examined. Data were analyzed using cluster analysis to assess for the presence and nature of unique clusters/subgroups based on neuropsychological test performance. Three unique clusters were derived from the analyses. This study highlights the well-documented heterogeneity across the spectrum of autism and suggests a method for parsing a heterogeneous sample of ASD subjects into smaller and more meaningful homogeneous groups using standardized neuropsychological assessments. / text

This includes how the students perceive the organization’s way of communicating with them, both in terms of the marketing and their reception at the facilities, and what they would like to be different regarding this in the future.</p><p>Method/Material: Together with literature studies, a qualitive method has been used and three focus group interviews with a total of 15 informants have been conducted. One group contained students that are customers of Studenthälsan, one group contained only students that use anther training facility, and a third group was a mixed group which combined both students training at Studentälsan and elsewhere.</p><p>Main Results: The main results from the focus group interviews show that theimage of Studenthälsan varies among the students. The studentsthat use or have used the facilities are generally slightly more positive about the organization. Generally, students feel that the organization is accessible and they like the student-dominated clientele. However, the the overall opinion about Studenthälsan’s image is quite vague and the marketing material is regarded dull and often too informational. The students are mobile and do not feel loyality toward the organization as such. CONSTRUCTING USER BEHAVIORAL PROFILES USING DATA-MINING-BASED APPROACHGao, Wei January 2005 (has links)
User profiling has wide applications such as personalization, intrusion detection, and online customer analysis in e-business environments. In the past decade, most of past research on user profiling focused on factual profile construction and applications. A few researchers studied application-oriented behavioral profiling problems. In light of the advantages of behavioral profiles over their factual counterparts and the importance of fundamental understanding of them, this dissertation probes into the theoretical foundation, modeling and data-mining-based heuristic techniques for constructing behavioral profiles.We first propose a research framework for behavioral profiling and define the fundamentals. We build an optimization model for describing and solving a general type of behavioral profile construction problem. The analysis of the optimization model's analytic properties found a strong connection between the feasible solution to the model and the independent dominating set in a graph derived from the input of the model. Based on this finding, we employed two solution searching approaches: brute-force and Genetic Algorithm, and performed numerical analysis on a synthetic small-sized profiling problem. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of Genetic Algorithm for producing approximate optimal solution to the CH optimization problem.We propose an innovative data-mining-based heuristic approach - hierarchical characteristic pattern mining to find solutions to the profile construction optimization problem. This approach builds behavioral profiles based on a new type of pattern - characteristic pattern and is appropriate for large-scale problems. Experiments using relatively large amounts of synthetic data were conducted to test the performance of this approach. The results show that the data-mining-based approach outperforms the Genetic Algorithm when the characteristic patterns exist. Finally, a particular user behavioral profile application - web user identification is introduced to present problems and solutions when applying the data-mining-based behavioral profile construction approach into a real-world profile application. The experiments performed on a real-world dataset produced positive results of our approach in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and interpretability.The main contributions of the dissertation are: (1) proposing a comprehensive profiling research framework; (2) building an optimization model for solving a general type of profile construction problem; and (3) developing an innovative data-mining based heuristic approach to building behavioral profiles.

Hierzu wurden Temperaturmeßfühler mit einfachem Strahlungsschutz entwickelt und zusammen mit Schalenanemometern an einem Meßmast befestigt. Ein Datenlogger speichert aller Minute die Meßwerte der Temperatur und der Windgeschwindigkeit aus 6 Meßhöhen. / For sound propagation measurements ofthe temperature and wind profiles are needed. Therefore thermometers were developed with simple radiation shield and mounted together with cupanemometers at a mast. A datalogger sampled minutely the values of temperature and windspeed in 6 levels.

An In Vitro Comparison of Cyclic Fatigue of Profile® Vortex™ and Endosequence™ Rotary Nickel-Titanium FilesAl-Foraih, Fawaz 07 April 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the number of rotations to fracture (cyclic fatigue) of the Profile® Vortex™ files (Dentsply Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK) compared to the EndoSequence™ files (Brasseler USA, Savannah, GA) using an in-vitro apparatus simulating a curved canal. Two hundred Profile® Vortex™ files of 25mm length were divided equally into ten groups, one for each of the Profile® Vortex™ files 20/0.04, 20/0.06, 25/0.04, 25/0.06, 30/0.04, 30/0.06, 35/0.04, 35/0.06, 40/0.04, and 40/0.06. Two hundred EndoSequence™ files of 25mm length were divided equally into ten groups of the same tip and taper sizes analogous to the Profile® Vortex™ file groups. Files were rotated at 500 rpm in a fixed groove in the metal block of the apparatus. The angle of deflection for all files was fixed at 33 degrees, determined using the Schneider method. The time from initiation of rotation to fracture was recorded and rotations to fracture were calculated. The data collected was analyzed using a multi-way ANOVA, followed by specific post-hoc contrasts comparing the two brands for each tip and taper combination. The results demonstrated that the Profile® Vortex™ files required significantly greater rotations to fracture than the EndoSequence™ (p < 0.001) in all tip sizes in both 0.04 and 0.06 tapers. Profile® Vortex™ files exhibited a greater resistance to cyclic fatigue than the EndoSequence™ files.
