This dissertation examines how information technology can help acquirers to improve the performance of their acquisition targets. An acquisition creates value when the acquirer can generate more returns from the acquired business than its former owner can, a condition we call the acquirer's parenting advantage. Then, we introduce two IT-related sources of parenting advantage. Acquirers with more extensive process digitization can provide richer digitized resource to serve their newly acquired businesses, and acquirers with more related process digitization can unlock more synergies between the newly acquired and existing business units. So, as we argue, digitization extensiveness enables a digitization-revitalization mechanism for acquisition value creation, and digitization relatedness enables an integration-synergy-creation mechanism. Both mechanisms can be carried out through digital accommodation activities after acquisitions. Furthermore, the digitization gap between acquirers and targets is a major contingency for digital accommodation, with the second mechanism functioning mostly when the target has already had advanced digitization achievements. We empirically validated these hypothesized relationships by tracking the IT and performance changes in 109 U.S. hospitals before and after they were acquired, using a 7 year study timeframe. / text

A presente pesquisa apresenta um estudo das Capacidades Digitais a fim de compreende-las e examiná-las melhor, e analisar o impacto dessas capacidades digitais na performance de negócios digitais. A literatura indica que as Capacidades Digitais são um alicerce fundamental a partir do qual os negócios digitais podem transformar a experiência do cliente, os processos operacionais e os modelos de negócios. Do estudo teórico dessas capacidades emergiram as seguintes questões de pesquisa: quais são as capacidades digitais relacionadas a performance de negócios digitais? E, qual o impacto das capacidades digitais na performance de negócios digitais? Para responder essas questões os objetivos gerais estabelecidos são: entender quais são as capacidades digitais relacionadas ao desempenho dos negócios digitais e medir o impacto dos recursos digitais no desempenho dos negócios digitais. A pesquisa é apresentada em quatro artigos que foram desenvolvidos em sequência de acordo com o processo da pesquisa científica para responder à questão de pesquisa. O primeiro é uma revisão sistemática de literatura que foi desenvolvida para entender as capacidades digitais. Esta pesquisa é apresentada no artigo 1. Na sequência, foram desenvolvidos estudos qualitativos, com entrevistas e estudos de caso apresentados nos artigos 2 e 3. O segundo artigo examina as capacidades digitais e seu papel no desempenho dos negócios digitais. O terceiro trabalho foi desenvolvido para entender a relação entre os ecossistemas digitais e o valor dos negócios digitais. Após isso, o modelo de pesquisa foi ajustado e uma pesquisa quantitativa foi realizada para medir o impacto das capacidades digitais no desempenho dos negócios digitais, que é apresentado no artigo 4. Por fim, foi possível entender que um negócio digital necessita desenvolver capacidades a fim de monitorar o ambiente, ser responsiva, ter processos digitais eficientes e deve ser capaz de pertencer a outros ecossistemas, com isso ela conseguirá melhorar sua performance. Além disso, os principais resultados indicam que a capacidade de resposta é um recurso crucial que causa um impacto significativo no desempenho dos negócios digitais. / This research presents a study of digital capabilities in order to better understand these capabilities and the impact of these digital capabilities on digital business performance. The literature indicates that digital capabilities is a critical foundation from which digital business can transform the customer experience, operational processes, and business models. From the theoretical study of these capabilities emerged the following research questions: what are the Digital Capabilities that are related to digital business performance? And, what is the impact of digital capabilities on digital business performance? To answer these questions, the following general objectives were elaborated: to understand what are the digital capabilities that are related to digital business performance, and to measure the impact of digital capabilities on digital business performance. Then research started and is presented in here in four articles that have been developed in sequence in order to answer the research question. So, the first step was a systematic review that was developed in order to understand the digital capabilities state of the art. This research is presented in article 1. In the sequence, qualitative studies were developed, with interviews and case studies presented in article 2 and 3. The second paper examines digital capabilities and their role in the digital business performance. We could better understand the digital capabilities, but it was noticed that ecosystem capability needed more studies as it is a new and fundamental theme for understanding the impact of digital capabilities on the performance of the digital business. So, the third paper was developed to understand the relationship between ecosystems and digital business value. Finally, the research model was adjusted, and a survey was carried out in order to measure the impact of digital capabilities on the performance of the digital business, which is presented in article 4. Finally, it was possible to understand that a digital business should develop digital capabilities in order to be capable of monitoring, being responsive, having efficient digital process and able to belong to other ecosystems what will lead to a improve the digital business performance. In addition, the primary results indicate that responsiveness is a crucial capability that makes a significant impact on digital business performance.

Muchas compañías en nuestro país están transformando sus procesos, digitalizando sus productos y servicios para el alcance de los clientes, desde cualquier lugar y sin la necesidad de acercarse presencialmente a una oficina o local, sin embargo, el principal medio para el acceso a dichos servicios es Internet, además, la contratación de este servicio genera una dependencia directa con los proveedores de Telecomunicaciones. Hoy en Perú mas del 80% de la población tiene acceso a Internet, sin embargo, la experiencia en el uso no necesariamente es la mejor, ya que, se presentan muchas incidencias e interrupciones en el servicio, por ello las compañías se ven obligadas a establecer estrategias superlativas con el objetivo de mantener sus servicios o productos digitales siempre disponibles; dicho esto, este proyecto tiene como objetivo diseñar una arquitectura de Internet que, elimine esa dependencia de los proveedores de Telecomunicaciones y, utilizar esta capacidad con el objetivo de darle mayor flexibilidad a la red de datos, potenciar los niveles de continuidad, reducir costos y los más importante mantener los servicios siempre disponibles. La estrategia se basa en la operación de la red de datos, a través, de un sistema autónomo y prefijos IP públicos independientes, además utilizar el protocolo BGP para establecer las sesiones con los proveedores y no depender de ellos directamente, es decir la gestión de la capa perimetral ahora depende directamente de nuestra organización objetivo y no de los proveedores. / Many companies in our country are transforming their processes, digitizing their products and services for the reach of customers, from anywhere and without the need to go to the office, however, the necessary service to access is Internet, also, the hiring of this service generates a direct dependence with the Telecommunications providers. Today in Peru more than 80% of the population has access to the Internet, however, the experience in use is not necessarily the best, because there are many incidents and interruptions in the service, therefore companies are forced to establish superlative strategies in order to keep your digital services or products always available; Having said that, this project aims to design an Internet architecture that eliminates that dependence on telecommunications providers and uses this capacity in order to give greater flexibility to the data network, enhance continuity levels, reduce costs and the most important to keep the services always available. La demanda de servicios logísticos en el Perú se encuentra en constante crecimiento, en junio del 2019 existían 753 empresas formales, de las cuales el 99.5% están clasificadas como pymes. Uno de los principales problemas de este tipo de empresas es que el 90% opera en promedio 10 meses y el resto logra sobrepasar dicho tiempo de operación. Asimismo, las metodologías y modelos existentes sobre transformación digital están orientados a organizaciones consolidas y con un grado de desarrollo cultural importante. Además, el tiempo de implementación tarda entre 3 y 4 años, lo cual es poco viable para la realidad de las pymes peruanas. Por ello, la presente investigación plantea diseñar un modelo de transformación digital que impulse a las empresas del sector logístico. Conforme a los estudios realizados, la transformación digital potencia la productividad de las empresas peruanas, ya que el 60% de las pymes que se digitalizan logran facturar el doble de las que no lo hacen. El principal propósito del presente modelo es incrementar la productividad de las organizaciones para poder extender su ciclo de vida, lo cual reducirá la tasa de desempleo en el país y a su vez, contribuirá a reducir la pobreza del mismo, y dicha situación conllevará a un incremento en el PBI. Para el desarrollo del modelo se emplearán herramientas de transformación digital, ya que la mayoría de las empresas están transformando sus modelos de negocio a través de dichas tecnologías, las cuales son factibles de implementar debido a los grandes avances tecnológicos. / The demand for logistics services in Peru is constantly growing, in June 2019 there were 753 formal companies, of which 99.5% are classified as SMEs. One of the main problems of this type of company is that 90% operate an average of 10 months and the rest manage to exceed said operating time. Likewise, the existing methodologies and models on digital transformation are aimed at consolidated organizations with a significant degree of cultural development. For this reason, this research proposes designing a digital transformation model that encourages companies in the logistics sector.
